I saw this movie a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I thought Judy Davis was terrific as Judy Garland. I'm a huge Hugh Laurie fan & he was great in this but I do wonder how it came about that an auburn haired, blue-eyed Englishman came to play a black haired, brown eyed Italian-American. Hugh is 6'2, 1/2 while Minnelli was 5'9 too. lol
Can you upload the scene where Lorna Luft collapses from exhaustion when taking care of her mom too much, and the part where Judy performs at the palace theatre?
I really enjoyed this movie! I cried three times. But I think that they used Judy Davis too early in the movie. They should have used her around "A Star is Born". Because she looks too old to be Judy here. Like in the trolley scene or in The Pirate. They should have used Tammy Blanchard a bit longer.
Honestly, I don't think anyone can play judy garland, judy davis is probably the best actress for this part, but she still looks... strange as garland. It just doesn't seem right. Shes a wonderful actress though.
@cinerama62 Yea, I'm excited to see this even though I hear that Judy's voice won't be used? I mean they are basing it on "Get Happy" (Gerald Clarke's terrible and mostly fictional biography) the least they can do is use Judy's voice in the film. I think that this film might let people know about Judy which is good, like if they haven't heard of her.. but I wish it could be based on Gerold Frank's book, "Judy"..
@97sweeney10 I agree about the old part. Judy Davis in this role, has me constantly reminded that it's a poor imitation & not a believable job.I know it's impossible to have anyone play this role to actually think we're watching Judy Garland.Garland's persona's intense,Larger than life. You can see it from her TV show & interviews.I think Davis' portrayal was forced especially her breathing technique, Judy Garland never "grunted" the way Davis does. Her lipsyncing & facial movements look warped.
How did I miss this movie? Love Judy Garland, love Judy Davis and love Hugh Laurie in anything but House, (only because I hate doctors so much). Fred Astaire, the consumate perfectionist, once said that Judy Garland was one of the best artists he had ever worked with because she was so smart that she could pick up choreography almost immediately and execute it perfectly. Also said that she was so gifted that she could do comedy and tragedy equally well. RIP Judy.
I wish someone could post the part when Judy Davis sings (or lip sings) Somewhere Over the Rainbow in this TV miniseries. That was certainly a WOW performance!
Hugh Laurie is a brilliant actor, and he has done so many different roles. He's an actor who has much emotions hid inside his eyes and in his voice when he talks. I'm glad you upload this. So I can be fed with other works with him, other than House and A bit of Fry and Laurie...
ad yeah that was the only bit i wasn't so keen on!! it was only the trolley song-i think it was because she didn't look at all like her, like tammy did when she played dorothy in the wizard of oz!
however- all the liza minellis look so much like the Liza Minelli, especially the end one!
if this had been a feature, Judy Davis would have won the Oscar. But then, she's in good comapny with Ms Garland in the non-winners category, nobody can glorify their amazing talents.
i own this movie, and i have to say i was kind of rather disappointed. I absolutely adore Judy, but the movie mad Sid Luft look like the victim, when he was really the victimizer. I love JUDY DAVIS AND JUDY GARLAND...this movie had the potential to be remarkable.
Yes. I agree. And it was completely respectful on Lorna's part. However, I just feel that if they are going to make a movie about someone's life, they should display all of the details accurately.
ive finnaly seen the whole of this movie yay! i loved most of it...the only bits i didnt like was the bits where they recreated the numbers from garlands films...like the trolley song bit and the man that got away bit lol. but loved most of it!
I remember I was ten when this first came out! It was such a great movie but I wish I could see the whole thing. But I love Judy Garland! She is amazing and Judy Davis plays her so well!
I have this whole movie on dvd and I lve it. I did not know what a sad movie was until I watched this one. Judy Garland is amazing. I get so sad when I think about her life, but now she is in a a happier place called Heaven. God bless you Judy Garland.
lol...sure she threw away her bottle of pills when she got pregnant, but look at her light up a big old cigarette! lol. its sad how little we all knew back in the day...and one thing though...this womans voice is too soft as Judy.
I agree with RedTopBear!! Judy Davis as Judy Garland was Stellar!! Saw the whole movie. It's a bit hard to watch in some places, but it's only because Judy Davis did such a damn good job. The DVD is for sale. The Movie is called "Me and My Shadows", I believe.
Oh btw, I gotta put my 2 cents in! The cloths that Judy Davis wears through this movie look exactly like Judys actually costumes. Does anyone know if they're the real ones? And Hugh Lurrie is WAY too young and good looking to play Vincent. V.M was alot older than Judy.
"maybe privately she was sad. " Of cource she was sad! Her entire career went down the toliot, she was sick, and broke! Alot of people who where close to Judy always say, through all of her life, she never lost her sence of humar.
OMGOMG WHAT HAPPENS WHAT HAPPENS LOL?!?!? I didnt know that she was all.. akjdsklj like that.. WHATS THE NAME OF THIS MOVIE!?!? somebody message me please.. thanks.
I thought this was one of the most moving, accurate, and beautiful docudramas I've ever seen. This bio is like, the story is of Judy, but the actress is like more like a calm and sensable Liza than Judy. Attractive Hugh Laurie is an odd choice for Vincente Minnelli. Over and again, Judy showed she did not prefer handsome men. Notable exceptions: Tyrone Power and Glenn Ford.
Fwd, that's only the half of it. Yes, Judy preferred the company of gay men for friendship and often sex. But also, as Judy became more hip, stylized, and chic in a Kay Thompson way, one could surmise that concerning the type of men she attracted, this definitely had an impact.
