  • what screen recorder r u using and is it free and do you know of any free ones just wondering

  • @DjEsemar At the time of this video I was using Snapz Pro X, which is good but not free. Now though I just use Quicktime because the latest version has screen recording built-in and it comes free with the Mac OS.

  • how can i record tfwo instruments at the same time

  • @TheRogueMonk You need some kind of audio interface such as a mixer that has more than one input/output. Then you give each instrument it's own track and set the track to the right input.

  • @murry537 i am not talking about the audio instruments but the fake ones... those u play with keyboard.

is this a problem with logic pro as well?

  • if i import a midi file into garageband why is the volume and tracks locked .. and i can't unlock them.. i can't manipulate them either...?

  • @TheRogueMonk you must be importing it as an audio track instead of an actual midi file.

  • why aren't my garageband recorded tracks lining up even though i played them in time with a metronome.

  • Those 2 bars that show if you "clipped" or not, what are the difference between those 2?

  • @viniciuswonderboy It's the left and right channel of a stereo recording.

  • how professional can garageband be compared to cubase or logic and protools?

  • @abochristo The other DAW programs will have some advanced features that GB doesn't have, but all of them can do bitrates that are higher than CD quality so you can get output that sounds just as good. Also GB can do VST plugins so it can do a lot of things the other apps can if you get the right plugin.

  • heya, do you know if you can autotune on garageband using the Iphone app?

  • Thank you so much that was killing me

  • Hi, can you help me please? i am new with Garageband and i was playing with everything, and now there is a beat i can not delete, i even don't have any tracks or anything but if i press play it will come up, do you know how can i delete that, please?

  • @zaidocram00 Thats the metronome. You can turn it off in one of the menus.

  • @zaidocram00 I got the same problem and just deleted my random bit of song cant help otherwise sorry

  • Thanks lmao but does anyone no if its not on my mac and i serchrmed all over it if i can buy grage band on i tunes?

  • i search garbage band tututorial this is what yt gave me XD

  • can you record you playing guitar to make a song on this? im totally dumb at this kind of stuff..

  • @MG21749 Yes.

  • can you import background music from itunes and then record over it?

  • You sound like dr Phil.... ^^

  • it helped thanks

  • I wanna make a duet with a friend of mine, but shes in arizona, is there a way to record her voice through gmail voice chat and put it on garage band with good quality?

  • @Allsoproductions I've never tried google voice, but I can almost garuntee you that doing that will be low quality. The best way would be to have her record her part in higher quality and then send you the file for you to sing with.

  • @murry537 mr. O do you think you can tell me if its possible to extract the vocals ONLY from a song with garage band? PLEASE tell me theres a way! D:

  • @Allsoproductions Like from an MP3 or something? No, not that I know of. There might be a plug-in you can buy to do that though.

  • Hey, good tutorial. I have question for you. Is there a way to copy a track WITH the volume adjustments you make to the original track. I'm trying to loop a track and it seems copying/pasting it is the only way to go. But I also want to duplicate the volume and pan changes I've made. This is kind of new to me, Macs are still kind of new to me. Thanks!

  • @maynardsgaylover Yes, look for "duplicate track" in the "track" menu.

  • Can u edit a song (cut out or reverse explicit language) using Garageband? Case in point the song on my page has a few that needs to be edited.

  • Does Garage band still look/work the same as this or has it changed sense 2007?

  • @SilverStuddedMusic Practically the same. Mostly new features rather than changing what's already there.

  • can you import songs into the garage band??

  • @yoshiD15 Yes. Drag and drop.

  • Can I plug in my guitar and record it in garage band?

  • @MegaParadox69 yes but you'll need an "audio interface" to get the sound into the machine. Just a guitar cable isn't enough.

  • @murry537 actually you don't need the audio interface, you can record in a voice track.

  • @TheMacTrickz I was talking about how to get a guitar plugged into your mac. Without an audio interface your only other option would be to put a microphone in front of your guitar amp. And unless your mic was USB, you'd STILL need an interface to get the sound in.

  • Can you help me INSERT bars into a song! Garageband 3. So frustrated!!!

  • On my mac, it won't let me demo or add anything with a tempo. What do i do???

  • Nice vid. QUESTION for anyone...after i finish doing my music project and adjust all my audio levels to a nice, even, loud sound...I export it as an mp3 file but the sound overall decreases...the mix is fine...but it isnt as loud as i overall want it to be. I tried adjusting the master volume, each track to a higher level...nothing works. thanks.

  • I like the little keyboard that pops up when you start a new project on garageband, but it seems like I always x it out by accident. Then, I can't get it back unless I start a new project. How do I get the little keyboard back?

