@istarianjinsama F-35C is all screwed up because of a problem with the placement of the tailhook, so it can't land on carriers unless it has a major fix(apparently the hook cant be moved without majorly redoing the design). I'm not sure about the navalized f-22 but I think it's been dropped as an idea

"Maneuverable" uhhhh nope. It turned like a brick, very low instantaneous capability. Decent sustained turn due to good power, and it accelerated very well. But could not turn worth a darn... numerous were confirmed shot down in the Iran-Iraq war by IRIAF F-14s' it was no contest. by AIM-54, AIM-7 and AIM-9. Iraq was actually quite disapointed with the MiG-23 against the IRAIF F-14's it was assumed that it was the answer to the F-14 superiority but not to be.
The MiG-23 is not that bad of a fighter. The Later versions, like the MLD, had a decent radar and could fit good missiles. When MiG-23 practiced vs F-16 it was found that the F-16 pilots found the MiG-23 surprisingly maneuverable.
Mig 23 is an inferior aircraft compare to F14 but it still is not a bad aircraft. During Angola-South Africa war, a Mig 23 flown by a cuban pilot shot down a Mirage F1 using rader guided missile while head on approach. By hearing these distances within 20 miles Mig can def lock on F14s and could have fire. I don't know the reason they didn't until within 10 mile distance.

It was the same way with the F-14 Tomcat that I why it has such a small kill record because most enemy planes would turn away than stay for a conflict with a plane that can kill them from over 50+ miles away.
@TheHm3 Personally, I think the F/A designation never really made sense. In this day and age there are few fighters that aren't just as capable in the strike / ground attack role, so the A part in the F/A is really kind of redundant.

@thestrokeds10 Maybe, if it carries the AIM-54 Phoenix, but I'm not sure the F-14s always went up with a loadout of AIM-54s. The other available air-to-air missiles (AIM-7 Sparrow / AIM-9 Sidewinder) are all relatively short-ranged (< 15 N.M.).
Just need those vortex trusters on the F-14 . Take F-14 today and improve on its engines and avoinics . it would be TOP GUN. F-14 was inService back in the lates 70's alot you were not even born. To much about being invasible to radar and not on performance. i can put cloaking device that will make your plane invisable for $100

@BBEEAANN1 Mig-29 can gain altitude much faster then f-14 and has better acceleration. Mig-29 can easily outturn F-14. Remember, that mig-29 was made to face F-15. F-14 has a better radar and better long range load, Mig-29 is better in dogfight and has better heat seeking missiles. Both are great planes. Well, now we must fly f-16... Nobody knows what those planes can really do because those are always in repair. Now we're equipping few remaining mig's 29 with NATO (mostly US) avionics...
@thestrokeds10 F-14 trust/weight ratio 0.78(0.88 at the best), Mig 29 trust/weight ratio 1.1. Mig 29 afterburner is also much more efficient (but it drains fuel tanks very quickly). Just check servicing manuals for both planes. ;) I'm quite familiar with 29s because I've worked with them. ;) But if you want to live in a dream world - your choice. :)

@Biogem369 An F-111 has never downed an enemy aircraft in combat. The closest an F-111 has come to a kill, is when an EF-111 was being chased by an Iraqi Mirage F-1 on the opening night of Desert Storm. While chasing the EF-111, the Mirage ran himself into the ground, but the EF pilots were given credit for the kill, even though they have ZERO offensive weapons aboard. I'm well versed on the history of the Aardvark, trust me.
@dino312989 the F-14's top attribute where more so speed, radar, and weapons. but at the same time, pilots had to learn things incase they were forced into a close air fight.
@dino312989 Fox 1 is radar guided missile that depends on either complete or assisted radar guidance from the aircraft it is being launched from ie. AIM-150 Advanced Medium Range Air to Airm Missile (AMRAAM). Fox 2 is a IR (heat seaking) missile i.e. AIM-9 Sidewinder. Fox 3 is a long range air to air missile that has its own self guiding radar i.e. AIM-54 Phoenix (also, Fox 3 is currently being updated to classify the AMRAAM as the Phoenix is no longer in development). Hope this helped.

