  • lool kommt jemand aus berlin

  • It is tragic and pathetic to see how Americans spend most of their time talking about race, even after it has already caused incalculable damage. The Chinese are laughing at this.

  • Pianoplay123 - Bravo, Bravissimo! Your playing is divine, but my feeling is that it is not made for some of the ears on youtube. Bach and Handel didn't compose for man. They composed for a higher authority. You're playing and talent are for a higher authority as well. Don't bother wasting your time by responding to any of the jealous haters on youtube. Continue to dedicate your time to playing and to bringing pleasure to all those listening to you play.

  • naa nie mehr schuften bin so reich

  • ha ich bin erregt

  • lool hab was geiles entdeckt haha

  • You actually have a very natural touch and technique, quite nice. Great job.

  • you have good technique but you look stiff

  • Damn, that's a beautiful tone.

  • Today I showed this video to Moscow Conservatiore professors (Russia's leading pedagogues). Now -- I'll make their badmouthing milder -- and a portion of "shoulds".

    1. 2 initial chords should be louder and 3 times deeper and longer.

    2. At 00:14 the finger should be round and shart; the wrist bent; produce ff.

    3. At 00:40 D-C#-H-C# must be ve-ery slow. The bass H-C#-D-E must be same slow (imagine a sorrowing demon).

    4. The 1:16-1:17 left hand must be sharper and crescendo.

    ...

    Sorry, 500 sym max.

  • @f1f1s and you think that they know how this has to be played?

    never

everyone can play it the way he wants

  • @sensejnaruto

Sorry to contravene you, but there is a music culture that has evolved for decades. Why do we consider some recordings genial and others just frivolous and cheap? It DOES depend on how one plays. If he wants it fast but messy, for sure he'll be criticized by the majority. But if he studies world's most reputable recordings and thoroughly obeys all the composer's marks, it will be a top-class performance. Relying on "the way one wants" must be within the frames of common sense.

  • @f1f1s well i have to agree with u but it's music and in my opinion everyone can cange the music how he likes it.

i dont think that there is a perfect way how to play

  • @sensejnaruto Well, technically the perfect way to play this piece was to play it the way Chopin intended it to sound.

Butt!(hehe) I agree with the freedom to interpret, but not when it's obviously overdone..... I have a friend that tends to do that lol. >_<

  • @f1f1s you cannot disagree that a lot of horowitz's recordings are 'fast and messy' at least in his later life, and yet he is lauded as one of the greatest of the last centuary. granted he was very old in his dvd 'last romantic.'my point is its all opinion. music is not a fact, it is opinion, everyone prefers different things. its not about being right or wrong.

  • Hey, this is really great!

  • I prefer your interpretation from the one of Yundi Li since it contains more expression, Yundi Li is too much eliptic and he lost sentences and melody since playing too technic and fast obviously

Thanks to your record anyway I discover that piece and begin to study it even if I do not have at all your level - help me to understand at least the importance of the thumb

Bravo encore pour cette magnifique interpretation

    Phil

  • ...if I feel more ambitious than a Bud,...but more like Michelob...and had some Miles at his chilled going...this fits right in...never figured Chopin's first scherzo...which means "a joke" anyway...would work as a soulfull jazz piece damn near...Mr.Uploader: blow some dough on external microphoning...your pianist here is good enough to justify the investment...

  • very nice interpretation

  • híhí_jémánd_lûst_mìt_mìá_zû_textëñ_bîñ_so_êinsãm

  • This is a very unique interpretation. I like the dynamics and the unique feelings.

  • i love this. bravo.

  • que envidia!!!

  • wow , wow , wow , wow , wow , wow , wow ....

  • I find funny the hip-hop clothes in a very skilled classical pianist

  • Very crisp, very nice.

  • he's the worst piano player on youtube..

  • @v4liumfrance pédé

  • najo fühl mich irgendwie allein :( will einer mit mir texten hab auch fotos und so

  • Another masterfully played! Your performance reaches into my soul I know it has reached yours.