  • @GoGrE3nGiRl hit command k while that track is highlighted.

  • @GoGrE3nGiRl when it closes go to window and press musical typing it will be up again

  • Thank you!!

  • yo dude, i accidently pressed something, and there is a yellow thing that ruines the whole song. It only sais: Drag to change the cyclone area. Jan you help me?

  • @JohnOverbye There is a button in the bottom middle of the screen that turns that on and off.

  • Very informative

  • is this really good to make each tracks indidiually and then put them together??

  • @olicool16 Yes, this is a great way to record each track individually and mix them together to produce a finished song. However it only works on a Mac computer.

  • How would i delete a whole project?

  • @OfficialHollow drag it to the trash can...

  • Thanks, very helpful !

  • By far...the best GB explanation I've seen yet. Thank you for all the info. U rock!

  • ok , i ve plugged my controller in to the mac , signal is coming through the g band but no sound ! i ve added software track it is registering but i cant hear

  • @wallacelux Is the track on mute? Or is another track solo-enabled?

  • hi , i used to use pro tools with an m box 2 pro sound card , now i wanna use garageband on my mac book pro, i how do i set up my sound card with my mac book for midi ? as i wanna record also with my bands instruments too , yeah so i wanna work out how to use the midi , thanx , (great tutorial by the way)

  • @wallacelux The easiest thing to do is get a usb midi controller.

  • garageband is dope. you need to have a mixer with protools

  • Does someone know how to remake a erased track or remake a mistaken move in Garage Band, as in every other program if you make a mistake or accidentally erase something with Ctrl Z you can "remake" any kind of information. How do I do it in Garage Band?

  • how fitting...I went searching for "garbage band" and got this.

  • Great tutorial, please record a little louder on subsequent videos.

  • can i change the tempo of individual tracks on garage band so that i can beatmatch them?

  • this is a good tutorial for beginners so they can learn the vocab also at the same time

  • i don't even own a mac, i just love to see tutorials and reviews to see MAC WORKING! ITS BEAUTIFUL

  • @OATTeam Just got mine yesterday. =)

  • does garage band cost money???

  • @vilok48 Garageband is free if you buy a new Mac. Otherwise you can buy it as part of the iLife suite, which costs $50.

  • boring but it helped

  • i have an idea for some music and i have most of it done, but the drums are out of sync closer to the end, is there any way other than using the metronome and starting again to get everything back in sync?

  • i had a question, I'm trying to change the input source, and I know how. But i plugged in a microphone into my mac and it doesn't show up in the input source. the only options are mono 1 and 2, and stereo 1/2. how can i record from my mic that i plugged in????

  • @Nintendowiz34 do you have a mixer or something? you usually can't plug a mic strait in and have it work. If it's a USB mic or something, then you just need to pic one of the mono ones.

A way to test if the mic is working on the system is to look at the mac system sound settings. There will be a bar that flickers as you make noise if it's working.

  • hey how do i change the speed of a track? and are there any synthetic beats? because i can't find any in garage band

  • @screwyouXD You can adjust the tempo in the little display at the bottom. Yes, Garageband has synthetic beats, and you can make your own.

  • @screwyouXD the synethetic beats are easy to find

  • Hi, ty for the tutorials! I have a problem with exporting my music to m4a, it exports ok, but there is a 2sec silents at the end of music. How do u remove it when exporting music.

  • @ddeeclausius At the timeline at the top there is a little triangle thing at the end of the song that you can drag around to indicate where it should stop when you export.

  • @murry537 THANK YOU!! I just tried it and of course it works! thank you....

  • what am doing is putting a beat on garage band and recording over it...it sounds sorta separate how do i get them to sound like one song

  • how do i make the ticking sound in gargeband stop when im recording a guitar riff?

  • @TheLazZzar the ticking is the metronome. You can turn it off in the control menu at the top of your screen.

  • hey does your video teach how to mash up songs?

  • thank you so much, looks like you help alot of people, keep going and good luck :)

  • how do you reduce latency??? Thats the biggest problem im having. I have a m-audio keyboard connected by usb. PLEASE HELP!! ANYONE!!

  • @telisakeys go into the garageband preferences and go to the audio/midi tab. There is a setting that says "optimize for" with a choice of "Maximum number of simulteneous tracks" and one for "minimum delay when playing instruments live". choose that last one. Also, sometimes there can be latency when you're not recording that actually goes away when you hit record.

  • This stuff is like witchcraft to me. I have no idea where to even begin.

  • lets say i have a song, and i split the track into different parts, such as intro, chorus etc... how do i rename each little part so it is shown above the selected part?? good tutorial btw

  • @4drumsticks You can name each track on the left side next to the icon. Double click on the words there to edit it.

