  • I agree we should guard are tongue for it is life. My concern is for the less obvious, the sweet words that still lead others astray. Jim Jones, I dont know not any of his sermons. Was he very pious in speech? Did his words line up with scripture? Did he cuss? What would have help to desensitized 800 people to his words and save their lives? In Genesis, Eve was led astray with" Yea, hath God said,"and 42 other words that had no profanity.Satan uses subtlety and what we hear is just as important.

  • Hey People! Lets face it. People swear sometimes. I know when I do it I feel bad afterward. For example, SOME (not all) people if they bump their head, first its the pain of it. Then to add insult to injury, you have to day darn instead of damn. As if you are 6 years old. That will just make them angrier. Stuff like this is yet another reason why Jusus Christ had to die on the cross. Because there are some things that GOD knew we would mess up. We just celebrated his resurrection. yesterday.

  • @mistercommentman The speech the bible is speaking of are words Jesus would not use whispering about another to bring them down,and find an occasion to accuse him or her even as humans did to Jesus judging outward appearances only,and not the heart.

  • Croadwarrior :the bible does not give a list but it is clear that we can apply many scriptures that would condemn the slang words listed.The bible says 'IDLE WORDS,CORRUPT WORDS,FILTHY WORDS,VAIN WORDS,PERVERSE WORDS' and yes we can apply them to the profanity or slang of today.People who use these slang words lack self-control and reveal emotions or attitudes that do not please God .What amazes me is that we have allowed these words into our lives and will defend the use of them.

  • These words you listed are such as crap and piss me off are wrong to use and regardless of what others may say to excuse the use of these words they reveal an attitude not control by the holiness of God.If you use these as an expression of malice ,hate,or anger they are still sinful and the 'words and attitude'are both wrong!

  • For the most part, I agree with your series. BUT, you must be very careful not to broad-brush the use of language as if everything you put up as "wrong" for Christians to say is against the Bible. For example, the word "crap" has many meanings and is NOT always a substitute for the "S-word." And "piss me off" is a merely an idiomatic expression meaning you "made me angry." It's fine to do exegesis of Scripture, but not eisegesis (reading into the text).

  • This also applies to taking the Lord's name in vain. Just replacing God with Gosh changes nothing, other than the syllables used. The meaning is unchanged. Many professing Christians say "Oh my Gosh!" It is still blasphemy. Same goes for replacing Jesus, with Jeez. "Jeez man, why don't you chill out!" That is still taking the Lord's name in vain. Even though those replacement words are not in the Bible,they still refer to the same mind pictures. Why use those types of expression at all?

  • @TracyB777 You are right on target.Many euphemisms are used today that refer to God and Jesus like you mentioned.'gosh'..'GOLLY'...'D­ARN IT'.... JEEZ !! 'GOSH DARN IT."We need to be careful and cautious and overcome all sinful speech,like geting the victory over any bad,sinful habit.Using the LORDS NAME in vain can also mean to claim His name as a christian and yet live in open sin,thus defaming His name by our unholy conduct.Great comments.Bro.David.Saying 'holy cr**p,holy sh**t' is sinful.

  • @aflame4God I agree. Sadly, there are still those who do live in holiness, and still think it's OK to say Gosh, Golly, Jeez, etc. Their reasoning is that, those names aren't listed in the Bible specifically so therefore it's not blasphemy. They look to the letter, instead of to the spirit.

    The meanings of words are what are really important, not the pronunciations, and syllables. Would you consider also doing a video on the blasphemy subject? It is a equally serious problem among believers.

  • Good video series. It isn't so much the words themselves that are vulgar. It is the meaning of the words used. Meaning it's not the sound of the syllables used. Words paint pictures in our minds. Vulgar words are vulgar because of the pictures they paint in our minds. Those same words spoken in different languages are still vulgar, even thought they sound different. So replacement words don't change anything since they refer to the same mental images.

  • @csmdeg Based on the fruit you described, it tells me what type of tree they are from. We don't know we are saved, based upon existence of spiritual gifts. We know we are saved because it is evidenced in our lives (1John 2:3-4). Evil spirits can counterfeit spiritual gifts. Ever hear about Kundelini?   • Not all slang is bad. Calling something 'cool' is slang.  That doesn't mean it's evil. From reading the Bible, I believe may take more displeasure in someone calling his neighbor an 'idiot' than using a four letter word to describe exrement.