  • Nice!

  • also echt wann finde ich endlich meinen traumtypen

  • @sjyoo96 hey I am almost 14 as well and I was going to play fantasie improptus because me friend is learning it but my piano teacher proposed this and I really like. I want to learn this piece. Oh by the way you've got a great vocabulary for a teen and I have to totaly agree with you. You know my teachers teacher teacher teacher teacher teacher was Chopin or something like that I don't know how many teachers away though and I live in Montreal! Anyway like your comment.

  • @thesloc shut up u racist bastard troll

  • @thesloc what does thesloc mean?

  • wow, good sir, wow!

  • I've never heard such interpretation. it attracted me.

maybe it is not the interpretation which Chopin required, however.

  • I don't know anything about Yundi Li or no sound (maybe your speakers are off? :P) or "interpretations" or whatever, but I thought it sounded nice.

  • Même si ce n'est pas dans Chopin que je vous préfère, Monsieur Cambry, vous avez un remarquable sens du phrasé et une très belle expression de votre musicalité. Merci.

  • Lol you play everything so casualy. Like it looks like your not even trying.

  • Yeah this is pretty good, comment and rate back please!

  • Certain parts sound a little muddled, but for the most part that was pretty good.

  • haha you got blade there mate ;)

    amazingly played!

  • "Simon Trepceski"-- WAAAooooooo

  • dude you are freaking awesome. keep up the good work.

  • you're pretty stupid if you think that anyone that plays this piece hasn't heard yundi li or many others play the same piece, my interpretation builds intensity from beginning to end.. as far as "no sound" coming out of the piano, I think there will always be a difference between professional sound recording equipment and a home video recording camera

  • @PianoPlaya123 This is a great performance. There will always be idiots like blade here on YT (and elsewhere). Don't waste your breath on him. Thanks for sharing.

    Bravo !

  • @PianoPlaya123 Good job responding to that inconsiderate fool

  • @PianoPlaya123 You play brilliantly. You clearly have exceptional finger control, and I think there's plenty of feeling, but you err on the side of delicacy rather than hammering the shit out of the piano. Chopin wrote so delicately, you do it a great service by playing it like this.

  • @bertiethetoupee4

I don't think he lacks delicacy at all..! In fact he has a very soft sound/touch.

  • @blade42251 what are you talking about? Yundi Li does'nt set the standard, He is not (and cannot) doing anything new. The standard has already been laid down by a myriad of great performers of the earlier generations. Not to take anything away from Yundi - I think he's great. This performance stands on its own merit and needs no further validation.

I think Cambry's mastery of the repetoire is exemplary - a genuine talent.

  • @blade42251 kinda hard to judge off a condenser mic. Anyway, the interpretations of Chopin nowadays are way too forceful...it's like Prokofiev, lends itself to violence but requires a touch that can bend and not break...I think you're on the wrong track entirely. Aside from the rubato that everyone seems to force on this piece and a few mistakes, this is a great one-off of this scherzo.

  • sweet! beautiful talent

  • I must admit, I wasn't expecting such a good performance, I have heard quite a few recordings of this, and even Horowitz's I didn't like the interpretation, however this, I must say was very good, enjoyed it thoroughly. bravo

  • hi cambry,

i'm also pianist and i'm amazed at so much talent. You are very good.: a beautiful interpretation!

  • This sounds like the exact same version as I have on my iPod :o Amazing copy of a brilliant tune! Skills

  • This rocks! Best version I've heard.

  • Dear Cambry, It's cool that you memorized this piece. Not trying to be one of those really really mean critics, not at all. But I think you'd benefit from/enjoy a Martha Argerich recording of this.

  • A very sweet and delicate interpretation --------Be proud of your ability.

  • All I can say is: WOW!!!!!

  • All i can say is:HE DONT HAVE A GOOD SOUND!!!!

chopin needed to be play with personality.

    not bad performance.

    you should listen to pletnev!

