  • lmfao 6:05 that guy is really enjoying the race

    HK is awesome

  • great show

  • What a charming presenter!

  • what restaurant did they go to have dinner? I'd love to pick my own fish.

  • @dennisbbb That restaurant is on Tang Lung street, near Times Square, in Causeway Bay. But I think it's closed now.

  • WAAAAA.....the Background music at 8:25 is NEPALI song called " Resham firi ri ".

  • I used to remember there used to be really good fresh seafood from the "boat people"

  • @Wolfsbane909 buddy wtf u talking about

  • @Felton321, if you don't know who the "boat people" are then u haven't been to China. They are the last pioneers, because they don't have to pay shit for taxes to the governement nor do they have an "fixed address" The pigs(cops) would call these people "N.F.A." which stands for "NO FIXED ADDRESS" because they live on their boats! Government doesn't like that they want to know where the fuck you are at any given moment.

  • Love Hongkong :D

I will visit HK next month !!!

  • @undercoverBLN ill visit u too

  • Everytime I read this kind of comment between Chinese people. It just make me sad. If we have to be a strong nation - please stop killing each other first. Otherwise all the foreigner look at us like we are bunch of monkeys - and in fact the rest of the world are.

Just chip in what I know - Cantonese is in fact an ancient language, it was spoken by the barberian in the south (it was consider Chinese at that time).

  • @DAUCUSCAROTATHEMOVIE mandarin is chinqa man languages

  • @Daucuscarotathemovie, Yeah I agree if we can stop the in-fighting among the many ehtnic groups within China we wouldn't have problems. Of course an fully united China would be a HUGE threat to other nations...

  • no worry, many chinese cities especially cantonese cities are being hongkonglized.

shenzhen is the most outstanding example, u will find a familiar feeling in shenzhen as in hongkong, cuz you will find that many things in shenzhen silimar to hongkong's cuz many honkers live, holiday and run business there, so bring HK lifestyle there.

  • if considered by the principle of european languages, Cantonese and Mandarin are indeed linguistically different enough to be separate languages . And cantonese is in someways more powerful and influential than mandarin, some chinglish origining from cantonese gets more attention. and for many years, cantonese pop, art and culture is more inflential and representative internationally. even today, hong kong culture is still the prototype and leader of chinese world.

  • Except for the fact most Chinese people will not understand the Hong Kong culture unless it is expressed in Mandarin or with caption?

Also, there are so many English words in Hong Kong cantonese, definitely not the major way of introducing new words in Mandarin.

  • yawn!

  • in English please...

  • I can give you so many opposite examples, just considering the number of people living in the mainland that can speak better English than you.

Should massage be translated as "馬殺雞" or "按摩"?複製 is better than 克隆? Do you even know what cloning means in Biology?

  • im saying chinese, not english. we (hk) just have better chinese quality, 複製 is sure better than 克隆, 克隆 is totally a non-meaningful chinese vocab, ie. directly pronouncingly translated from english word 'clone' wtf!. i agree a number of people living in the mainland that can speak better English than me. but so what, what i care is chinese. we hkers are the best chinese. and does 馬殺雞 have chinese meaning, or just another example of directly pronouncing translation?

  • 馬殺雞 is translated by you,cantonese-speaking Hong Kongers,OK?

複製 is sure better than 克隆? Is that so? Cloning is done by using nucleus from somatics cells and cytoplasm from germ cells, and there is no way that the newly-produced individual is an exact copy of the mother.

Cloning is a scientific term, which needs an exact definition. Thus, introducing such a new word like 克隆 into the Chinese language is not a bad idea.

  • I like the sound of cantonese esp, in HongKong Movies. But i know alot more Mandarin & its easyer for me.

  • what the frake. who cares about speaking better english on youtube or in the video? we are all chinese, and why are we doing this to each others?i dun think you are cooler than others just bc of your bilanguage. it makes me really sad while i saw this kind of comment. just enjoy the video and i miss HK as well =\ peace man

  • well let me sum up :

    formally,internationally:

    Hong Konger ,Hongkonger

    Locally: Hong Kongese, Hongkongese

    chinese: Hong Kong People

unformally: Hongese, Honkese, Honger , Honker,

    Hongie, Honkie

    temporarily: SAR man

  • yet i forgot to add that HK is as well the capital of Kungfu, with Bruce Lee as the ever most famous Chinese also Hongkongese!

