Textbook boarding. There's no way a hit like that doesn't get ugly. Wasn't even much of a hit so much as a timed shove to put him off balance and into the boards

And paetsch had already touched the puck so it is in no way dirty. however, avery wasn't planning on going for the puck and was just looking for a hit, which you can take how you will.

@Xpuckstopper33X There's absolutely nothing in the rules that says boarding is only below the goal line. It's at the referees discretion. Plain and simple, it was a dangerous hit that falls under the category of boarding. His "hit" sent Paetsche flying uncontrolled into the boards. Hits like that cause concussions and broken necks. It was cheap, and he took advantage of a player in a bad position.
There's nothing wrong with a good, clean hit. Avery can only seem to do one or the other...

That lack of respect is why Sean Avery is hated throught the league and why he's played himself off several teams. And it does come into play when you try to explain the nature of the sport to me. If you believe this is what hockey is all about, then I hope youre not one of many, or the sport will go downhill. There should be more respect than that in the game. Avery's (uncommon) lack of respect hides behind the instigator rule.

In theory every hit in the NHL is avoidable. If you dance around trying to avoid every hit you won't get much done. In some instances, a hit is not safe, and you have to trust that you won't take a cheap shot by attempting to play the game. This was one. Clearly you have no understanding of the contact side of the game

But Avery took advantage of that situation, making a dangerous hit and should have been penalized for doing so. I wonder, if Paestch ended up with a broken neck, would you still condone this hit? You'll say yes regardless because you clearly have no clue and you're just an idiot with a keyboard and an opinion.

It's sad to see players like him ruining a game that really does operate on a level of respect. He has to play with an edge just to stay in the game, but he crosses the line far too often. He's actually shown that he doens't even know where the line is. He's an embarrassment to the sport and I hope his career doesn't last much longer

@19Stifler96 it was barely a hit. It was a timed shove intended to send him into the boards awkwardly. Most players would have rode him into the boards. Still punishing, but not as dangerous. If he did that, he'd get credit for a big hit. But he's all about dirty crap that pisses people off. He thinks it's funny to get people upset, even if he's putting other players at risk of serious injury in the process.
I'm also shocked the ref didn't whistle it down when a player is clearly hurt

@19Stifler96 I already posted the actual boarding rule in here. Boarding is anytime a player causes another player to be violently thrown into the boards. Hitting from behind is another penalty altogether (rule 43-Checking from behind, as opposed to rule 41-boarding).
Yes it's true there's alot of useless players in the league, but none with the reputation of Avery for being cheap and dangerous. He's changed? Just a few weeks ago he suckered a guy after acting like he didn't want to fight.

He has his rep for a reason and has played himself off several teams for his attitude. Even his teammates dont generally like him. His rep will follow him for the rest of his career even if he does clean it up. And when he pulls cheap shit it'll get stirred again. Even when he does play clean for awhile, he manages to screw it up every year with a couple stupid moves

if you watch the replay you see that he actually swats the puck behind the net. unless of course you just hate avery because he does his job. And the NHL is pretty clean especially compared to how it used to be. If you don't like physical contact then i suggest you find a new sport to watch because that's a big part of play. Tennis, Baseball, Basketball; all of these can satisfy your needs for non-contact sports.