  • I agree, WOW!!! is the only word to say. That's partly because I am not used to seeing black people play classical music this good.....

  • HEYYY I'M BLACK AND A ASPIRING CLASSICAL MUSICIAN TOO!! There's more than you think...

  • Well, good luck to you. The only black classical artists I've known before are all vocalists: sopranos, mezzos, bases, tenors. Black classical instrumentalists are very rare, especially soloists.

  • Well thanks! you're right though... It's not very common among african americans =( Quite unfortunate.

  • Yes, it is unfortunate. Which means you should work hard to debunk the negative stereotypes about black people.

  • As an Afro-American myself, I can only do my part. African Americans have to do better collectively to debunk negative stereotypes... I will work very hard though... I'm learning this scherzo myself as well as a couple Chopin Etudes with my teacher, and it's going quite well actually. Perhaps i shall myself begin posting vids of my playing, because currently i have none...

  • Correction: I'm not learning this scherzo, but No.2.

  • Wow, your playing is inspiring! I actually want to practice the piano more often now that I've seen this video! Thank you!

  • Gorgeous..~!!...it rocks.~!!!

Full of your own personalities ......

    accurate.........great musicality ......

    For amateur pianist....YES..THAT'S IT....that's already 100%....

However...for concert pianist.....more vids...=)..and...need more accuracy in the accents and phrasing...

Just a little thing, the chord before the reli last chromatic scales should be an accent...Scherzo..~!............(coz i just love this last bit..so I am a bit mean......sry Cambry)

    Support..~!!!....great video ..~!!!

  • Also--did you use the mics in the hall or did you bring in your own equipment? Nonetheless, excellent audio.

  • I finally had a chance to listen to your performance closely. I've heard a lot of interpretations and yours reminds me of Horowitz. Curious-do you listen to him at all?

Anyway, great performance. thanks for posting this!

  • ahhh chopin....thanks

  • you're an amazin piaonist. Is it your occupation or just something like a hobby?

but may I say: don't die at piano parts xD

  • I always imagine madness being the inspiration for this piece.

  • Most musical than any Chopin playing I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!

It's a great experience to hear to you.

May be you are the Maria Callas of/among the pianists.

  • Great, that's amazing! You are a really really good pianist! And what a beautiful sound.. Your ease is fantastic!

  • this is beyond amazing! i'm not a "piano expert" like some of these commenters are. i don't my chopin from my debussy. nothing on notes. i play, and i know a good pianist when i hear one. and you are just amazing!

  • GOOD GRIEF !

  • no, its just a higher order use of irony, smartass

  • Comment removed

  • WOW. EXTREMELY NICE PERFORMANCE!

  • J'adoooooore la partie centrale! Bravo

  • really really good !!!

i guess you need a little bit more stability and so power in your fingers but it's just technique things..

You have the main thing : a true feeling, and musical personnality.

Work more you could be pro

  • Dude i think he already is a pro! How many people can you see do that?

  • Very nice...Bravo.!!! Bravo....You play chopin...like chopin....not like some pianists that play this scherzo like gerswin!!! Nice job!

  • THIS, however, shows astonishing progress. The playing is clean, elegantly phrased for the most part and well-controlled throughout ---a difficult task. Even Horowitz often sounded as though he were riding a bucking bronco when he performed this beast.

  • Much, MUCH better than I expected considering some of the earlier videos posted of this pianist where he attempted but failed to give a solid performance some of the Chopin Etudes. I do remember his playing of the D-Major P&F from Book One of the WTC that showed real promise, but the Chopin etudes were less than mediocre.

  • Awesome, Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry for saying that but a black man in a TShirt like this sitting in front of a piano playing classic is the coolest thing ive ever seen :D

  • this vid is viewed so often because it is the first in the "related vid" section of multiple famous clips such as argerich scherzo and pogorelich scherzo

  • this is very smooth and connected and well played

  • nice middle part

  • 另一種蕭邦的詮釋~

  • awesome awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think the best version in the world is the krzystof jablonski

  • I think it lacks emotional depth and flair...the coherence of the piece is marred by a bad placement of dynamics and rubato. - this is my opinion.\, though - i realize musical taste is subjective.