I flew F-16s and ended up falling in love with them (but as a kid the Tomcat was always my favorite even though we didn't have any). Today I'm a contractor for US and Israeli aerospace firms. @dino312989 F-14s did not suit Isreal's mission. The F-14 is great at BVR long range engagement. And in our case, too good. Because Isreal is a very small country that borders several other countries we do our best to keep air to air combat within visual range. The last thing we want is a stray missile flying off into a bordering nation's airspace chasing after a commercial liner. Also the F-14 was too costly to operate. The F-15 was the logical decision considering the circumstances.

Poland had Mig-29s, now we have F-16s and not everything in US produced planes is better.
@mitgat But which one has a better record? You know the F-14 is pretty much eactly the same as the F-15 and the F-15 dominated the Mig-29, so has the F-16, F-18 and even the Su-27. The Mig 29 is all hype but not a very positive record so far. The Mig 29 could have taken on the F-4, F-105 and F-5 but thats it and the answer to that has been solved.

@misio310 In reality, all but three of the MiG-21s shot down in the Vietnam War were shot down WVR, mostly by AIM-9 sidewinder. Another 9 via guns. You should understand that MiG-21s were used sparingly during the war. They preferred shoot and scoot tactics and would rarely stick around to continue the engagements with the F-4s and F-8s. The MiG-21, like the MiG-17 could NOT outurn either aircraft at speeds higher than 500kts, nor could they outclimb them. Only 6 MiG-21s survived the war.
@vfIskullangel I don't want to be rude or anything, but when it comes to F-15 vs Su-27... well F-15 would be in defence. Su-27 is a killer, good that you have F-22 now. From all fighters, I like F-14 the most, but I still think that at close range it has no chance with Mig-29. When it comes to records, how many times Russian 29s were fighting, US F-14? Give F-15 to, I don't know, iraq'i pilots... and send them to fight with russians pilots flying Mig-29. It's not just that simple. :)

Iran Lost 14 F14, but only 3 were shot down by iraqi plane, 1 was shot down by iran AA, 10 was destroyed by mail function (bad maintenance ) .

Probably an old F-86 or FJ-1 Fury drone.
You also can see an F-14 in DACT with a crusader (probably a F-8J).
A lot of these documentaries from the 80s and 90s were made with cobbled together military training and exercise films.
The only real footage is at the end, with the actual gun camera footage from the Libyan Mig-23 shootdown.

I love the F 14, However the F-15 Eagle has a perfect fighting record.
When the F-15's are in there air , there will be no other planes in the sky, they won't even bother , they know they will lose.
It is a shame the F-15 is not in service in the US anymore,

The F-14 squadron shown in the film was mainly VF-84 (Jolly Rodgers) with some VF-211 (Fighting Checkmates) footage mixed in.
VF-84 was disestablished in the 1990s; however, VF-103 (the Sluggers) picked up the name and the emblem (skull and cross bones).
Both VF-103 (now called the Jolly Rodgers) and VF-211 fly the F-18 Super Hornet. They have taken on the squadron designator "VFA" respectfully.
FYI: Also think there was a Shot of VF-101 mixed in there somewhere.

@TheHm3 Personally, I think the F/A designation never really made sense. In this day and age there are few fighters that aren't just as capable in the strike / ground attack role, so the A part in the F/A is really kind of redundant.

@thestrokeds10 Maybe, if it carries the AIM-54 Phoenix, but I'm not sure the F-14s always went up with a loadout of AIM-54s. The other available air-to-air missiles (AIM-7 Sparrow / AIM-9 Sidewinder) are all relatively short-ranged (< 15 N.M.).

Just need those vortex trusters on the F-14 . Take F-14 today and improve on its engines and avoinics . it would be TOP GUN. F-14 was inService back in the lates 70's alot you were not even born. To much about being invasible to radar and not on performance. i can put cloaking device that will make your plane invisable for $100

You think F-14 can do better? :) Let's see: F-14 33100kg, trust 2x93kN(with truster); Mig-29 18480kg trust: 81,4kN(with truster). No plane climbs on a constant rate. :) Don't take it personaly, I do not want to get into some kind of flame war.

