  • Everybody hates Chris....

  • @rafaeldefazio kkkkkkk sabia q ia ter um comentario assim do Brasil

  • when i was a kid i loved this show because of the theme...best opening theme ever!!

  • i had to come here after spending time in the wierd zone of you tube, you know ghost evp's and all that .this is just soothing takesme back to early carefree childhood days.

  • There will only be 4 soap operas left very soon.

I think the genre will bounce back in a few years but perhaps on cable.

  • They picked a good guy to play Snapper's brother Greg.

  • I remember that introduction since I watched it from 73 to 82.

  • I believe this intro is from 1979 or early 1980 since Kay was still married to Derek, and Stuart and Liz appeared separately before marrying in 1980.

  • My favorite moment listening to this was in the movie MR. MOM when Michael Keaton was layed-off & was at home doing chores & says, "how can anyone watch this stuff?" Than after he grows his beard, puts on a beer gut, he is so enraptured that he melts a grill-cheese sandwhich with an iron so as not to become distracted & tells the kids to keep it down during the soap. Later he actually fantasizes about being in the soap but within the context of his own life & marriage.

    I love that movie.

  • What an awesome intro. Brings back memories of childhood when I didn't even know what this show was about.

  • most beautiful daytime soap theme equaled only by "Passions" theme.

  • when this show first came out I watched in the summer (summer vacation from grade school). After the Bold and the Beautiful it was my least favorite soap that I watched. ATWT and GL are gone so i started watching Y&R again (soapnet). I think this show was better when it first started then it now. Hope this one doesn't go off the air too.

  • WOW,

    I've been waching Y & R since the 70', but I DON'T remeber this AT ALL

I don't remember ANY of these people on the screen

  • I remember this from everybody hates chris LOL XD

  • What a classic opening !!!!!!!!

  • Ah, the good ol' days when the show was actually good, BIll Bell was the writer, and the show was entertaining. Now it's been reduced to cheap, airheaded, bedhopping females (who've reduced themselves to having sex in dark alleys in trash dumpsters with men they don't like) and clueless and weak men who trash women in magazines and then turn around and marry them. The so-called head writer, Marie Arena Bell, has about as much talent as a drunken monkey wacked out on meth.

  • I love the opening wih the drawn cast members.

  • best tween drama

  • This is where Mary J. Blige got that theme

  • The first one shows Stuart, Leslie, and Lorie Brooks; second, Lance and Lucas Prentiss; third, Liz Foster(before she married Stuart and became Liz Foster Brooks); fourth, Katherine Chancellor with two unknown characters; and fifth, William "Snapper" Foster and his brother Greg Foster. Hope this clears it up for anyone wanting to know!

  • @familyfeudfan95 The 2 guys w/Katherine areBrock(above), and Derek(below)! This clears up everything!

  • @familyfeudfan95 The two "unknown" characters are Brock Reynolds (Kay's son) and Kay's then-husband Derek Thurston.

  • That is Lance w/ Lucas, but who is with Lorie and Leslie? Reply back PLEASE!

  • I got almost everybody, but I'll have to keep looking, but that's Lance & Lorie w/Leslie at the bottom, then it's somebody w/Lucas(guy w/beard), Liz is solo, I don't know about these 3 people next, but at the end it's Snapper and Greg Foster!

  • I know now that's Liz Foster at 0:21, and one of the guys at 0:30 is Snapper!

  • In this opening, who are these people as they appear and disappear? Reply back ASAP!

  • Does anyone know what year this opening credits was? Thank you!

  • I've made a hip hop instrumental outta this, haha

  • Many of them were not that young. Many looked like they needed rest.

I would rather be fighting and dying in a war instead of wasting 30 years of my life as a soap opera actor.

  • This theme song reminds me of my childhood. My mom used to watch this and I used to listen to this theme song on TV while I did my homework at the dinner table. Aaahh...fond memories. =)

  • they need to have a montage of Republicans and Democrats to this song...

  • Has anyone noticed the beginning sounds like, "No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige?

  • @MokonaSoccerPlayer22 Yeah, Mary sampled Nadia's Theme (the Y&R song) for her song.

  • @wedge8874 The Original Music was written by...Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr and the Theme music was called Cotton's Dream FOR Bless the Beast and the Children....

