spinning at high cadence can help improve the response of fast twitch muscles. When she gets on the flats and rides at a more normal cadence she will have good reserve power and better lactate flush at both aerobic and anaerobic states. While particularly helpful for sprinters, high rpm spinning can be useful to any serious cyclist in training. I'd guess she mixes this up with high resistance training too. Most impressive.

bladder and prostate issues are somewhat common in bikers...they have a seat that is designed to reduce the risk of it, instead of being longer, its more or less a horizontal seat. just your glutes sit on it. however, i think most serious road cyclists arent willing to put the extra however many grams the seat adds to the bike.
I am a certified Spinning Instructor and I can say the instructors in this video are awful. Our firs priority is to watch the position an cadence of the people in our classes in order to correct bad habits and lesive behaviours. That should be always like that but the reality is so differtent. There are so many people teaching what they think spinning is and they are doing it WRONG. Spinning is not about COMPETITION, its about beeing a BETTER human being.
@mtnrider101 i have a friendhow can attack races when his cadence is at 140+ rpm already and smashes them at 50+ km/h and wins with ease you can win with cadence if you are practised. when training i can do spin ups of my ergobike on a fluid trainer up to 210 cadence. and because of high cadence i ride better and smother because if you dont you bounce in the saddle. ill get a video of a j/17 race for you. 60+ km/h in those restrictions on a slight rise.

You don't know how much she actually has on, and if she's working to increase her anarobic threshold this isn't necessarily bad. Only thing bad here is that she's pointing her toe.
I wouldn't if she wasn't such a twig. Also, as some other people have said it's not to bad if you are going that fast, but usually you want to be sprinting and have the resistance jacked up. It's good for intervals, though I seriously doubt that's what she is doing here.

I don't see what's wrong with this higher than usual cadence. People shouldn't forget that your power output is proportional to resistance as well as cadence; so while people around her are cycling at lower cadence and higher resistance, she might well be producing equal amount of power with her higher cadence but lower resistance. The only thing you could have a problem with here is her bouncing up and down the seat. All that does is waste energy.

bkermike your out to lunch, I teach spinning and race on the road. Trust me what she is doing not many people can do that for that long. I do 90% of my winter training on a spin bike and end up coming out in better shape than most of my teammates. If you bust your ass it doesn't matter if it is on a spin bike or a real bike you will develop fitness. I always emphasize high cadence climbing to my classes it is an awesome way to improve cardio.

I've been going to spinning classes and I think this is what has happened for me.
The instructor does not offer any suggestions on technique and there's no air-con in the room. After 10 mins I'm sweating buckets.