  • Great video; very helpful... I only started to use and and it sure beats "Audio Swap"!

i love it now... so handy to put your very own non copyrighted music on videos XD

    Apple Mac rules!!!!!

  • hello when i make the first track say a guitar, i will make a second track then put vocals but why do i hear the guitar on the second track also even if i turn the first track all the way down so it doubles up and the second track and triples up on the third and so on please help.

  • are you wearing headphones?

  • umm, when i start recording in my garageband, some sort of a rhythmic beat starts to play! its really irritating and i'd like to know how to remove it!! please tell me! thanks

  • @urgyen96 That's the metronome. You can turn it off in one of the menus at the top.

  • @murry537 Thanks!!

  • @urgyen96 click <control<metronome

  • @urgyen96 yeah just push cmd and U to turn it off - it's the metronome

  • is it free??

  • @kavillaluz It comes free with new Macs.

  • does Garageband have a piano roll function like FL Studio? I hate coming up with riffs beyond my music playing capability :P and prefer figuring out the notes so the computer can play it for me perfectly :P

  • @Unlocalist Yes, Garageband has a piano roll. Both piano layout and music staff layout and you can drag and drop notes around and copy and paste, etc.

  • thanks dude =)

I'm using audacity, not too user friendly, but also, when I record something, it automatically cuts off a bit of the beginning so when I record a second track to mix it with, that one also gets automatically cut down when I hit "stop recording", and then the tracks (all of them) are of tempo and it's a pain to fix. Is this typical? Can garage band also automatically line up tracks to fit each other (like if something is slightly off beat)?

  • @Pokerus2719 I can't answer audacity questions, but Garageband has never done that to me. If you are using midi beats, or the metronome so that you are sure you're in time, then GB will snap-to the nearest beat and get you some auto-line up that way.

  • @murry537 yeah, I figured garageband would have that. I just need a mac XD

thanks again. hopefully garageband will be a huge time saver compared to audacity

  • ???

  • why when i try to load a beat on itunes wont work? anybody can help me with this im new to garage band. i brought pro-tools 8 m-powered and thats very difficult to use so im using Garage Band becuz it seems easier

  • @dukesara You're going to have to give more details. I have no idea what you might be doing wrong.

  • Thanks... you explain really well...

  • good

  • just to save him time from all the asking if there is a windows version there isn't sadly so the only way to run it on a pc is a hackintosh (which i don't recomend) or to buy a mac (whic i don't recomend if you don't have enough money) but there are good alternitives like mixcraft, just look em up and you could find free ones to ones up to 50 bucks.

  • how would you record a song from youtube, or a website from just recording headphone out/speaker out, with out doing anything special?

  • @Johnwells10 You'd be better off using software designed specifically to do that. Like Audio Hijack Pro.

  • @murry537 thanks for the info

  • is it possible to play the recording in slow motion?? if so, how?

  • @cokeisgood111 as far as I know, you can't unless you use a plug in.

  • @murry537 at the bottom you can switch between "tuner","time","measure", and "project". go to project, and change the tempo. it plays it slower but i dont think it changes the pitch

  • @dergster no, changing the tempo does not change the pitch. You can do that with the vocal transformer though.

  • @murry537 yeah thats what i said. are you trying to change the pitch?

  • @dergster That was someone else, dude.

  • its really quiet

  • Is garage band available for winders? Just kiddin...

  • is it possible to upload songs or mp3s to GarageBand and use the "solo" button to hear certain parts of the song, for example: just the bass or just the 2nd guitar?

  • @DrSlipstream No. You can't split out an mp3 like that once it's been compressed. You'd have to have the files for all the tracks that they made when they first recorded it.

  • @murry537 Oh alright that makes sense. btw why was my comment spam?

  • @DrSlipstream Dunno. Wasn't me.

  • how do you cut a recording? ive got this history thing i have to do, and i need to split my recording into two?

  • @hunterjumpergal96 Put the play head where you want the split to be and hit command+j or you can find "split" in the menu also.

  • @murry537 Thank you heaps

  • @muskypucker lol

  • if you recorded something can you extend it if you can how?

  • @Davidlarsson98 just make a new track and record some more.

  • how do you make the track longer, cus mine only goes up to like 1:30 sec

  • can you please tell me how to loop in logic...while you are making the beat where it continues to record

  • @1tapster I don't know anything about logic...If I did, this would probably be a logic video.

  • very thankful for your help! I was just looking for some turtorial and then i found this video. Even by only explaining the track buttons you covered some nice (and important) information (CPU Power by using the lock function of the track, etc...))!! Great!