  • This is just so cool!!

  • The only thing more crazy than being able to play this is writing it...

  • yes i found that there could have been better attack at times

  • i guess so but thats his own interpretation ...

not everyone can play like yundi

  • Wow, this was fantastic. I'm nowhere near this level of musical ability, so its really inspiring to see someone playing these really impressive pieces with such skill.

I don't understand how *anyone* could make such moronic, insensitive comments to this video, though... *any* piece of music is all about your own interpretation of how the parts should be played, so all these comments about "improper phrasing" and "lack of technique" just drive me up the wall.

This was brilliant, man; keep it up.

  • "*any* piece of music is all about your own interpretation of how the parts should be played, so all these comments about "improper phrasing" and "lack of technique" just drive me up the wall."

I would be the happiest guy alive if this were true, but the cold reality is that it's not.

But eventually you have to face the truth.

  • 1. 彈這樣的大曲子, 穿著太隨便!

    2. 音樂的張力不夠, lacking fire and excitment

  • 根本抓不够感觉。张力绝对不够。建不起高潮。

  • really VERY nice! you're really an excellent pianist! I'm playing it too, but there's no comparison :-) I'm trying to speed up my performance...now I' about at 92 M.M. ....it's hard but I hope well :-)

  • Hard Bed

  • I've seen you develop considerably watching your videos over the past few years on youtube. Keep up the good work.

  • i think that's the difference between "MUSICIANS and guys who play piano". great names has nothing to do with that. today mostly the great names are the guys who just play piano

  • i love your interpretation- it truly is the most original ive heard- bravo!

  • lol..i'm sure that's true.

i can imagine chopin playing it in 10 seconds...that's kinda funny.

  • yeah, right, and i play rach3 blindfolded without knowing the piece and with the sheets infront of me with the youtube orchestra.. ¬¬'

  • Thats unrealistic!^^

That means about 25 notes per second!:D

  • A LEGEND IN HIS OWN MIND!!!!!!!

  • this is very beautiful playing. much more interesting and musical then some of the "big names" of today. but if i would mention those names, i would be marked as spam as always ;)

  • this is a very good recording of the first scherzo!!!

  • Are u serious??? what contemporary music are u referring to that is more challenging or more soulful than this? blues is easy yeah jazz is awesome but don't u understand that this isn't just a scale or an arpeggio, this is a composition a musical poem... I'M GETTING REALLY TIRED OF MODERN DAY ELITISTS WHO LOOK DOWN ON CLASSICAL MUSIC! these composers were absolute masters, not only technically speaking, but artistically speaking!!!! clearly you have no idea....

  • Word.

  • Word.

  • YOU ARE PATHETIC

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    ohhhhh lord..............

  • So you're derogatory AND obvs not a learned musician, cuz this is where it is right here. I'd LOVE to see you sit down and do a good first scherzo. Come on, let's see it if it's just octaves and arpeggios!!!

  • Haha.

    Only one word,

    stupid

  • ip7778, I'd think twice before referring to a piece composed by one of humankind's greatest musical geniuses as being a "monkey piece".

  • I was realy a good sound recording for that great pianist. What it's name?

  • excellent interprete de Frederic Chopin

  • good job! i love chopin. i really want to start an etude and scherzo.

  • what a totally stupid comment!

  • my comment referred to ip7778's comment

  • this is simply amazing! wow...

  • FANTASTIC. thats all i have to say.

  • Great, great, great performer.

  • What a TALENT and what a sound... GREAT!!

    5 stars + 1 that isn't here to give.

I added &fmt=18 to the url and got Stereo.

Need an mp4 codec installed though. Look "klcodec417s.exe" up on the web and install it. The difference is amazing.

