i got the duel edge! one side fully serrated one side plain. been using it as edc for six weeks or so i guess. also i have a video up of me stabbing through a phone book. it gets played with a lot, a lot. holding up really well... the s35vn one, still just as sharp as it came
A very good review. Thank you for giving a users viewpoint on the practicality of these knives. People who are looking for an OTF knife such as myself, need an honest opinion. Because they are so expensive getting the facts are very helpful. I have owned 3 MICROTECHS and all 3 HAVE FAILED in less than a couple of days of simply flicking the switch. The store assured me of a full refund but, that leaves me still looking for an OTF that will stand up without the springs breaking.
I own two benchmade balisongs, 42 and 51. I love them, but they do indeed have quality control issues. They've both been sent back for warrenty work. The 42 needs to be sent back again. Thanks for the video, I'm considering an ultratech. Saying you could've bought a gun with the same amount of money is dumb. I also coulda bought 400 double cheeseburgers, but I don't want 400 damn burgers. I want a microtech!
@sirhorsechoker I think you'd definitely love a Microtech Ultratech. Do you have one in mind? We know quite a few people that have an Ultratech as an EDC.
Saying that MICROTECH OTF'S are in a class by themselves and BETTER than the INFIDELs and the PIRANHAS is certainly a mouthful and totally goes against popularly held opinion!
@NANASHI1 I noticed that 3 days ago as well. Just after I bought my 3300 from B-HQ (so it's the New & improved model), big blade I should've gone for the MINI. Benchmade Man that I am, regretfully, I have to agree with the video, now I have both the 3550 SBK and the 3300S, I wish I held out for a SMALL Microtech. HOWEVER they are both BEAUTIFUL pieces of art, since I'm a Maryland Resident, they will be securely displayed at home.
strange they make the 3310 in S30V and the 3300 in D2 wonder why they did that but in all truth not baking on your vid great review but i feel everyone should think for them selfs by going out to there knife store or calling around to places that sell OTFs and handle them to find out for them selfs what feels right in there hands
Auto or manual, the more i try knives, the less i like benchmade, who have 'taken' the whole good ideas of all their competitors for years, and still unable to produce a real original design or products. it stay a mass production brand with not so good value for money and lack of charisma factor.
anyone have thoughts on the benchmade infidel since they switched to D2 steel. While they changed the steel have they worked out any kinks that make it any more reliable?
@KatotownUSA See my post above. FYI..My EDC are an old BenchMade EMERSON 970S Titanium, a BenchMade M&W 707SC Sequel & my BenchMade Oz 940S. The 3300S & The 3550SBC are the nicest letter openers I have.
My benchmade 3300 infidel is way better than that one my is d2 tool steel blade is double sided and opens quicker that one is a blue class infidel mine is a black class one
Also, fuck the police and fuck all of the countries where there is no freedom even to own a damn beautiful knife like this one! I invite everyone from these unfortunate countries to "civil disobedience"! ;)
@pubpukeNfight Yes, it uses a slide type lever (I believe all double action OTF knives do) what this means is instead of a button that needs to be pressed, which can be done accidentally, the lever needs to be slid forward, you are pressing against a spring so it does not move without you wanting it to.
I own a "Benchmade, and though it's quite heavy as you said, I'm pretty happy with it. My infidel is a double edged knife, and the infidel that you present in your video is a one edged knife (if I'm not mistaken). I know the way they function is similar, but the knives are different.
I would like to see you do another comparison with both the 3350 mini infidel and the new production 3300 and 3310. I have heard they worked out all the kinks. That would be awesome!
Sorry but you are one minded. my brother is in the military and almost every guy will buy the benchmade. if they are going to get a OTF they always go with benchmade. And you never explained what problems you were having with the benchmade , what are they? and microtech would be in a lower class compared to benchmade. you obviously got some microtech person that you work with.
We do not have a Microtech person working for us, we have just handled and used a very large number of knives, and that is what we prefer. When it comes to side opening automatics, my favorite is Pro-Tech. My favorite dual-action knives are Lone Wolf. I just happen to like the designs of Microtech OTF knives over Benchmade and a few of the others. That does not make any of them BAD, just not our favorite.