  • @MokonaSoccerPlayer22

as well as days of our lives and footballers wives

  • @MokonaSoccerPlayer22 Mary borrowed some of Nadia's Theme to make a new song.

  • @MokonaSoccerPlayer22 : "A sample of "Nadia's Theme" is the musical accompaniment to the verses of Mary J. Blige's single "No More Drama" from her album with the same name. In the tune, Blige's persona describes her former self as "young and restless". It was also sampled in the Krayzie Bone song "We Starvin" from his album Thug Mentality 1999, and Three 6 Mafia's song Tear Da Club Up '97 from their album Chapter 2: World Domination."

  • @MokonaSoccerPlayer22 nope, no one has ever noticed that.

  • the theme song is so beautiful

  • I never really understood soap opera's because most of them were so long and I guess you would have to watch most of them to understand the story but I love the opening for The Young and the Restless!

  • This is my ringtone that i've set for some of the people. That way i can ascertain i I wish to get all soapy with the news they have, or TIVO it for a later date....

  • I want to know if Donald Diamant still work in this soap, I used to work as a baby sitter for his fiance and after they got married also, at that time she had 2 boys, name Sasha and Lauren. He was an amazing person. Is there any one out there that can answer me. Tks

  • @PIZZAgirl94 Don Diamant is now on The Bold and the Beautiful. They killed his character off of the Young and Restless.

  • i just saw this on everybody hates chris and sec ago

  • yea. it was the episode where julius started watching the young and the restless and couldn't stop. thats a funny episode.

  • I first heard this song in 1973 when the original Y/R began (saw the first episode) I can still hear the clinking of ice in a high ball glass from Mrs. Chancellor and her scene ( OHHH-MYY-GODDDD-BROCKK) lol. But this became most famous from Nadia Comaneci at the '76 Olympics- That's why it's called "Nadia's Theme" I have the original album with her picture on the cover and danced to it in a high school production...Makes me feel old thinking back.

  • This music piece was part of the score for the film "Bless the Beasts and the Children."

  • best soap ever. for some reason i started watching it when i was a teenager and liked it. now i can pick it up and watch it whenever.

  • From Everybody Hates Chris Julius watching the parody of TY&TR. episode Everybody hates the gout

  • @tyson83782 That's why I am watching ths LOL

  • Oh my word , I recall this & I still watch Y&R to this very day , I miss the old Philip Chanselor , my favs were Nina & Cricket , Nina still on today , Crickett gone , alot of them moved over too BOLD & BEAUTIFUL , Brad & Old Victoria !!!

  • Hi all we never know our last day here. Today accept Jesus to be saved by him to make it to Heaven

    watch?v=OldhHZT8FKk

  • They were about to embark on {one of} this show's best storylines. Lori and Lance FINALLY were engaged and Vanessa, hating Lori, decided the only way at this point to keep them apart forever was to frame Lori for her own murder. She befriended Lori for months helping her with the wedding preps etc. The audience knew she was up to no good - no one else did. The episode in Nov. 1981 where Vanessa "jumped" off Lori's balcony to her death was beyond shocking. I would love to see it again...

  • @TimsDale4ever - i agree. i'll always think that Y&R was at its best between 1977-1982. vanessa's scheme to frame lori was A-MAZING!

  • Did you happen to see the scene in winter 1982? I missed it because of an appointment. Lori went to Vanessa's grave almost immediately after the verdict. The scene faded out on Lori's face staring at the grave and then the opening credits started. I'm sure there were several scenes of Lori talking to Vanessa's grave. I've always wondered what she said...Was it "Look bitch, your scheme didn't work", or "So sad that you did this to yourself when we all could have been a very happy family."

  • no i can't remember the grave scene unfortunately. one of the best scenes was when lori finally worked up the courage to rip vanessa's veil off. i also remember lots of other great story lines from around that time though: rose and the prostituion ring; nikki getting stalked by her mad neighbour edward; nikki and paul getting brainwashed in the religious cult 'the new world'; victor locking michael scott in the bunker under the ranch - great stuff! wish there was a way to see these again.

  • Actually Y&R got way better, I mean really good (IMO) than most daytime dramas around the mid/late 80's/early mid 90's. Particularly with the Cassandra & George Rawlins murder mystery storyline and of course the nurse from hell SHELIA CARTER!!! lol!! But I have to admit though, the Vanessa Printess framing Lori Brooks for her murder was pure GENIUS!! That was the magic touched of Bill Bell that made this show so great. Sad to say Y&R died when the great Mr. Bell did several years ago.

