Nice beats you got on here fro the ES1. Can I ask a question? I jsut got one of these real cheap and was wondering how you program basslines and synth lines without using the "Pitch" wheel? Is there an easy way of programming a bassline chromatically?
@aikighost Sorry, it is not very easy, as far as I know. I'll have to use pitch speed knob. The pitch parameter can be entered manually though (read "Editing motion sequence data" on the manual.)
On Electribe EX, a sample can be assigned chromatically on the pads.
@jvcforce Ah ok cool, I guess its easier to make mad off pitch stuff on the ES and leave another synth to do pitched stuff then :) Thanks for your quick answer.
Can you program your own recorded drums sounds into the ES-1 and make a beat? Like if I record the sounds from my drumkit as a wav file, can I import them into the ES-1 and make beats that way? I really just want to assign my own recorded drum sounds to pads or banks ie sequence my own drum sounds.
The most important difference ES-1 OS and ES mk2 OS is that mk2 has mod delay instead of wah effect. And ES-1 OS had some glitch, which I don't know much about.I got OS updater at Yahoo Electribe Group. You have to join the group, in order to get the updater.
It was sold with preset samples and sequences, but once it is erased, it is gone, unless you copy the presets with Smart Media card. The factory samples were wack, I don't use them at all. This is sampling machine after all; users should sample their own.
Only the metal casing and the updated firmware / OS, but firmware for MK 2 can be applied to the ES-1. Mine has MK-2's firmware applied already. So, both are the exactly same, internally.
@Elektriber Yes, all the samples on this video clip were taken from my record collection. ES-1 is 16-bit sampler, but it is 32KHz, so it has a bit of lo-fi sound, but it is not that gritty in general.
Pitch/tempo can be adjusted using the dedicated knob. (There is no sample stretch function, by the way.) No, samples in ES-1 cannot be played in keyboard style. It could be done through Midi control though.
Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about getting either the ES-1 or the ESX. I really like the idea of the keyboard and arpeggiator on the ESX but it's more expensive. I'm still undecided. I'm digging your videos, btw.
@jvcforce What do you mean by "played in keyboard style"? Do you mean a sample can be triggered from the keyboard, or a single sample can be played across different keys (ie, allows you to play a melody from a bass synth sample)? Trying to play even a simple melody just using the pitch knob is ridiculous!
@HolidayInGuantanamo On ES-1 you can change sample's pitch only by the pitch knob (or, specify motion sequence on each step, which is very tedious process...) Playing a single sample across different keys not possible (or too complicated to do so. It can be done on ESX1 though.) I wouldn't try playing melody on ES-1.
@jvcforce Thanks. Some of the sample patterns give you the idea you can play melodies, but no indication of how little control you actually have. I'll either ditch the ES1 or get an EA1 for playing melodies. =)
It did come with preset samples, which are mostly wack. I deleted all of the samples that were come with it. I usually sample drums and phrases from vinyl records. I got DMX, Linndrum and 808 sounds, off from Internet. ES-1 sounds really good for triggering those classic drum machine sounds. I use SmartMedia card adapter to transfer WAV files from my Mac to ES-1.
I think you are referring to "Money (Dollar Bill Ya'll)", but I used Orange Krush sample. But, yes, they sound almost same. Both songs were produced by Russell. By the way, the "Money" joint, the beat is super dope, but the rap, not so much.

jvcforce, can the ES-1 tune the pitch of samples and/or play them in a keyboard style like the newer ESX?

Sick man, I am gonna definitely have to get myself one of these, is their factory drum stuff in it? or does it all have to be sampled?
