@saxashton Where did you get this information. I've found no link between Joshua Redman and The Seatbelts or this track anywhere. He certainly didn't play the version on Space Lion (which is basically the same). According to my CD booklet it was played by one of the Seatbelts members.

I guarantee, however, that he played on Goodnight Julia, as well as Waste Land, Piano Black and Cat Blues. James Carter and Chris Potter are all over the album too. Essentially they are members of The Seatbelts, since the band only existed to make the soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop.
Check the liner for the Cowboy Bebop CD Box set, should be there.

It says that Cat Blues was done by the Japanese Seltbelts members and that the sax on Piano Black is played by Naruyoshi Kikuchi. What makes "Bebop" so great is the fact that its characters are so human, so flawed. Nothing ever goes right for them for too long, and they are constantly struggling with real life issues (i.e. Faye's struggle for identity, Spike's ultimately unsuccesful battle to escape his past) and trying to keep food in the fridge. Spike and Julia rank, in my mind, as one of the most tragic couples in entertainment, right up there with Romeo and Juliet.
Coming from a dude who loves heavy metal and techno, this song is absolutely beautiful. It makes me think things differently every time i listen to it.

I whinny like a horse when i masturbate. Only thing that works for me. Either that or looking at pictures of praying mantises reproducing. Whenever I imagine a live-action dream cast of the Bebop crew, I can't convince myself that the ultimate Julia could be any better than Kathleen Turner circa 1992.
Speaking of casting, I wonder if Faye should be Asian, maybe Lucy Liu or somebody... Faye was, after all, a native of Singapore.

I was sitting in a bar stool & it was last call. i tipped the bartender & bent the rim of my hat. i swung my jacket over my shoulder & walked ever so slowly towards the door. tired & lonely i pushed the door, but a force drove me back. when i gained my balance a dark figure stood before me. with a deep voice it says "its been 6 years sir, since we fought along side each other in the coalition in 01. i then realized it was a marine buddy of mine. we sat down & had 1 last drink.