  • @SaudaraLink Thank you for your comments.The slang referred to in this video was called lewd slang or obscene slang and I gave a few examples.Of course 'cool' or thats 'neat' are not profane but the words that many use are corrupt and vulgar and should be replaced with proper english.Calling someone an 'idiot' is bad and using perverse speech and profanity is also.Paul commands us to 'put off filthy communication'.So if it does not pass the Phil4:8 test I will not use it.:)

  • Another excellent and thought dividing of the Word in Spirit and in Truth. In the Garden, prior to the fall of Adam, there was no profanity. Profanity came into being in the fallen heart once it was no longer holy. There is not a single language in the world that does not contain the equivalent of curse words. That is because, as you point out so clearly, cursing springs from a fallen heart. The most evil occasion of swearing occurs among those who use the Lord's name as a curse. This must stop.

  • I have enjoyed these last few videos. :) Mainly because I have always taken speech very seriously and for a while I fell off the wagon when it came to foul speech, I am getting better again, but unfortunately, I dragged my bros down with me, and now that I am struggling with my words, and I am trying to get them back to standard too. Its hard but we've always watched eachothers backs. And just this last week I had a run-in with someone who claimed to be a Christian on language and following

  • @gloryboundkev Good comments Kevin.Paul as you know is the very one who said to 'put off filthy communication' and 'corrupt speech'.The term is 'cut off' in the KJV which means castrate themselves.Since the death and resurrection of Jesus,there is no spititual value in circumcision.Paul wished that the false teachers would operate on themselves...like Jesus said we should pluck our eyes out we we look to lust[MATT5:28-30]. Jesus is talking about taking sin seriously.'Harsh words but not foul.

How can we follow Jesus Christ and yet not have control over our tongues......especially foul dirty talk .Wow the 'froward mouth and heart' is an abomination to the Lord. This means we cannot excuse such corrupt communication.Change our hearts O GOD AND MAKE THEM NEW.

  • @mcap52 I feel that I prefer not to expose my mind to things that greive the Holy Spirit and if the bible tells me not to do it i do not want to be entertained by it.I believe the increase of violence,sexual sin and the use of crude vulgar words is due to the media.The media has their agenda which is to change our culture and make it worse and more sinful.I cringe by the frequent use of profanity everywhere I go...it fills the air! Cable TV/Movies are educating us to sin more.We must resist it.

  • Sometimes, it's easy for Christians to 'zip the lip', but when they 'flip' and let a word slip, the Lord will help them overcome.

  • Noah Webster 1758-1843 took 27 years to complete the English Dictionary!!To evaluate the etymology of words he learned 26 languages [German,Greek,Latin,Italian,Sp­anish,French,Hebrew,Arabic etc.] This is incredible!! The dictionary was published in1828 with 70,000 words.Webster viewed language as a tool to control unruly thoughts.He considered education 'useless without the use of the Bible.' Jesus said we have to give account for 'every idle word'.James1:19"..slow to speak,slow to get anger.'

  • @CaribbeanBlueSea We have reached an all-time low among Christians and in society when it comes to vulgar language!Just how limited is our vocabulary?How many words do we use to express our emotions?The dictionary is huge and you can find a lot of appropiate words without using degrading slang and perverse speech! Noah Webster who compiled the classic Dictionary with painstaking research and study and travel would be horrified !

  • David, I have watched all four of your videos on this subject, more than once. This one, spells it out in such a way that should cause all who view it to reflect on their vocabulary. I know that it has caused me to examine my heart and the words that proceed from it. It is so easy, in this culture, to form bad habits of speech that we may not be aware of until confronted, as this video has done. I can't thank you enough for your Ministry.   • Outstanding video! I've watched all four parts, and I can say that every time I hear someone curse, I am reminded of how vulgar it is. I am very alert to it now. Very good and convicting video! We need to keep our mouths clean and pure before God all the time!

The Words of our Lord were pure words and we must seek to follow His example.He is the head and we are His Body ! Pleasant or profane?Lets choose pleasant words!!

  • I am so thankful to God I never used cursing as a means to express. I taught my sons that cursing was negative and served no good at all!! They are grown now and I've never heard that language from them. Unfortunately this teaching is needed for some who would take up the devil's language...cursing. Well taught brother David.

There are so many things in me that need fixing, I fall and learn, fall and learn again...some things I learn easier than others, but some things just don't sink in for ages LOL! It's why I did my latest vid...that vid is about me and I guess countless others. I think most important, if our heart is earnest towards God....He will make straight the crooked paths!