@BBEEAANN1 Mig-29 can gain altitude much faster then f-14 and has better acceleration. Mig-29 can easily outturn F-14. Remember, that mig-29 was made to face F-15. F-14 has a better radar and better long range load, Mig-29 is better in dogfight and has better heat seeking missiles. Both are great planes. Well, now we must fly f-16... Nobody knows what those planes can really do because those are always in repair. Now we're equipping few remaining mig's 29 with NATO (mostly US) avionics...

@thestrokeds10 F-14 trust/weight ratio 0.78(0.88 at the best), Mig 29 trust/weight ratio 1.1. Mig 29 afterburner is also much more efficient (but it drains fuel tanks very quickly). Just check servicing manuals for both planes. ;) I'm quite familiar with 29s because I've worked with them. ;) But if you want to live in a dream world - your choice. :)
F-14 is my favorite plane even if it's not the best ever. ;)

@Biogem369 An F-111 has never downed an enemy aircraft in combat. The closest an F-111 has come to a kill, is when an EF-111 was being chased by an Iraqi Mirage F-1 on the opening night of Desert Storm. While chasing the EF-111, the Mirage ran himself into the ground, but the EF pilots were given credit for the kill, even though they have ZERO offensive weapons aboard. I'm well versed on the history of the Aardvark, trust me.

@dino312989 Fox 1 is radar guided missile that depends on either complete or assisted radar guidance from the aircraft it is being launched from ie. AIM-150 Advanced Medium Range Air to Airm Missile (AMRAAM). Fox 2 is a IR (heat seaking) missile i.e. AIM-9 Sidewinder. Fox 3 is a long range air to air missile that has its own self guiding radar i.e. AIM-54 Phoenix (also, Fox 3 is currently being updated to classify the AMRAAM as the Phoenix is no longer in development). Hope this helped.

I flew F-16s and ended up falling in love with them (but as a kid the Tomcat was always my favorite even though we didn't have any). Today I'm a contractor for US and Israeli aerospace firms. @dino312989 F-14s did not suit Isreal's mission. The F-14 is great at BVR long range engagement. And in our case, too good. Because Isreal is a very small country that borders several other countries we do our best to keep air to air combat within visual range. The last thing we want is a stray missile flying off into a bordering nation's airspace chasing after a commercial liner. Also the F-14 was too costly to operate. The F-15 was the logical decision considering the circumstances.

@vfIskullangel Mig-29 could have taken F-14, especially at a range of heat seeking missles/cannons. Both are very good planes. Both need skilled pilots. Mig-29 is climbing faster then F-14, it has better acceleration and is more agile + it has better heat seeking missles. Know your enemy. Poland had Mig-29s, now we have F-16s and not everything in US produced planes is better.

@mitgat But which one has a better record? You know the F-14 is pretty much eactly the same as the F-15 and the F-15 dominated the Mig-29, so has the F-16, F-18 and even the Su-27. The Mig 29 is all hype but not a very positive record so far. The Mig 29 could have taken on the F-4, F-105 and F-5 but thats it and the answer to that has been solved.

@misio310 In reality, all but three of the MiG-21s shot down in the Vietnam War were shot down WVR, mostly by AIM-9 sidewinder. Another 9 via guns. You should understand that MiG-21s were used sparingly during the war. They preferred shoot and scoot tactics and would rarely stick around to continue the engagements with the F-4s and F-8s. The MiG-21, like the MiG-17 could NOT outurn either aircraft at speeds higher than 500kts, nor could they outclimb them. Only 6 MiG-21s survived the war.

@vfIskullangel I don't want to be rude or anything, but when it comes to F-15 vs Su-27... well F-15 would be in defence. Su-27 is a killer, good that you have F-22 now. From all fighters, I like F-14 the most, but I still think that at close range it has no chance with Mig-29. When it comes to records, how many times Russian 29s were fighting, US F-14? Give F-15 to, I don't know, iraq'i pilots... and send them to fight with russians pilots flying Mig-29. It's not just that simple. :)
