@tardans1 , how do you know? Just because the helmet took damage in no way means you would have died. At best you can say it MAY have saved your life. At this point there are as many studies that show helmets do more harm than good than actually save lives.
@harshbarj What an unreasonable reaction to my comment. The massive damage to my helmet does indeed strongly indicate what would have happened to my skull. Supply links to your studies or cease interacting with me, and resume blowing the guy in this video.
"In all studies reviewed, there are consistent data indicating that wearing an industry-approved bicycle helmet significantly reduces the risk of head injury during a crash or collision. The reduction in risk is somewhat dependent on whether the controls originate from the emergency department or the population at large...(cont)
@tardans1 (cont) However, population-based controls provide the best estimate of helmet effectiveness and allow it greatest generalizability. Overall, helmets decrease the risk of head and brain injury by 70 to 88 percent and facial injury to the upper and mid face by 65 percent."
I believe this guy is the same one who goes around to other people's blogs leaving posts telling them to refrain from using "Cycle Chic" in any form. He claims he has a copyright for this term. Read his blog and you'll see his "instructions" for using his copyrighted term. Highly dubious.
In Britain, 'cyclists' have become an out-group and are now on the receiving-end of the same kind of group-think hatred and abuse that used to be directed at groups such as homosexuals; racial minorities and so-on.
Active and verbal homophobia and racism are now illegal, when will this happen with cyclophobia?
In Dutch these bikes are called bakfiets. It's a cargo bike, used in cities where people live car-free because cars and parking are expensive. A bike is door-to-door, often quicker and easier than a car. They're used for transporting children to school, shopping and moving stuff. Some people even move house with a bakfiets. I think the one ridden by Mikael is the Bullitt by Larry vs Harry.
It needs a chain-guard, essential for reliability and wearing normal clothes.
Re: the Sunday Melbourne bike ride at the 6 minute mark.
What ride did you film this at?
I suspect that if you had filmed it at a Critical Mass, a Ride On dinner or a Brunswick Free ride you would have experienced far less lycra and far more transport cyclists.
He reminds me of Robert Downey Jr. Definitely a cool guy! Hope people will get off their butts, and use their bicycles more - lol! Better yet, hope they make more bicycle paths here in the US :)
BTW: Mikael's face? That's a face that needs punching. What a sanctimonious twat!

That bike he was on at the beginning was cool. Kind of like a pick-up bike. I want one.