  • Dear God, a time when this show was truly "Y&R". Amber, Daniel, Kevin, Jana, Cloe, Chance, Billy, Lilly, etc. be damned with ya boring selves, but you will never live up to the extraordinarily entertaining perfection that "was" this show. The storylines were so interesting back then, and do I need to mention the characters? Lori, Leslie, Kay, Jill (forever Dickson), Lance, Lucas, Stuart, Liz -- it was just beyond wonderful!

  • Nana loved this show. She used to call it "her story". She was in hospice. Very low. We knew we were gonna lose her that day. So I turned this on for her and I watched it for her. She died that night.

  • you are so right !!! this show was so much better in the 70's & there is still only 1 jill - Brenda Dickson was outstanding and i wish they would bring her back !

  • @Fanik8

  • @Fanik8 lol i cant believe 16 people gave u thumbs up, i know they mean good intentions but it looks mean

  • My son, who was young at the time, used to call this "The Young and The Rest of Us" LOL

  • Yes, this must have been from 1980. Because Brenda Dickson is gone from the credits, while Joe Ladue is still around.. he left late in 1980.

  • awesome! this is when i started watching Y&R. i know technology has come a long way, but i wish they still kept their opening theme like this. it's a classic...

  • I wish they would've too. This IS a classic. I'd love to find full episodes online from this classic era.

  • I agree, that would be amazing. Would love to see episodes with Lorie Brookes and Vanessa Prentice at war.

  • I bet this was riht when Brenda Dickson left the first time. The shot of Liz used to be a two shot I think (you can see if on different bumpers on YT) Anyone remember when John McCook and Victoria Mallory left in the same period, and they had just made a new opening, and Lance & Leslie were the first card--Y&R actually began the theme a few bars in. They ran that abbreviated opening for almost a year before finally doing a new one!!

  • My grandma used to watch this one too, and she still does. When I was little, I'd hear the theme song come on, and I'd drop whatever I was doing so i could watch Mrs. Chancellor or Nikki :)

  • this is the best soap on tv my grandmother got me hooked on this about twenty years ago and I'm still watching and btw victor and phyllis rock

  • This show has been number one for years. And the characters are over 30 yet they still rock. Proof that soaps can still thrive.

  • im watching this series...34 years ago...i was in 2nd year highskul...

  • i have 2 dvds with some episodes of the show from 1999 if anyone wants to trade/buy

    1999 y&r episodes

    - June 21, 22, 24, 25

    - June 28, 30 / July 1, 2

  • days of our lives is much better& this show would be better if they got rid of that shriveled victor& the sick looking cat phylis.they make david caruso look like a good actor.

  • surely you must be joking....

Yand R has been the GOLD STANDARD of soaps for well over 30 years.

  • GOLD STANDARD?!!!!!!! thats a JOKE!!!! i don't really watch Y&R but i know there a good soap i seen some episodes and i kinda like Victor but that being said they are not the GOLD STANDARD. n da late 70's and damn near all the 80's General Hospital and All My Children ranked 1&2. (Luke n Laura) the best supercouple of ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Y&R took ova n da early 90's

  • You should write Early 70s Opening Theme instead of 80s.

  • actually, the opening is probably from 1980. So early 80's is fine. Brenda D had just left for the 1st time, which is why "Liz" has her own "card"

  • i swear soap opera is tha only thing i watch on tv nothin else

  • Dude, my granny has been watching this show since it came out in 1973. I swear people would riot if this show ever had to go off the air.

  • You got that right. Lol. I've been watching since '79 or '80, and I'm 37.

  • I remember being home sick from school and having to watch this with my mom. Our line up was: The price is right at 11 am, the local news at 12 and the young and the restless at 1.

  • Nice.. those were the days!!

  • omg. i've never seen this. i grew up with my grandma watching this soap. i watch it every now and again too. i remember 20 yrs ago when i was the same age as victoria newman. than i became a teen and she was in her 30s. soaps are punny.

  • Great opening theme

  • this is coool.... lol and I wasn't even born yet

  • is that John McCook from B&B at 0.15 seconds? i've only ever seen him as eric forrester

  • Yep. He played Lance Prentiss. I guess they liked him so much they cast him on B&B!