  • I do NOT understand :|

  • @ANNAFLOOO You do not understand what?

  • Recently bought a New Windows 7 Laptop - The first thing I did with it is change the OS to a Mac as soon as I realised how crap windows 7 is.

  • how do u take off the freackin metronome while recording?? its sooo annoying!!

  • @rockallevil1324 Very easy. It's in the menu. I cover that in my video titled "MultiTrack recording with Garageband 09 Tutorial"

  • oh ok i got it, thank you!

  • @rockallevil1324 you just go to the control ab at the top and in the drop down menu just left click Metronome and it will go off.

  • I klear

  • What do I click to start? Piano, Electric Guitar, Voice Etc.?

  • @sarnky2 Anything you'd like. Try them all out and see what fits best for you.

  • Hi, i'm a band student in high school, and we use sheet music to play. I'd like to record the different parts so I know what it's supposed to sound like. The problem is, I can't get a mac. We just got a new windows 7 pc, because my parents don't want one. Right now I don't have the money to buy a mac, because I am saving for more important things. Is there a pc equivalent, or any other things I could use until i'm able to get a mac?

  • @mattnanokid Sony acid studio

  • How do i record the song and put it on youtube

  • You have to go to the share tab and then say export to disk. Then you can just upload it to youtube.

  • ugh... garage band is so hard! i cant get anything done on it. but now im happy ur making a tutorial :)

  • @narutokirby333 That's how I feel when I use something else!

  • Garageband is so simple and great :)

The problem is that it only works on Macs

  • I don't view that as a problem.

  • Me neither, macs are far superior

  • @SoupyGeorge Macs and pcs have their ups and downs. like Pcs have more software, but macs run smoother.

  • agreed. macs are better so just buy 1.

  • @murry537 i do

  • I figured it out. Just push "a" and it brings up a pan and volume edit selection to edit through-out the track.

  • Is there a "rubber band" tool that can fade parts of tracks out? I feel like there was one, but I just cant remember

  • No tool per se, but you can fade out parts. It's hard to explain, but I'm pretty sure I cover that in part 2.

  • k thanks... command+k lol got it xD

  • i have a dumb question.... after i've started making a song and i save it. When i go back and i want to work on it some more, i can't find my piano :( lol i can't like, play because i can't find out how to open the instrument... ugh

  • Not sure I understand the problem. if there isn't an instrument track, just make a new one. Is it the on-screen keyboard you are looking for? Cause you can open that with command+k

  • i just got a mac today just for recording... my question is if I get an 8 channel interface with a USB built in would it seperate the tracks on its own?

  • Yes. You have to manually set each track in Garageband to use the input channel that you want, it doesn't do that automatically or anything, but it works just fine. You can have a mic going to one track, a guitar going to another track and your drums going to 5 or 6 tracks, all at the same time.

  • thanks you for the help

  • @murry537 ok I have a 8 channel PA and I'm running rca's out of the pa and into the audio input. How do I select that input in garageband

  • RCA into the audio input won't work. You need some kind of "audio interface" to convert the signal to digital. Just google for mac audio interface and you'll find plenty of examples.

  • Theoretically it could work. Just select the "Built-in input" in Garageband...but you wont get all separate tracks considering the input is still using electricity instead of digital signals. To get separate tracks get either a A/D converter...or like murry537 said, a audio interface.

  • I also use a Behringer. You just need some kind of audio interface to convert the signal to digital unless your mixer already has a USB or Firewire out.

  • How would you just make back round music, without voices lol so confused XD

  • for garage band to pick up ur voice u need a microphone correct?

  • Yes, you need a microphone. Some computers have them built-in, though even if they do, they aren't usually very good ones.

  • what kind of microphone do you suggest using for vocals?

  • Whatever you have :)

  • When I connect my usb mic (CAD u37), my mac's volume goes up and doesnt stop. The icon of the volume gets in the middle and is like im turning up the volume forever. Garage band finds my mic but the noise doesnt stop. what can i do?

  • Have you looked at the sound settings in your system preferences when the mic is connected? You can adjust the volume there, as well as in garageband

  • I do. But the speaker that shows up in the screen when u increase it or decrease it doesnt stop. It's like the volume is increasing instantly. I noticed that if I set my output to my Generic Usb Audio Device as well, the clicking sound disappears but not the speaker in the screen. I dont know if it's my computer or the CAD u37 mic. I won't complain; the sound for the voice in Garageband is beautiful. Hopefully I'll fix the problem soon.

  • Sorry mate. I think I'd have to see it. I'm not sure I understand what's happening.

  • I have that How do you make your voice better
