Putting aside the previous debates:

Fact is the Hunger Strikers were terrorists some of them involved in murder, bombing, attemped murder Bobby Sands himself was smuggling weapons. In any normal democratic nation these people are put in prison.

While in prison they went on hunger strike for political status....however they weren't politic prisoners they were criminals, and as a result 10 killed themselves.

The US takes the very same view with all terrorists or killers in their country.

No mention of the thousands of people most civilians murdered by the IRA, the tens of thousands injured in their bomb attacks over 30 years of conflict.

The UVF and UDA are just as bad as the IRA. They also murdered civilians simply because of religion. Although the IRA murdered 3/4 times more then the Loyalist side did. Either way their both killers.

The British army and Police was protecting and defending people on both sides, they were there to combat terrorism and as a result almost 1,000 of them were murdered. When they first arrived the Catholic community welcomed them with open arms!!! That soon changed.

IRA attacks, bombings were rising, gun battles were taking place on the Falls road. Police and civilians were being murdered. The government needed to take action, they were under pressure to do something before this got out of control.

The decision they made was to introduce internment and as a result raided homes in search of weapons & arrested suspects.

Looking back even the government says that was wrong thing to do but something had to be done, and that was the action taken.

Correction on Bloody Sunday, thousands marched for Rights and that march passed off peacefully. A few hundred others approached the army and attacked them with bricks, bottles and petrol bombs. Gunmen was seen in the area and its reported shots may have been fired. The people shot that day weren't out to buy some milk in the shops!!!

I agree the army over reacted and its sad that people lost their lives...but if they hadn't of attacked the army they likely would still be alive.
