Come on windows, do something cutting edge for once. You don't even have multiple desktops, even free linux has a desktop switcher... did I mention it's FREE?
@BoogieWithStew you mean going to "start menu-programs-office-ecxel"..thats a bit too much clicking and mouse hovering..i just started using the search bar,,i find it more convenient for starting things like..dxdiag,services.msc..msconfig..usually u have to go to run to open these programs,,but my simply typing services in the search and enter the program opens.
everyone talks bout appearance and interface colours and effects. I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE F****ING RESOURCES MANAGEMENT. im starting to fear this "Vista selling strategy" again. can this OS rip-off XP yes or not.
lol try it out yourself ive been using it on a separate non work machine and after about three days i put it on my work machine haha i really love it and its much much muuuch faster than anything ive seen before i like my macs but i dont think they can beat this its just too easy and great to use good job microsoft im a happy customer =]
Wow! I can click on things! and put stuff on the task bar! Oh no the task bar is 10pxls taller! I can still minimize and maximize my windows, wow! This looks like vista's look mixed with a FEW of Ubuntu's features. PS:(ubuntu has a bar for icons like this, and bar for programs) IF YOU LISTEN TO THIS VIDEO WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT, it makes you feel like Microsoft isn't even trying.
I kinda thought something about that taskbar looked familiar.. And I'm not a Mac fanboy--I'm a user. I am eagerly awaiting both 7 and Mac OS X 10.6. Gotta keep this 'book up to date
we have been able to put programs on the bar since windows xp..... they just improved the icons and made the taskbar for functional than ever before.... u mac fanboy
do you really think that when someone comes up with a great idea like dock on os x, nobody else will use it? just like embedded video players on internet, it's everywhere nowadays!
hey you know you can also have text on the taskbar it looks cool like when you launch the program the icon expands and text appears and then when you close the app the icon shrinks back to normal
I've been using Win7 build 6801 for a month now. It's pretty stable, and much quicker than vista. Just remember that you can make Win7 look like Vista, or even XP if you wanted. The supertask bar is great. The peak feature is good. The new gadgets area is like OS X's dashbaord. I had Vista Pre 32bit, and it ran Office 07 kinda sluggish, with the same laptop, Win7 office 07 runs smooth
well, you know, windows 7 will be the last edition of windows... then they will redesign the entire operating system from scratch and release somthing else in about 5-7 years.
Okay, i gave this a 4/5 because of the awful sound quality...
but other than that, i'm really excited about all the amazing features that will be in windows 7... i mean we're probly just scratching the surface with the amazing awesomeness... as as i've seen, every other windows is awesome, and every other one sucks.
95 = Awesome, 98 = BAD, 2000 = awesome, ME = BAD, XP = Awesome, Vista = GAY, Windows 7 = Heavenly awesome =D
i wish there could be a mltiple desktop options ... i am a developer and a home user as well .. i would love to switch between a work desktop with developer tools and home desktop with media player and entertainment tools
NOt really, the new taskbar is pretty much the same they've just changed the quiklaunch buttons and made them bigger. Instead working on the appearence of windows, microsoft should work on compatibility issues and problems, thats the whole point of the os, to function. After all theres no point in having a book with a nice cover, but no text inside.
How come just because Microsoft is showing off the new taskbar, people think that they aren't making changes to performance and functionality? Think about it. How many casual users are gonna care that explorer uses 50% less memory per window, boots faster, and installs in 20 minutes? They need something cool to pull in the casual user and the power user so they added things like window docking, aero shake, and libraries which are cool to the home user and can be useful to the power user.
you'll see that windows 7 has become SUPER stable, and SUPER functional. What i mean is that It not only uses HALF the resources of Vista (so about 500 MB instead of the 1 GB) - [btw XP runs at about 350 MB] and that they have improved the boot time to about 20 seconds (xp takes 40, vista takes about 60). Also, the M3 Build is already MORE stable than XP! that means the final will stable like OS X and that's really saying something...
that's awesome... what hard drives are you using or is it a solid state disk... and i wonder how low you can go with 1066Mhz DDR3 ram...
i mean, what we DO know so far is a 20 second boot time on the LOWEST system requirements.. which i think are 2 Ghz single core processor, 1 GB RAM, 128MB Graphics Card, 5400 RPM Hard drive.
its only some crappy 200gb one that is 5400rpm but it still boots really fast xD I dunno why lol. I got a 8800gts 320mb and a core 2 duo E6750 OCd to 2.78 ghz
Its because of the RAM, and the fact that compared to the 5GB size of XP, and the 15 GB Size of Vista, the current builds take up about 1 GB. making the boot process very fast... also, they have a new way to manage processes... instead of just on or off during startup, they work by sensing what needs to be open, for example, the network process will not turn on unless you hook an Ethernet cable or connect to wireless network.
With every release, Windows seems to be getting closer and closer to looking like Mac OSX. The new task bar is really getting into Mac territory. It's very similar to the dock in OSX.
OSX's dock always reminded me of a large pretty quicklaunch on autohide with a small taskbar on the side for finder windows. The way that Windows 2.0 used to show minimized programs looked alot like the Win7 taskbar and if you right click quick launch at any time from Windows 98 to Vista you can choose to use large icons and your taskbar gets resized to the Windows 7 size. So I don't really think windows is stealing ideas from anyone with the taskbar just cleaning it up.
why all this crap for something you don't even need (very excited...lol). Instead of adding crap like that, maybe try focusing on getting it to run faster, better, stronger. (and fix the folder options in vista) kthxbb
So by watching this vid I learned that u double click an icon to open something, click on start to bring the start menu and finally use Ubuntu to see a better future for personal computing. Hmm MS is surely mindfu**ing us. Win7 is going to be another Mac.
I hate the new taskbar!!! XP introduced grouping windows, I hated it and turned it off. And now they minus the text of my tabs now? I sure do hope they give options to turn off grouping and turn on text. Or at least a classic windows and classic xp skins. I am sticking with XP for as long as I can but when I am forced out I hope I can at least customize it to work like me.
Interesting taskbar--looks nice. Though I wonder, what if you're moving a file through these various new implementations? For example, dragging a file from one random window to another minimized one where there are these dual preview windows.
microsoft cleary don't get it.. WE DON'T WANT fancy window transitions or transparency, just something that works and won't consume a whole CPU just to open solitaire!
They will appear as always in the quicklauch area. Also in addition (to anyone that is interested to know) windows 7 starts in about 25 sec and the performance as well as UAC control have been improve drastically. The OS uses less RAM on idle and responds to tasks such as file transfers etc a lot more quickly then before. A lot of features you don't see in this video and you also have to take in account that this is an ALPHA build. I am testing it as we speak. build 6801 with unlocked features.
Windows 7 is going to be a huge improvement over Vista. However the taskbar is too big for my liking. I like slim and slender. Not chubby and beefy :D.
Just because it looks like Vista doesn't mean it preforms like it. I also have build 6801 32 and 64 bit.
Come on windows, do something cutting edge for once. You don't even have multiple desktops, even free linux has a desktop switcher... did I mention it's FREE?

The Windows 7 task bar / start menu is TOTAL CRAP.
The XP UI was far superior. I've been using MS Windows since 1991 and now have Windows 7 64-bit on a $3,000 computer and it's completely unusable.
Why would I want to type program names into a search box? What was wrong with clicking Start -> Office -> Excel? Beautiful simplicity.
Microsoft is a lost company, guaranteed "success" only due to its monopoly on the marketplace.
