As a long time Shotokan practitioner, I have to ask how on God's green earth you are able to practice all those counterattacks to the knees without wrecking them. I love them as self-defense tactics, but just can't imagine being able to safely train them with a partner. This would make personal injury lawyers salivate.
You must train with great care and consideration for your partner. We all have to go to work the next day so control of power etc is extremely important.
This of course is the rule of our dojo when training, regardless of technique and the skill level of your training partner.

Most of them are not Ashihara Japan or they are Hoosain Narker affiliated, not that there are many Ashiahara dojos here anyway. Our closest style that is an extension of Ashihara Karate is Shintaiikudo Karate based in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
FYI: Ashihara dojo in Lomita city, California deals directly with Ashihara dojo in Japan. Sensei Isao Nishiyama is the Head instructor and his dedication to the style and his techniques are top of the line. This dojo started in Gardena city, California by Sensei Makoto Yoshida who returned to Japan and created Shintaiikudo. Osu!!
Are you training under Sensie Craig Leeson? He is Ashihara in Australia/Geelong or was till he went to Shintaiikudo with Makoto Sensie. Are you connected with Housan Naka brand of Ashihara karate?
I love Ashihara. I trained it for 3 years, but moved to another city, without any Ashihara dojos... I tried Shotokan here in my new city, but it just doesn't work for me..

NIKO is the original style of Ashihara, developed by Hideyuki Ashihara....

Under Ashihara, Kancho Ishii Kazuyoshi was created, and later, Ishii established Seido kaikan, and now, K-1!
Ashihara is top of all this K-1 or Pride fighting competitions!