  • @wedge8874 Why don't they get Jamie Lynn Bauer back ? Everyone else is going back.

  • And fyi (in case you didn't know), the last picture with the two guys...the one on the left is David Hasselhoff.

  • yes,John McCook played Lance Prentiss from 1975-1980. now,he plays Eric Forrester from 1987-present. he's one of the four regular castmembers still on the show

  • @gct89 I was thinking the exact same thing!! wow

  • @gct89 That might be because he was Lance Prentiss on Y & R for a while!

  • This song was originally entitled "Cotton's Dream" from the 1971 movie "Bless the Beast & Children".

  • WOW....this show is really old its been going on since then and i still watch it...

  • Im 24 years old, I know my mother has been watching this soap since before I was born...

  • i was lilttle..:)) and i didn't knwe t read:)) i grew up with this soap:))

  • Who's who? I haven't been watching Y&R only for 10 years. Can somebody tell mw please? :D

  • the characters are Stuart Brookes and two of his four daughters Lorie & Lesley; Lance & Lucas Prentiss; Liz Foster (Jill's mum - or so we thought); Kay Chancellor with her son Brock Reynolds and husband at the time Derek Thurston; and Snapper & Greg Foster (Jill's brothers).

  • wow, thank you! I only know about Katherine and Liz. The characters changed a lot!

  • i saw this on CW'S Everybody Hates Chris lol

  • And I thought I was the only one who faked sick to stay home and the watch the soaps;-) Glad to see I wasn't the only one.

    Thanks for posting!

  • 1980s

  • Brings back memories of half days from school, vacation days... I was just a freshman in high school..those were the only days I could watch. Or, if I faked sick!!!

    My Mom loved this show.

  • Same here!! Hearing and seeing this opening theme brings back profound memories from when I was a kid and would stay home from school, and my mother would have this on as she cleaned the house. Miss those days.

  • @aspetwhy ooooooooow!!

  • @aspetwhy the good ol' days when women used to stay in the kitchen

  • @aspetwhy you also, huh ?

  • OH Yeah! Faking sick so I could stay home to watch my soaps. Those were the days! I had a love/hate for half days. I loved them cuz u got a chance to see all of your soaps that day but I hated them cuz it always seemed like those episodes were the greatest and it was some type of awesome cliffhanger but then the next day was a full day of school so you knew you would miss it. lol!

  • So true!

  • who r u pplz funny im big fan of the show today but i don't who characters those where back then i wasn't even born yet! lolz~!

  • awesome theme but don't listen to this if you are down and sad!

  • I always liked these sketch openings of the actors from Y&R in the late 70's early 80's. They were very well done. The sketches they did around the mid 80's (the first one done in 1984 with Lauren in the opening) was horrible and looked cheaply done. Now having said that, the 90's openings of Y&R were much much better, do to the fact that, they were done live with zoom in motion shots of the actors and in color! LOL!!!

  • This opening was shown from 1980 until 1981.

  • Was this opening used in 1980 and 1981?

  • Was this before or after Y&R expanded to an hour?

  • this was after young and the restless expanded to an hour. i remembered John McCook being on there before his years on the Bold and The Beautiful.

  • Does anyone know which year this was used?

  • either 1980 or 1981

  • this would be 1980, because in this video, Stuart and Liz have not married yet, and later on in the year, they married.

  • Exactly what year in the early 80's was this opening aired?

  • 1980

  • Some of these Soap Themes are always so Serenading!!

  • Never knew they used blue as the font color.

I always thought it was red.

    Interesting..

  • wow that brought back memories. Ive been watching the Y&R since 1978! I remember all those characters! ok... now im feeling old..lol

  • just thought you might like to know there is the opening from 1978 on here as well (in case you haven't alredy seen it). just type in Y&R 1978 and it comes up. i started watching it in 1978 too and it's amazing how vividly i still remember certain storylines and scenes. enjoy!

  • ....a friend of mine,his brother is a Y&R

fan and I'd think that he'd enjoy this.

  • I remember Vanessa Prentiss with the veil. Bizarre. But, good !

  • musical group triple six mafia sampled part of this theme and made a hit song.

    "tear the club up"

they used the first 6 seconds i believe, its a good theme

  • yeah that is depressing

  • they should redo a 35th anniversary version of the very first y and r opening with the current cast. with the sketches. that would be kinda hot.