@notyourmamasknives absolutely. Benchmade for the price will do the job but if I had the money for a Halo V or a Nemesis I'd be allll over it. I wish Microtech just one day (or notyourmamasknives ;) ) would do a microtech discount day. I understand they're works of art-just phenominal knives but there's a lot of people out there who can't part with $550 for an OTF such as the Halo V. There's nothing I'd like more though
I agree with you on your assesment of the LONE WOLF DA and the Protechs. I have 5 of the latter and think that they are an incredible knife. In regards to Lone Wolf, if you folks have a Harsey D2 for sale at a reasonable price please feel free to contact me. Thanks.
@pathic1 I wouldn't trust "this" BM knife the leaf spring is far too weak to last you a decent time without needing lubrication, heck I'd rather buy a taiwanese lightning OTF over the Infidel. Plus it's supposed to be advertised towards the military which IMO is kinda BS because the military issues soldiers fixed blade knives
@P1loto I'm from the EU as well, and I bought the Infidel 2 years ago. The only way you can have it is if you buy it from a US web site, then have it shipped to Europe. However, not any web site will ship over, and there might be a control at the border.
In Europe it's illegal even to own a double edged knife. I guess I lucked out, but you're taking a risk.
I don't like when people generalize like that - please note that not all of EU shares the same laws (same applies to US), and there are plenty of places where balisongs/autos (whether single or double edge, ots or otf) are fully legal. Just because something is illegal where you live, doesn't mean it's the same everywhere.
Thankfully not all the countries got swept up in blade paranoia yet...
@EMacXL Where are you from? I've travelled all around Europe (Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the UK, etc.) and I've never found a place where a double edge knife was legal. Not to mention an automatic knife. You can carry a normal knife (NOT automatic, SINGLE edge, with a very small blade) in most places, but with a double edge the police will take it and arrest you. However, if you know a place where laws are different (in the EU), please share this with me, I wanna know.
I'm in Poland, and from what I heard a few other EU countries still enjoy some pretty liberal knife laws (Czech Republic, Austria?). However, my information may be outdated as this tends to change. Also, from what I recall, several countries use only the 'legal reason' criteria, so if you had one, I presume you could use an auto.
Although I agree that justifying a 4 inch double edge auto with a 'legal reason' may be very very hard :)
@EMacXL I'm from Italy and here such a knife as the Infidel benchmade is illegal by all means : you can't own it, you can't carry it. Of course, they wouldn't arrest you just for owning it, but if you take it to public places and they get you, you'll be arrested. Having said so, I don't give a damn shit what the law says, I OWN IT AND I CARRY IT around whenever I feel. There is a chance over a million that I'll ever get caught, so I'll take that chance and keep my freedom. :)
I got a chance to play with a piranha excalibur at a gun show for a few minutes, and I realy want one now. Are the Microtechs realy that much better? And is it worth the extra cash for whatever extra you get?
@spamerman There will always be those who disagree, but in my opinion, Microtech makes a much better knife. Whether it is worth the extra cost, is up to you. I have added Microtech knives to my personal collection, and will continue to do so.
@notyourmamasknives After more closly looking into there products (although never actualy holding one), I actualy still like the piranha better. Seems like a better handle and blade shape to me (just based on what I like), and this is something I plan on using not just showing off. I like it when the knife I want is cheaper then its competition.
Benchmades are overpriced CRAP sorry to tell you all but they are way to weak and cost $425 are you kidding???? and they are being suied right now! stick with the other 2 models!
i cant say much for the infidel, because i dont have one, but seeing as everyone other than yourself loves it, i imagine its pretty good. Anyway, i have more experience with other bm's, and my god, those are fantastic blades. what is your favorite company?
@frizzer900 Im just saying that the guy in this review has the same complaints about this knife that I do at $425 its way too much money for the quality! and im a fan od the piranha and microtech!
@tampatarpon microtechs are awsome.. bm infidel are crap.. and yes the dkw sandshark is a god compared to them all,but you get what you pay for, 1500 for a dkw ss is worth it . 500 for a microtech is worth it, 50 for a bm infidel is also worth it;)
Microtech customer service is shitty. I own a couple and the first one I ever got failed within the first 10 fires.
