"It's beautiful, we can prove it but I don't understand it" famous quote Benjamin Pearce, math prof Princeton (then Y even teach). Why high math is difficult is because most teacher don't understand, most by rote. Sad state is it's more prevalent than u think. Imagine, at a time, only 3 people understood relativity (Einstein, Eddy, and.. hmm), so how come so many are teaching it!!!

so do u think he 1st use the lim(b^1+q - b)/b =b reduction to this (1+1/n)^n compound int. thingy before he used ur binomial expansion equation rather the leap of imagination of equating e^x to an arbitrary power series of cascading derivatives? See, from the old text, nobody knew how he arrived at the series of 1,1,.... but just gave the def.

In a book( where math comes from) it said that euler found the val of e by power series of e^x= 1+1+x+x^2/2!... blah blah. for knowing p-series has evry term a derivative of earlier term. Now, how he intuit to equate e^x to that sum of x ser. It pts out def u use really comes from lim (b^1+q-b)/q = b and algebraic --- to obtain b=lim(1+q)^1/q and ... .Wat hint he used to find val b4 the def ! btw,book from Lakoff very intrstng as it crit mthmtcns for using ttaulogy while giving some itself.
