This video leaves a novice with the impression that unless he has a 32-bit file, then there's no way to do a transparency channel with the image he wants to use. That can't be correct. Maybe he has to re-format the image or the file, or use chroma key, but that should at least be mentioned.
@VASSTTraining Right. But you could at least mention that it CAN be done that way, rather than just saying "It can't be done" and then ending the video.
Again, please explain how you can extract a transparency channel from a 24bit video file. The point of THIS VIDEO is "Selecting Alpha Channels in Sony Vegas Software."
This video addresses exactly what the title suggests.
We also could mention that you CAN use Secondary Color Corrector as a Garbage Matte tool, but we didn't, because this is about selecting an Alpha Channel in a 32 bit file.
We're sorry you didn't find it useful; most viewers have expressed appreciation.
We'll try this one more time...._THIS VIDEO_ is about selecting an alpha channel INSIDE a video file. It's not about how to create an alpha in a still file. Creating an alpha channel in a 32 bit still is NOT the point of this video. If you want longform explanations of how to convert a video to a still image and include a transparency channel...we offer full-length training.
This is a 3 min video. It's simple. It's to the point. People like it. Except you.
what if you have two seperete video files... the first is the video clip w/ all color; the second, for example, has an apha channel (just black and white clip) of the sky... how do you use the two clips in harmony
..does someone knows how to export working alphachannel AVI from Flash ? i export AVI which has 32bit/alpha and alpha doesnt work in Vegas (have same settings like in video). when i export uncompressed AVI from Flash, i can see just first single frame on Vegas timeline with no motion. Tanks !
thank you very much. i just assumed vegas didnt support alpha

@DominicMetal1979
Red=8bits
Blue=8bits
Green=8bits
Alpha=8bits
what 24bit video file format allows for a transparency channel (alpha channel) in it??
*creating* an alpha channel via keying is NOT the same as selecting a transparency channel (one cannot select something that does not exist).

unfortunately this doesn't work for me... The black background of the .mov file doesn't change to alpha..

@united3000
If the .mov file isn't 32 bit, there isn't a transparency channel. See above comment.

Backgrounds can be found everywhere. Any image or video can be a backgoround image

vegas doesnt like avi either.
what about bitmaps? i'd guess not since theyre only 24bit. i just use a green back ground with bitmaps and chroma key it out.
TheWaynelds 2 years ago
Vegas LOVES avi. It must be a 32 bit av. No 24bit file contains an alpha channel.

How do you know which type of alpha channel to select? I've always used premultiplied dirty but I don't know why.

Thanks for doing this.
I look forward to seeing some more fast tips. While the long tutorials are good, these fast tips are sweet.
