Technically very good but sometimes quite abrupt and fast. As far as expression is concerned no match for the in my view unsurpassed Menuhin/Furtwängler recording of 1947.
@MrGutstring "technically very good??" -- said about Heifetz? That's like saying about Einstein "scientifically very good". Why do amateur critics try to sound like they know what they're talking about here??
@purbanegoro Another anti-Semite that has to take it even to the concert hall.
This is all we can expect from an idiot who runs down the street, buck-naked, endlessly raping his own ass over-and-over in public and then demanding of us how the whole thing smells like roses.
@purbanegoro Some people just enjoy different styles of violinists, just because you don't like some violinist's playing doesn't mean that other people don't enjoy them. I'm sure that you have your reasons for enjoying Ricci and Accardo, in fact, I do too. But you don't see me putting down and insulting those who like others. I'm not going to argue with you and curse at you for not liking Heifetz, Perlman, Shlomo, Milstein, etc, but I would like you to not insult people who do like them.
My father told me who Heifetz was... He is a violinist like Perlman and many others. Toscanini is an icon for Beethoven in many things. But this recording from 1940. I'm not to sure about. But it's very soothing.
@atrainroberts Heiftez was obviously a violinist, but NOT like Perlman or any other! (Well, maybe Nathan Milstein).
Toscanini here is giving a fine example of what his detractors DON'T like about him; yes, he is fast, the notes are too terse and too short and it is kind of bombastic. Still, it's not quite "over the top," thank goodness.
Still, Heifetz can and does not only work with it, he SUCCEEDS with it!!!
Anyone who doesn't see that Heifetz is the best violinist ever, must be utterly out of his mind!

@MrGutstring It's not Heifetz who is abrupt; it's the orchestral part that is.

Yiddish rubbish.
Ruggiero Ricci was better than Stern and Menuhin combined.
Salvatore Accardo is a Paganini specialist and technically, timbrally and bravuri far superior to Itzhak Perlman, Shlomo Milstein etc.
Why do listeners gush over these horrible Yiddischer Klezmer scratchers?
You obviously are tone deaf, have elective hearing, or mental acuity iossues..
