  • The hit was perfectly timed. Paetsch had possession of the puck away from the boards. It wasn't any kind of shot to the head. He didn't leave his feet and launch himself into him. He didn't send him head-first into the boards or into the glass. Not to mention that Paetsch was a little off balance.

  • Great hit and setup. Keep crying for a penalty sabre fans. Thats what you do best is cry for penalties and suspensions bc your team is soft

  • @lilitalian1847 Completely agree. And now that cant complain about being a no budget team, with their billionaire owner.......Sabers suck ass.....

  • How can people say that's a dirty hit? Hatin on Avery for no reason.

  • Avery has always been a dirty player

  • He fucking thinks hes proud of that (as a bruins fan)! WTF Avery come to boston and any one of our players will fuck you up, your such a pussy.

  • Ovechkin got two games for doing the exact same thing in which brian cambell said himself that the fall was helped by a rut in the ice.

  • Avery you suck!!! to see the really avery type in walkeravery. Scott Walker is mic'd up and Avery tells him to drop the gloves.... what a pussy!!!!

  • that's pathetic...

  • People can talk all the smack they want about Avery, but that whole play was smart hockey. The skating was hard, the hit was clean, the behind the net pass was perfect and Jagr's finish was brilliant.

  • Great forecheck, perfectly clean hit. Anyone complaining isn't looking at the play, just the name on the jersey. Avery did everything a hockey player should, he skated hard, he hit the shoulder and timed his hit perfectly then finished his check.

Just btw, Avery mouths off but outside of his comments on ex gf's. He has NEVER been suspended. He has a big mouth & you can call him a jerk but plays inside the rules, physically and intelligently.

  • That's not boarding just a heavy hit.

  • Ouch, poor guy. Clean hit but that had to hurt.

  • usually avery is dirty, and i thought this was going to be dirty, but as i saw it the second time it was actually a really good hit and showed how strong he is

  • It was a dirty play, could have killed the guy or broke his neck,as far as the comment below me about him being a SKILLED player,he is far from it.i like Avery, but when you scare 3 goals in 76 games and 24 points,i consider him a 4th line roll player, far from a skilled player.

  • BAORDING! ! ! !! !

  • god...i hate avery

  • H ejust shoulder checked him, and he happened to meet the boards, not boarding

  • @WayneMorrissey easy hit from behind idiot

  • @613station He knows hes there idiot... its not a hit from behind if he's dumb enough to turn away from the player

  • Pretty sure that should have been boarding

  • @FallenChaos55 na cuz he checked him away from the boards the most they cuda gotten away with calling was probly hitting from behind

  • @stevex18z incorrect, boarding includes where a person is hit say about a foot or two from the boards with the intention to hurt the player on the boards

  • @manfromhell1234 your right my mistake

  • @FallenChaos55 tell me how. It was a clean hit, he checked him before he was on the boards, so no boarding.

  • @TerrenceistheMaN14 You don't know what boarding is do you?

  • @GewfieNoofy when an offending player violently pushes or checks an opposing player into the boards of the hockey rink. he got pushed into the boards when he was like maybe 2 feet of the boards. so again no again no boarding.

  • @TerrenceistheMaN14 Actually, being pushed a few feet away from the boards.. is boarding. Look at most boarding calls in the NHL, they are never actually right on the boards... in fact, when a player is right next to the boards the hit gets soaked up, unless the checker comes in at a high speed which is then called charging. Look at Ovechkin's hit on Brian Campbell.

  • @TerrenceistheMaN14 hit from behind

  • @FallenChaos55 It wasn't boarding because that's not the definition of boarding. Avery had a good clean hit and the guy just unfortunately skated into the boards after being hit far from the boards. A hit AT the boards is boarding, that wasn't near it. Good call and good hit. People hate Avery for his antics, but he's a skilled player whether you like him or not. He loses his cool quickly but so do a lot of other players in the NHL and they don't get half the calls that they SHOULD get.