  • You are simply brilliant!!!

  • u are fantastic. im a pianist, too. you have wonderful sound and exceptional hearing.

  • He's a very very good pianist, has perfect techniques...maybe it's cuz he had 2h for 10 pieces, maybe not, but he rushes too much...there are parts which sound thoughsands of miles away from what they're supposed to sound like...only cuz they're rushed...Sorry, I like this, but I do not feel it...

  • you're probably right, except for "perfect technique" which I do not have, thanks for your input on this

  • Well, no one's perfect, but I respect your skills. I have been playing the piano for 17 years now (since I was 4) and I still haven't become that good. I hope someday I'll be as good as you :)

  • Fantàstic, moltes felicitats

  • You are an amazing pianist! Bravo!!!

  • Bravo!!!

  • wooooooooooooooww he is cooolll

  • AMAZING kurwa mac!!!!! COOOOLLL

  • excellent!

  • Just broke my prejudice against black people that dress the same

  • Or white dudes, for that matter.

It's amusing to see a dude in a basketball shirt playing piano so well :p. Just a gentle reminder that appearance/clothes are a ridiculous way of categorising people.

Of note is a Japanese dude who looks like a bodybuilder. Has an extremely gentle touch at the keys when needed. On youtube somewhere, check it out.

  • bravo

  • Heya, very good ! I am going to learn this song ! But, maybe not this year...indeed.

  • If you refer to it as a song, there's a good chance you won't be able to play it.

  • as opposed to referring to it as a technical exercise?(that's a question)

  • No, what he means is that it's not a song because it's not sung, but rather played. It is a scherzo (in the sense of a piano miniature, not a symphonic movement). The comment suggested that someone who is an advanced enough musician to attempt to play virtuoso Chopin works probably would know this :-)

  • Very good as all your videos.

  • amazing.

  • Excellent playing!!

If you put this: &fmt=18 at the end of the url the quality is better, specially the sound!

  • goshhhh you're good. and lookin' un-nerdy too =o. keep it up , man. really great technique and musicality, and other additional generic musicianship compliments. =]

  • Man I am really jealous of your skills. You play so many compositions from various composers and almost everything you play in a fantastic way. Keep it up!

  • dude, you rock! i don't care what you wear, just don't play naked.. lol

  • Excellent! SO ORIGINAL!!!!!!! God bless

  • Get rid of the "gangsta" outfit! You sound great on the piano, you should be dressed as well as you sound! If you sound like a king you should look like one! Best of luck and I hope for your sake you take my advice!!

  • Very true. I may only be 15, but 10 years of experience can teach you a whole lot about the classical music...etiquette? Like what hippitybippitybop said, you should dress like a professional if you are a professional.

And you sir, oh my. You sound amazing. Your accuracy is on point for the most part. The only thing I would suggest though is that I'd like to see more emotion while you're playing, but that's just me. Overall, I can't wait to hear about you in the future!

  • Both of these comments seem to be coming from people lacking age and experience. Maybe you all should ask yourselves if this is a live performance or if this is a video made for YouTube. Read the video description. I wouldn't have performed in other countries and many places in the U.S.A. if I didn't continue to wear my best outfits for live performance... When you grow up you'll learn that YouTube is for penguin outfit wearing people and normal people as well.

  • This is YouTube, not Carnegie hall... people can wear whatever the hell they want in their videos for the internet.

  • Excuse me, sir. Look. I wasn't trying to start any conflicts, especially through the internet. I was just making a suggestion that maybe a musician's appearance can add a little more something to his performance, live or not. Also, I don't think you needed to make the statement about how you thought I lacked experience. I believe that I have a good amount of experience if I was able to become fairly popular around the state of Virginia by age 13. So please don't judge someone based on their age.

  • Don't bring your ignorance to my channel. I did this video at my university along with 9 other videos. Do you wear your penguin outfit to school every day kid?

  • Bravo!!!

  • Ah, jealousy. What would we do without you?