  • Wow, that was intresting. I like the credits know .

  • If I had designed this opening, I would have put Jill (Brenda Dickson) with her mother Liz, focus in on a close-up of Jill before changing to Kay. Too late now I suppose :)

  • That's actually the way this opening was originally designed in 1979. Jill & Liz were in the same drawing. Brenda Dickson was on the left-hand side, and Julianna McCarthy was on the right. The camera showed a long shot of Jill & Liz, then zoomed in for a close-up of Jill, then faded to the next drawing of Kay Chancellor's family. In the spring of 1980, Brenda Dickson left the show, and Jill's photo was "erased", leaving Liz in a big solo shot, which is the opening that is pictured here.

  • Awh cool, thanks for confirming that. It certainly makes sense. It's also a bit strange that Chris Brookes isn't featured, but I suppose you can't put everyone on there.

  • Chris Brooks was featured in the closing theme during this time period, rather than in the opening. The role of Chris had recently been recast (Trish Stewart left; Lynn Topping took over), and the character was sort of in the background during the transition. I guess she wasn't "important" enough to be in the opening. As I recall, the closing theme featured a drawing of four female characters -- the New Chris, Nikki Reed, Casey Reed, and Vanessa Prentiss.

  • Wow, you're an expert! Thanks for all this info. I forgot about Casey Reed. It's weird how characters just get forgotten about huh? I mean Nikki never mentions her sister at all any more and they were close. I loved Vanessa Prentiss. She was such a scary bitch with that veil over her face. I was really young at the time, but I remember she dropped Brooks, the little baby, and Lorie went pyscho at her, is that right? And then how she jumped off Lorie's balcony and framed her for murder. Awesome!

  • Actually, I just saw those old closing credit at the end of a Y&R minisode on here. It's not Chris Brooks, but April Stevens, Paul's girlfriend at the time and Heather's mother.

  • do you know where I can access that Mini Episode you saw,

    Thanks:)

  • I just tried looking for it but it appears as though it has been removed. Annoying.

  • if you type in "vintage 1981 nikki's strip", part of an episode from that year comes up. it also has some footage of snapper and sally plus the ending with vanessa, casey, april and nikki. just thought you might enjoy.

  • chris brooks was featured at the time she was played by Lynn Topping,The Faces changed every day,the last sketch was snapper and his brother Greg who was Married To Nikki,Greg was so handsome,I had the biggest crush on Wings Hauser,I thought he was so sensitive In his portrayl Of Greg Foster,But what I forget was It Is acting, and all his other roles were Rough and Tough Action Parts

  • Does anyone have a video of the opening credits from 1979. I would like to see it as you described.

  • It is depressing.

  • My grandma was a big fan of the show.

  • This theme is timeless!

  • this show is the shizit

  • not a soap fan but y and r is the best

  • Not a Soap fan The Young and the Restless was the only show I watch and remembering it in the 80's as a kid that the opening had alot of sex appeal and glam. I guess what got me into the series is the song dramatic opening and Victoria Rowell in the mid-90s!

  • That's how I like my soap opera themes to sound like. They're not so generic and bland.

  • wayne gretzky was also in this show

  • Quisiera conseguir el CD o bajar la cancion completa de "The young and the restless del principio de los 80.

  • Wow. Its so much different than I imagined!

  • the leslie2 pictured wasn't as good as the leslie1 she replaced.

  • Do you have more openings from 1980-1990?If you do,can you post them?

  • O victorun ben amına koyim!Cocuklugumu yedi a.q. evladı.BURADA GENE CIKTI KARSIMA!

  • Do you have the entire episode on tape still? Can you post it in different parts? That would be amazing.I was too young then and missed a lot of it.

  • yeah, i would love that do if you've got it. i started watching Y&R around this time

  • This opening consists of...

    Stuart, Leslie, Lorie

    Lance & Lucas

    Liz

    Brock, Kay, Derek

    Snapper & Greg

  • hasslehoff was on there lol

  • I'm not sure, but I think one of the people in this opening was John McCook. I forgot what character he played, but I know he used to be on Y&R before he took the role of Eric Forrester when B&B premeried in 1987.

  • The Young and the Restless was at its best around this time.

  • @justlikeitsounds OMG amen!! No idiotic Sharon, or boring Nick. What would we do without them?