  • @FallenChaos55 that was still like 12 feet back from the boards....theres gotta be a limit to a boarding, or else that would mean if someone was at center ice and someone hit them hart enough they slid into the boards...then it would be a boarding as well

  • @FallenChaos55 Pretty sure that boarding is a hit from behind into the boards, moron. Not the side of the shoulder, as the patesch touches the puck. Clean hit. Pretty sure you're a puss.

  • @FallenChaos55 Not boarding. He was going for the puck and he wasn't hit headfirst into the boards. He wouldn't have even hit the boards if he didn't lose his balance. Play should have been called, though, since he was down on the ice, so the goal shouldn't have counted.

  • @FallenChaos55 Pretty sure you need stronger glasses.

  • @firemage195

Pretty sure that he is right

  • @nightrider155 Pretty sure you need glasses also.

  • @firemage195

pretty sure SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • @FallenChaos55 pretty sure he got owned.

  • @FallenChaos55 Dude I hate Avery as much as you do, we all do but this was a clean hit, it was shoulder to shoulder.

  • @FallenChaos55 boarding because the guy he checks 27 feet away from the boards is a pussy and dives the full 27 feet into the boards? shut up.

  • @23snacKs dude you're right that it wasnt boarding but you are way wrong when you say that Paetsch is a pussy and that he dived. How the hell was that diving? It was a clean hit, but you dont know how bad it can hurt when someone slams you into the boards like that.

  • @FallenChaos55 What? keep getting your gay friends to give you thumbs up....in the real world of hockey....thats a great hit, a "timely hit", and he helped score a goal. Grow Up. Overall it was a great play. Take your bias ass somewhere else. Your probably European/Russian.

  • @FallenChaos55 Well its clean cause he didnt hit him on the boards and Paetsch did turn too.

  • @FallenChaos55 how the fuck is that boarding in any way?

  • @FallenChaos55 Im pretty sure your a soccer player....

  • avery sucks

  • Hockey's a sport for a bunch of blind siding pussies, get fucked, all of you.

  • @BudIce234

If youre basing your opinion on hockey from Avery... You are a complete and total moron

Stick with soccer, the one of the only sports that doesnt have blindsiding because it doesnt have hitting

Nevermind that first thing i said, regardless of your opinion, youre a complete and total moron...

  • @Shamaizing Learn hockey rules? Got a problem with a big hit? You must have been the pussy out on the ice everyone would demolish....might have looked something like the video above.

  • Clean? You Have to be kidding me! That could Have been Boarding/Interference,HE SHOVED HIM INTO THE BOARDS IDIOTS!

  • interference

  • lol averys so bad he has to let his goal celly out on an assist

  • @fsueveryday exactly what i was thinking lol

  • That was a clean hit. Shoulder Shoulder, Puck at the blade. Couldn't agree more with DrewMongo

  • @JoeAverage000 shoulder to shoulder?? he pushed him... i dont think its really a dirty hit but it was completely uncalled for

  • @ExtremeSpawn525 I didn't really see the push until now. I mean, i feel it was called for though. In sports, you need to send a message. It's like everything else. I can see why it is uncalled for, but i can also see why lots of athletes do it. If you can take a shot, take it. Send a message to the guy. make him remember what happened. Also, those hits take energy. I think Avery was just being a asshole though lol, knowing the way he is.

  • Clean hit, how the FUCK is that a dirty hit? Shoulder to Shoulder, and Paetsch had the puck on his blade when the hit was made.

  • Let me start by saying I'm not an Avery fan. With that being said, you have to call it like it is, clean. People are calling this charging? No, he was gliding 15-20ft before the hit. Boarding? It's close, but his momentum makes it look worse.. Honestly there are a few higher risk areas on the ice, this happens to be one. Paetsch is at fault for not expecting this and preparing. This is forechecking at it's finest. If this was your "player" who made the hit, you'd be ok with it I'm sure

  • @mx22jonnyp

Actually idiot it would be Checking from behind or boarding. learn hockey rules before posting.

  • @Shamaizing it was clean.. i play hockey with checking (so i know the rules), and i can tell you that was a clean check. he didn't hit him from the back and they were both chasing the puck. the guy was just off balanced and took it hard...