HK should be the capital of china, not Peking! LOL

  • It doesn't matter which area/city is the capital of China, the most important thing is that China becomes a democratic country. By the way, Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco not in HK.

  • there re several names for HK ppl:(formally) hongkongese, hongkonger,(unformally) hongese or honkese.

    and several names for HK:

(formally)Hong Kong, (unformally) SAR, Pearl of the Orient, Frog Island, Victoria...

and several descriptions for HK: south door of China, pearl of Chinese Dragon, golden-egg-laying goose, last bastion of unfettered capitalism, capital of chinese insulting words, capital of chinese mafia

  • Hong Kong rise up UK

  • well, Hongkong has the qualification to be a city state, singapore is an example! comparing with spanish and Portuguese, there is bigger difference between cantonese and mandarin, so why cant cantonese be a individual language? u must know that cantonese has much bigger influence than any other dialects of chinese!

  • Oh, no, how ignorant you are! The difference between Spanish and Portugese is difinitely way bigger than that between Mandarian and Cantonese, Spanish and Portugese are 2 different languages, idiot, while as you already said, cantonese is a only Chinese dialect! The influence of this dialect is because of the cantonese speaking ppl living abroad and the special history in Hongkong!

  • No, Cantonese and Mandarin are actually linguistically different enough to be separate languages and are considered as such. Dialects are mutually intelligible. But that's not the case with the so-called Chinese "dialects." A Cantonese speaker who has not learned Mandarin will not be able to understand it or figure it out by listening, and vice versa. The pronunciation and lexical vocab are the most drastic differences but grammar is also very different.

  • It totally depends on how you define language and dialects, which is actually an ongoing debate! But I don't think a Shanghainese speaker or Minnan hua speaker would be able to understand or figure out Mandarian if he had been separate from the mandarian-speaking environment for 100 years!

  • I'm defining language and dialect by the definitions of linguistics.

  • If Cantonese was a language, I would consider all these so-called dialects languages too! The dialects like Shanghai dialects, Zhejiang dialects, minnan hua etc. are too different for me to understand and I believe that their pronunciation and lexical vocab are drastically different too as well as their grammar!

  • They are indeed linguistically classified as separate languages. Take any language or anthropology course in any university and you'd be taught so. Chinese is a language family (Sinitic Language Family) with different languages. Cantonese is its own language and has its own dialects (toi-san-wa being a dialect of Cantonese, it's more or less intelligible with Standard Cantonese). You are absolutely right on this.

  • There is no definite answer.

One big difference between Chinese languages and European languages is that all Chinese languages/dialects share the same writing systems, except for special characters created by Cantonese speakers and the Latin systems used by some Hokkien speakers.

In places like Hubei or Fujian, people from different county or village speak differently.

  • the "sharing" of the same writing system is all but forced. Think Latin and its vernaculars...no one actually talks like that in Rome. The Chinese writing system is currently based more or less on Mandarin because the people decided it. there isn't a drastic difference between formal spoken Mandarin and written Chinese. However, spoken Cantonese is, formal or not, so different one can't even identify it with written Chinese. It's way worse than the difference between Vulgar Latin and Latin.

  • It's just arrogant to me that people from Hongkong have to identify them as Hongkongneses instead of Chinese and to think Cantonese as a language, when it's in fact just a dialect like the ones spoken in other parts of China!

  • agreed. im canto, but i would never say im hong kongnese. Hong kong is China. im Chinese

  • Cantonese is the official language of Hong Kong. It is different in status from other "dialects" in that it has the backing of an entire pop culture and media and literature and in fact, traditional culture (cantonese opera for example) and art behind it. Cantonese is around 2000 years old, Mandarin developed around 800 years ago. Cantonese is a much more conservative language in the Sinitic family. The cultural power of Cantonese is difficult to overcome even today 12 years after the Handover.

  • If all the provinces of China had been isolated from each other like HK for a hundred years, I guess they would today have their culture, media etc in their own languages/Dialects as well with the "dialects" being their official languages!

Actually today, all the different provinces still get their own culture and it would be really sad to see the different cultures disappear!

  • HK is techincally trying to become a city state heh

  • people in hk have the highest iq in the world actually... do your research
