@alexgrinkov The MikroKopter platform already supports tracking and following, it has already been able to do that for about 2 years. The target is a little GPS beacon with radio modem. No obstacle avoidance though, that's rather hard to do, sonar is unreliable outdoors.
I'm rather interested in expermenting with autonomous flight than just flying it manually like a toy. Obstacle avoidance is crucuial for that. Why is it supposed to be unreliable outdoors?
@alexgrinkov Range on common units is short, measurement differs when passing different materials, for example grassy ground absorbs sound a lot more than concrete and thus gives different readings or range reduction.
Damned impressive for first FPV! I am all setup for FPV on my Hexa, but don't have the confidence yet. You were cool as cucumber doing those landings right next to yourself!
@captainendoe24 You can, It'll just be very expensive, will also fly about 10min max on a battery charge, and as there's no redundancy or failsafe whatsoever you'll fall like a rock to the ground in case of any kind of problem ;)
These intrigue me but I don't like the fact that you are going to have such short flight times, you are using 3-4 times the energy to fly these compared to a plane. Now show me something that flies for a full half hr carrying 3lbs extra weight above RTF weight and I would be in.
@canonphoto Well, that's the price for being able to hover and not have to continuously fly forward... the low speed/hovering range opens a whole new kind of flying, and images that couldn't be done with a plane (most of the job actually if you want to do jobs for people) ...
@kilrahvp Mikrokopter is probably going to be the closest I will find to suit my needs, $2000 is costly to get started but I'd that is what it takes then not much of a choice.
Am building a Skywalker as we speak that will take care of most of my needs but these would be great to complete my package. Combined cost of about $6000
The possibilities for applications of quadcopters is huge and flight times will get better as technology evolves. Innovators drive society and technology forward.
@myztic123 It's actually the soundtrack of an old 1996 videogame called Scorcher... probably never released separately. It was the time where game soundtracks were still in the form of standard CD audio tracks on the disc...
Can you tell me how good the quality is at the real doenlink you see at your googles?!? As I know the actual resolution oft the googles like the fatshark st 640x480. In my opinion this would look much worse than the posted vid from you. Yould this made fun?
Maybe you could post a vid with the real doenlink quality?
@TheMuetsch The video IS recorded from the live downlink. It's not really possible to show how it looks in the goggles with a video though, it's like me asking you to show me how the image looks like on your TV... you have to see for yourself.
I have old goggles that are definitely better than the Fatsharks, but the Fatsharks are totally useable, and lots of people are having fun flying FPV with them.
Thats my absolute favorite on youtube and a look in the future. Really impressive. The dream of flying in other way. Music sounds and display looks very futuristic. Perfect choice for this clip. I want see the eyes from the sportpilots (from the near located airfield) if she see the Microcopter at the same level! ...cool...
Hi, yes as the aircraft has an onboard computer that takes care of the stabilisation it's quite easier. Doesn't save you from having to learn how to "see" it in the air though ;)
With the latest components flight path can be programmed and even updated live from the PC software if desired. Flight time varies greatly with weight, and payload/battery capacity compromise, let's say 5-20min.
Impressive! I enjoyed watching your flight. What do you think is the cheapest way to get a complete unit (quadcopter, transceiver, batteries + charging device), what price?
Buying all the components on the MK-shop and assembling yourself. But there's quite a lot to read, will need about 2-4 days work to document yourself and build. Count about $1000.
Here you will find everything you need to know to build your own one. as far as i remember the faq the price for all the things you need starts at 450 Euro, but you have to assemble everything from the beginning. If you want it more easy you have to spend about 1000 Euro and you just have to do some screws and stuff like that on the single preassembled parts.
wow wonderfu. I've been wantin to build one of these for my filmmaking projects. Was this a kit you bought or something you put together from scratch?
Now I am almost speechless!!! That is a GREAT heli you built!!! What a flyer and packed with Dragon!!!! OMG What a Mikrocopter!!! Well Done Kilrah!!!!
My wet dream currently is to build a quadcopter that would follow me (using some kind of a radio signal) plus avoiding obstacles (using a sonar).
:(