  • dirty hit, then cele like he won the stanley cup when he didnt even score the damn goal, what a bitch

  • that should be what boarding is

  • Thats why their taking that hit out of the nhl.its dangerous.

  • Paetsch had the puck, Avery removed him.

  • Avery should go and die over his mothers grave stone

  • Double minor for charging. That's what I'd say...

  • if anyone here actually plays hockey they would know that thats a spindless cheap shot

  • @petersilverstone that is cheap

but idk why the refs didnt call anything

  • avery stills likes hard cock in his anal cavity

  • You gotta respect Avery for not admiring the hit.. Instead, he kept skating and set up a goal.. Lmao if only he was this modest all the time

  • lmao this play is the definition of sean avery. What's the matter assholes? Don't like the fact that the Rangers goon everyone in the league? Can't handle it?

  • Its Avery throwing a hit wrether its clean or not it always gonna be dirty! I personally like avery and no im not a rangers fan..

  • i wouldnt call it dirty or clean. it depends on the refs and what they saw. from the reply it looked good but the way he hit the boards looked dirty. i mean the guy got caught with his head down and avery took advantage

  • Avery! Avery! Avery!

  • when i first saw this i thought it was dirty,.,,, but i never noticed the guy touched the puck.,... clean hit

  • boarding?

  • hahahahahah that was so cheap but i love it hahahahahaha

  • Clean hit

  • isnt boarding where one hcokey player is againest the boards and gets laid out? He wasnt near the boards till he fell to it.

  • Avery is a disrespective asshole

  • Nice hit still thnik avery is a dickhead.

  • 41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

Textbook boarding. There's no way a hit like that doesn't get ugly. Wasn't even much of a hit so much as a timed shove to put him off balance and into the boards

    Typical Avery

  • @MoparNutz that is far from "textbook boarding". Paetsch wasn't even below the goal line and avery just layed his ass out. And paetsch had already touched the puck so it is in no way dirty. however, avery wasn't planning on going for the puck and was just looking for a hit, which you can take how you will.

  • @Xpuckstopper33X There's absolutely nothing in the rules that says boarding is only below the goal line. It's at the referees discretion. Plain and simple, it was a dangerous hit that falls under the category of boarding. His "hit" sent Paetsche flying uncontrolled into the boards. Hits like that cause concussions and broken necks. It was cheap, and he took advantage of a player in a bad position.

There's nothing wrong with a good, clean hit. Avery can only seem to do one or the other...

  • @MoparNutz i didn't say the rules said it had to be below the goal line. i was just saying how far he was and how unprepared he was for the hit. Hockey isn't a gentleman's sport, you have to be ready for shit like this and paetsch wasnt

  • @Xpuckstopper33X Gentlemans sport, no. But it is a sport that depends on respect to stop people from being killed or injured. That lack of respect is why Sean Avery is hated throught the league and why he's played himself off several teams. Please tell me you're not trying to explain to a Canadian who has eaten, slept and breathed the game for almost 30 years, about the mentality of the sport. Cheap hit, cheap player. 99% of players wouldn't have made that "hit". Wasn't really even a hit anyway

  • @MoparNutz like i said, in the rule book, that is a clean hit. the intention behind it is completely different. also, the fact that you've followed hockey for 30 years doesn't give your opinions any more validity, just makes you look desperate to add inches to your metaphorical dick.

  • @Xpuckstopper33X In the rule book, as I clearly copied and pasted for your convenience, clearly states that ANY hit that sends a player violently into the boards, is ruled as boarding. What, in your opinion, happens in this video, if Avery didn't send someone violently into the boards?

The severity of the penalty is at the discretion of the Ref.

    continued....

  • @Xpuckstopper33X Also the length of time Ive been involved in the sport (watching/playing) DOES have relevance to my opinion as its clearly more educated than yours. And it does come into play when you try to explain the nature of the sport to me. If you believe this is what hockey is all about, then I hope youre not one of many, or the sport will go downhill. There should be more respect than that in the game. Avery's (uncommon) lack of respect hides behind the instigator rule.

