@KenjiStar5 Yeah definately, not to get into genres too much but I think they're useful for finding similar bands - they can be considered classic (original) screamo or emo-violence (mix of emo and powerviolence) but yeah all punk genres. What seperates punk and metal isn't tuning or distortion its the scales (or lack of) used and metal technically comes from classical music if we're talking about that, this comes from a more atonal base

@12ozshark idk if you can say metal and punk have distinct songwriting differences. sometimes it's clear cut but other times it isn't. we know where the d-beat came from but metal uses that too now. the main difference is that they are two different cultures although they developed at roughly the same time. Punk started out with a stripped down, diy, lo-fi sort of ethic and lyrics about current issues and real life. Metal was always more about rock stardom, fantasy, death etc.

Metal always had an underground though that put a strong emphasis on DIY ethic. Likewise, punk always had bands that sang about fantasy topics like the Misfits. The division was always something that was rather silly to me, especially considering a lot of punk bands listened to metal and metal bands listened to punk.
