Parachute or no parachute, it's easy to see that that "jump" was a crash almost from the moment the car left the end of the ramp. It almost immediately pitched up to 180 degrees against the relative wind, and that was that. Without pitch control, he wasn't going anywhere except down. And where did he plan to land once he got across the river, if indeed he made it?

Are you serious, this is not a streamlined fighter jet. The panels got ripped off from the speed and sudden change of direction in the air, reason why the car went up was purely because of the speed and poor aerodynamics. Watch some NASCAR crashes at Talladega or Daytona and you will see what speed and a bit of air getting underneath the car does, same can be said about many crashes like the Mercedes at Lemans etc.

It would be neat to try this again . Build the ramp up again and put everything back how it was . Then make a better car (or several) that didn't come apart in mid air . Use gyroscopes or stabilizer fins on the BACK of the car or what ever works to keep the thing trim once it leaves the ramp . I wonder how far it would get . It wasn't his car - Ken Carter (the "Mad Canadian") originally planned this jump, but the producers sidelined him and put Kenny Powers in the car without his knowledge. Carter was ropable when he was told.

Personally, if I were doing this jump, I would base my rocket car on a Dodge Charger Daytona or Plymouth Superbird, and have at least two or three so I could chuck a couple off the ramp without me on board, just to see what they'd do before I got in and gave it a go.