  • @MoparNutz once again, all i hear is dick pumping and don cherry. you're saying paetsch couldn't avoid the hit? does hockey suddenly have a 5 foot rule? no, he reached for the puck and put HIMSELF in danger. paetsch either has to body up or not reach and hit avery instead.

  • @Xpuckstopper33X So your suggestion is that Paetsch reversed his forward progress and magically hit Avery who didn't have the puck, which is thereby interferance? Good call moron. In theory every hit in the NHL is avoidable. If you dance around trying to avoid every hit you won't get much done. In some instances, a hit is not safe, and you have to trust that you won't take a cheap shot by attempting to play the game. This was one. Clearly you have no understanding of the contact side of the game

  • @MoparNutz god i love your comments, give me something to smile about at the end of the day. bodying up is not interference unless you blatantly go out of your way to get in front of someone. paestch let avery get the space and momentum he needed to make that hit. most defensemen get in a players face and stay on them so they can't. paetsch was just fucking careless and painted a bulls-eye right on himself

  • @Xpuckstopper33X Yeah Paestch did get himself in a bad position by stretching out to beat Avery to the puck. The sports unwritten code of ethics says he should be safe in doing so. But Avery took advantage of that situation, making a dangerous hit and should have been penalized for doing so. I wonder, if Paestch ended up with a broken neck, would you still condone this hit? You'll say yes regardless because you clearly have no clue and you're just an idiot with a keyboard and an opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • @MoparNutz if players were allowed to do stupid things without being penalized then it would be an entirely different game. this isn't squirt house where you can completely disregard the possibility of a hit and place yourself in a vulnerable spot. if a person was standing on a train track and got hit by a train no shit you'd feel bad, but that's on them. i feel bad for paetsch and maybe someone other than avery would have done differently, but that's on paetsch.

  • @Xpuckstopper33X Plain and simple, it takes a dirty player like Avery to take advantage of a player in a vulnerable position with no regard to his health or safety. It's sad to see players like him ruining a game that really does operate on a level of respect. He has to play with an edge just to stay in the game, but he crosses the line far too often. He's actually shown that he doens't even know where the line is. He's an embarrassment to the sport and I hope his career doesn't last much longer

  • @MoparNutz and youre not?

  • @expresstrain good contribution! Next time, try adding some intelligent thought when you get the urge to punch the keys :)

  • @MoparNutz it was a shoulder to shoulder hit. watch the video and dont make stupid comments.

  • @MoparNutz it was a shoulder to shoulder hit. watch the video and dont make stupid comments and he touched the puck. clean hit

  • @Richardpahern Shoulder to shoulder? Clearly you didn't watch the video. It was a push on someone off balance. But the fact is, if you can't see the danger in a hit liek that, you're a moron. Thats simple. The Staal hit on Stajan this week is the kinda hit most people think this one is. Hard, and clean. Punished him bigtime, but at no point put him at risk of serious injury. Anyone who condones a play like THIS one, deserves to be sent into the boards the same way. I hope you're so lucky

  • @MoparNutz Don't watch Hockey if you think every big hit can cause an injury. Mind as well take out fighting. Go watch Basketball you pussy.

  • @19Stifler96 Big hits are fine. Injuries happen. Cheap hits are cowardly. Usually done by douchebags like Avery that don't have the balls to actually stand up to an opponent without cheap shots. Anyone who defends him either has a man crush on him or has no knowledge of the sport and what an embarassment he is to it.

More fighting would help put Avery in his place. He's nothing but a sideshow, and only New York could tolerate him being that the fans are generally blind homers.

  • @MoparNutz Do you think that was a cheap hit?

  • @19Stifler96 it was barely a hit. It was a timed shove intended to send him into the boards awkwardly. Most players would have rode him into the boards. Still punishing, but not as dangerous. If he did that, he'd get credit for a big hit. But he's all about dirty crap that pisses people off. He thinks it's funny to get people upset, even if he's putting other players at risk of serious injury in the process.

I'm also shocked the ref didn't whistle it down when a player is clearly hurt

  • @MoparNutz It was a clean hit. You can't make someone hit the boards awkwardly. He positioned himself in a wrong position.

