  • Im making one at the moment, and I was wondering what string your using?

Im assuming its a guitar string, and If so, which one?

  • how did you go about getting the string onto the nail? I'm having a lot of trouble with doing so.

  • @shanephotos3 Hi Shane. I've attached strings several ways. I rarely do the same thing twice, but here are a few ways. Put a nail through the ball end of the string, stretch the string to the other naill and wrap the string tightly around the nail and the string itself. This all should be done tightly before placing a bottle or objects under the strings. Remember to do it tightly since the strings will stretch a bit. sound will come once you place the bottles under the strings to add tension.

  • I am inspired. I am so going to make one of these now...

  • Thanks!!

  • that is sooooo badass!

  • Crackers never get tired of ripping off Black folks.

  • In Brazil we cal it BERINCELLO.

  • Thats inspiring! What are you using as a slide? and whats the stick? Wheres the pickup sitting? Thanks again :)

  • To answer a few technical questions- there really aren't any rules

To building a diddley bow-I like deep low sounds so I use the thickest guitar string I can find "low e" and to make it sound even meaner I tune it down to a "d" this is just a rough guide. As for adding a pickup without soldering - you should be able to use the entire wiring harness and attach to your diddley bow. I like to hit the strings with anything nearby - wood dowels, pencils even sticks. Diddle strong my blues makers!

  • Wow!!! Seasick steve's son-I'm speechless thanks for the compliment.

    Wade

  • how do you tune it?

  • sasick steves long lost son. yee haww

  • This is awesome i am going to start making a diddly bow today :)!!!!

i am wanting to make a electric diddly bow i want to use the pickups out of my old squire strat guitar i don't have a soldering iron and i really want to make an electric:( do you know if i could do it without a soldering iron iron? anyway im going to make a diddly bow unpluged

thanks for the vid sounded really cool:)

  • MORE

  • No one sees the video in the right? The one with the baby sucking on a titty. I don't see the connection, but I see the thumbnail.

  • @SkollDoza ???

  • @wadester1969 scroll through the suggestions in the right :)) You'll get it then.

  • @SkollDoza Yeah I saw that...alc baby?

  • @SkollDoza hahahahahhahhahha!!!!!

  • @SkollDoza LOL I was thinking the same thing WTF.....

  • I'm still to poor to but the stuff to make one, and I lack the talent.

  • @redgreen1990 I build most of mine out of things being thrown away. Talent, well, I been playin' and practicing for over 20 years. It's just a great way to spend time. Hope you build and play one someday- you won't regret it! Check out seasick steve for more inspiration.

  • @redgreen1990 hey man actually people like you invented the diddley bow! so don't worry, it's not hard to get a piece of plank and two bottles, plus a string or even a wire :)

  • You sound great!

  • one of my favs....love watching this video....I picked up my stuff today to make one...I can't wait to try it out ! Love your beat babe.

  • `What gauge of string did you use for this one? I've got tons of bronze guitar strings recently, just wondering what you used!

  • @RevolutionarySamurai I like a heavy bronze - the thicker the better. But that's just me. It's a low "E" - It might even be tuned down closer to a "D". I use my ear to let me know what sounds best. thanks for the question- hope you build one if you have'nt yet.

  • @wadester1969

In this video, it was tuned to F#

  • @WoWintosh I built this diddley bow much like the originals- there are no tuners. You basically shove objects under each end of the attached string. The tighter the string is made the higher the pitch. I use my ear unitl I hear a pleasing pitch. Thank you for the comment.

  • @wadester1969 What did you use to hit the string? Just a metal rod?

  • lol awsome you just look like a bad ass on that lol nice beat have to try to make one my self looks fun :D

  • Shared it on Facebook! I love it! One video I enjoy listening to over and over! Great stuff! :)

  • is this electric or acoustic?

  • @RevolutionarySamurai - I have made homemade pickups in the past. I was in a hurry to make a video fo this one and used a simple piezo clip on mic. You can see the wire hanging off the bridge in the video. Thanks for the question.

  • @wadester1969 Awesome XD I'm gonna try a Diddley jack sometime then, lovin' the sound!

  • lol cheers for sharing please can u do a tutorial or send me the tabs

  • I like these diddley bows, but I really want to hear them unamplified.

  • This particular one sounds good-the glass bottle does resonate which gives it a unique sound.

  • All soundboxes resonate...

  • Glass and wood, when they resonate, have a different tone to me. These can be built fairly quickly and are fun to experiment with different materials.

  • Simply Incredible!

  • opening shot, we see a jack bottle with a bridge and a string, and we scroll up...

and i see the missing neck, start laughing, and say to myself "i bet this guy used the neck to make the slide..!"

and the picture scrolls up farther, and we see the neck is actually the NUT !!!! LMAO!!! friggin genious!!!!!

    -wipes tear from eye-

just awesome. keep the videos and homemade instruments coming!!!!

  • loli i made some thing simmeler bet wit two strings

  • There's Whiskey in those bottles? I only find empty ones when Old Otis is around.

  • Did Old Otis drink that wiskey?

  • Super Mr...WADE...

  • I generally either drill a small hole in the plank and hang it from a nail, or tie a piece of leather to the diddley bow and hang it- simple!

  • NIce Man!! If I could figure out how to hang it on my wall with the CigarBox you made I'd take it. Nice work!!

  • I have been busy with my work-contact me if interested.

    Wade

  • i want one!!
