@StusieQ Yes, thank you for your confirmation and plaudits.
I think that what makes this series of three videos interesting is that they were recorded so early in her career. They show her brilliance as a solo artist.
I saw Ruthie perform with Cyd Cassone in 02 or 03 in St. Louis. I remember them sounding alot like this...simple, pure, infectious joy. So that might be Cyd Cassone on percussion/harmony vocals. They really seemed to have fun performing together. Thanks for uploading these videos. I'd love to see more, if you have more.
Ruthie Foster....grew up in Gause, Texas (small town in Brazos River valley), did a stint in the Navy as vocalist for Navy band, tried pro career in New York and never hit, returned to Texas to care for ailing mother and redirected her music into singer/songwriter & folk mode, has tremendous following and success in the folk festival and house concert circuit, recently redirected career again to larger venues with backup band (drums, bass, guitar & occasional keys)...good bio on Amazon.
Thank you for posting this information. I only saw her perform this one time -- she was sharing the bill with the singer I drove 300 miles to see -- but I was blown away with her performance. She is so much better that most of those "singers" on AGT!
@LSUBuff I'd love to see more clips from this event. Are they of Ruthie? I commented yesterday that I think it might be Cyd Cassone performing with Ruthie. They put on a great show in St. Louis too. Unforgettable. Your clips from 2002 allow me to return to that night in my mind...Thanks!
Yes, happy memories with more to be made tomorrow, God willing. I'm aiming to meet an end of the day deadline and then I'll reward myself with an evening with Ruthie Foster, live in Columbia, MO... just a 2 hour drive. What a way to de-stress!!!

Anyone know who is doing the harmony vocals? So amazing, truly a gift of the sort that makes life worth living...
lisaglynne 2 years ago
You're right -- like all good harmony it subtly adds to the main performance and does not detract from it. Few do it as well as this.