  • @19Stifler96 pushing someone off balance, at high speed, into the boards, from 10 feet out, is clean? Crap like that is why the boarding penalty was invented. Clearly alot of people like to talk that have never really played the sport, or don't have a real knowledge of it. Regardless what fanboys think, there's a reason everyone in the NHL hates Sean Avery. This is just another example of the disrespect he shows opponents (and teammates to be honest. Hence getting kicked off numerous teams)

  • @MoparNutz Boarding is when you hit them on the numbers. That was clearly not. Funny how everyone hates on Avery when he sets up so many plays and doesn't even cheap shot that much, while Brashear can't do shit for any team, can't skate, pass, shoot and cheap shots more than any player. Avery has changed a lot. It's the fucking refs that always give him a penalty just because what he has done in the past.

  • @19Stifler96 I already posted the actual boarding rule in here. Boarding is anytime a player causes another player to be violently thrown into the boards. Hitting from behind is another penalty altogether (rule 43-Checking from behind, as opposed to rule 41-boarding).

Yes it's true there's alot of useless players in the league, but none with the reputation of Avery for being cheap and dangerous. He's changed? Just a few weeks ago he suckered a guy after acting like he didn't want to fight.

  • @19Stifler96 I'll also add that yes, Avery is reasonably skilled. But that doesnt detract from the disregard with which he plays. He has his rep for a reason and has played himself off several teams for his attitude. Even his teammates dont generally like him. His rep will follow him for the rest of his career even if he does clean it up. And when he pulls cheap shit it'll get stirred again. Even when he does play clean for awhile, he manages to screw it up every year with a couple stupid moves

  • clean hit but you could see by averys head and eyes in the replay that he had no intentions of going for the puck, but purely to lay out paetsch, kinda dirty in that regard, but what can ya do

  • i broke my leg in 2 places that required surgery from a hit like that... i mean its a decent hit but it can go bad so fast..

  • it may be a clean hit, but its a dangerous hit and avery loses even more respect for doing something that stupid

  • @Maverrick11

Stupid? He played how he normally plays the game. The only thing that is "wrong" about this hit is how Paetsch hits the boards.

  • clean doesnt look like it but clean

  • yeah i cant stand avery, but thats shoulder to shoulder

  • mmm...you can just hear Paetch's sternum collapsing on impact - such sweet satisfaction

  • I fuckin hate Avery but that was a clean hit.

  • If that's not boarding, I don't know what is.

  • @XxXJustxXxPlayXxX he hit him from the side. boarding is from behind, and you hit the boards face first.

  • @XxXJustxXxPlayXxX Then you don't know what boarding is...

  • @shander21 clean hit wasnt boarding. gotta keep your head up and stay strong on your skates. he didnt do either and got rocked. it happens

  • lol avery pwns

  • sean avery is a know asshole on and off the ice. He has no positive respect,

  • No way in hell that was clean at all.

  • @JeremyKKrantz how is that at all dirty? are you so bias because its Avery, everything he does is probably dirty too you..

  • Clean hit, no head hit involved, no boarding.

Sad he got hurt, but everthing was fine. But don't get me wrong, I think Avery's a douchebag.

  • Sean Avery is waaayyy more hated than Matt Cooke, remember when Cooke was with the Canucks? he was a hero, not a villain.

  • Paetsch was just in a really bad spot, clean hit though

  • pause at 0:08

  • I dont know who is hated more. Matt Cooke or Sean Avery.

  • @PrettiVegas gotta say Avery for sure, the only ones who can stand him are the ones on his team.

  • The difference between Sean Avery and Matt Cooke---the former is actually liked in his own locker room.

  • @tonial39 sometimes not even then

  • thats hockey baby:]

  • um, that seems kinda boarding to me

  • @OddJobKid99 boarding is when a player checks another player face into the board if anything its interference

  • beautiful

  • all you fags complaining about this hit are retarded, you are the ones responsible for destroying the nhl and making it was it is today, a pansy sport. hockey is a contact sport, if you dont wanna get laid out, you have three options...

    1. beat him to the puck and out skate him.

    2. brace for the hit/dodge it (avery is not THAT great of a hitter)

    3 DONT PLAY HOCKEY

if youre going to be a bitch, dont play. go play golf you fucking pansy.

  • @jerfy2001 They don't know how tough it was back in the day these guys now adays would never last one minute in the Old NHL or the WHA for that matter etheir. Hockey is no Glory Just Gutz and real men don't wear helmets!!!

  • @Wehategod the nhl is bigger and faster now adays man old nhl was all cheap shots if thats what u call "manly" i guarantee u a guy like gretzky wouldnt last a minute in todays in nhl

  • @hockey6tx Please Gretzky could out skate and out shot all these stars today.

  • @Wehategod

You're an idiot, just stating the truth.

Gretzky would get demolished in todays NHL.

  • @IslandersFan25 your the idiot Hockey is full of a bunch of pussies compared to the old days. Gretsky survived because He had Andy Semenko protecting him. Everybody knew if you fucked with Gretsky that Semenko would bust you the fuck up. Semenko wasnt the greatest hockey enforcer of all time but he was definitely in the Alist.

  • @hockey6tx share some of those drugs youre doing with me shit for brains

  • i h8 avery but it was a clean hit

  • no no paetsch is my cousin!

  • ow, my poor cousin! i missed this game

  • Avery pwnd your bitch cousin yuk yuk yuk yuk!!!!

  • No penalty---Paetsch was making a play on the puck as Avery slammed into him. And keep in mind that the league is paying extra attention to Sean Avery.

  • whoever said interference is retarded he touched the puck clearly he hit it behibd the net

  • He clearly touches the puck. Even the announcer said it.

  • he never touched the puck, interference! when will the nhl clean it all up?

  • if you watch the replay you see that he actually swats the puck behind the net. unless of course you just hate avery because he does his job. And the NHL is pretty clean especially compared to how it used to be. If you don't like physical contact then i suggest you find a new sport to watch because that's a big part of play. Tennis, Baseball, Basketball; all of these can satisfy your needs for non-contact sports.

  • He did touch the puck! It was an awesome hit but I do feel for Paetsch.

  • interference!

  • Old School Hockey by Sean Avery. If guys don't want to get hit or are going to cry when they get hit, DON'T play Hockey. Go play Fucking Tennis.

  • this actually looks pretty similar to the Ovechkin hit on Campbell

  • averys a faggot

  • diving by the sabre

  • that was easily boarding...

  • @TheExplisit

It can't be boarding... he didn't slam him into the boards...

Avery checked him hard and then Paetsch went flying.

Boarding is only when the player gets shoved into the boards while he is clearly facing them. EX: He takes the puck to the corner and Avery just slams him headfirst.

  • true but it shoulda been a penalty either way...

  • @TheExplisit Are you retarded?

  • no im not mentaly ill are you? its a serious tihng dude...dont joke about it

  • @TheExplisit So you are retarded. First of all, learn what boarding is. Secondly, Stop commenting, you are only making yourself look bad.

    *Thing. *I'm. *Mentally *It's. *Don't

    And lastly, go fuck yourself.

  • That's a clean shoulder-to-shoulder hit, bro.

  • Avery is the only reason I would ever watch hockey. He's the man.

  • clean.

  • avery is a pussy and so are new yorkers

  • they should really instantly stop the game if theres an injury tht goal shouldnt have counted

  • i love avery, but this is dirty

  • avery is a bender, and real NHL teams, not bankrupt ones and teams full of has-beens, would never touch him.

  • LOL, new york rangers are bankrupt? that makes alot of sense idiot.

Avery is a decent player, and is the best in the game at what he does. ALL teams need a player like him, why do you think Dallas has Ott, Tampa has Downie, Colorado has Tucker, Buffalo has Kaleta?

do I need to go on? Agitators are a huge part of hockey.

  • the rangers are the has-beens, they stack every year for the cup and will never get it again.

he is on the stars now, who are bankrupt.

  • Avery is what makes nhl watchable.

  • Perfect Hit. Avery one of the better hitters in the NHL. hahaha
