I own a 1098r myself. 2008. I love it. I also own a S model but I admit the S is much easier to ride. I mean the gearing needs to be changed or something, its really just built for freeways and higher speed riding. Amazing!
gorgeous machine...I just got me an 07' 1098s with 1700 miles on it for 12k dollars cash. Rode it 900 miles one way to San Francisco and back in a week after having it for 10 days, and I cannot get off this thing. Such a beautiful bike and so much fun :)
Great video!
There are motorcylces, and then there are Ducati's.
nvm this oine has the cam belts. i had one that did. i had a paso with teh desmo valvetrain. love my ducs, but these are like 2 wheeled ferraris, gotta pay to play. not just in purchase cost, BUT in upkeep as well
Awesome bike man! I have a base model 1098 and I gotta say that the 1098r is G-spot of Ducati Superbikes. Its even better than the beastly heavy 1198. Its right on the money, perfect in every way.
I'm getting an 848 in May and I was wondering about the open dry clutch. I don't live in a particularly wet area, nor do I plan on riding in the rain anyways. I was hoping you could just tell me more about it and why you decided to go with it. Thanks!
@granit2006 They must be serviced by a good mechanic, a friend of mine in France has one of the first 916 with over 80.000 miles on it, it still runs great. But services are expensive.
Sweet machine mate. Just bought a 1098R Bayliss Edition today, with the same exhaust system as yours. I already have a Streetfighter S with Termi's but my new bike sounds alot sweeter, as you would already know.
@hybelkan1nen people hate them because they have to sell their left nut, just to buy sprockets for the damn bike... seriously $300 for the OEM rear sprocket $300 OEM chain too... these are parts you will have to replace every once and awhile
They use dry clutches to reduce weight and prevent power loss due to parts moving in a fluid, the less resistance/friction, the more power. And personally I love the sound of a dry clutch, but I'm also a little biased twoards the ducati :)
address to the ducati 1098r; there was an italian painter named Elio Carletti, and he once defined beauty as " The summation of parts working together in such a way that nothing needed to be altered, added or taken away" and thats you, you are beautiful Ducati 1098r....lol =-), great looking bike bro im wanting to get a ducati 1098r or possible the 1198s after college but right now im just going to stick with my 954rr
Seems like most of the ducati videos on youtube are of the bike idling with a loud exhaust and open dry clutch. Do people actually ride them? Just curious....
That is a legitimate observation...But not the case here. I am a rider, and this bike has thousands of miles on it already...I just also care for it meticulously, after its ritual weekend beatings.
I've got a 1098, but not an R :) It has a full termignoni exhaust, too, but the guy I bought it from had only put 2000 miles on it in over two years. You must be more like me, I put an additional 2000 in the two months I've owned it :) They're beautiful bikes, and sound fantastic, but they sound and look even better at speed. Glad to hear your R is being used properly!
thats so true dude, all videos on youtube are about ducatis idling and their dry clutch lol, i got a same bike, and i got 6300miles on it all ready. lol but i drive it with my earphones,
@vatoencabronado i've only seen one riding in my life...but then again everytime i see it, it's parked!! no owner!! i even hopped on to take a pic with it
this may not be the best audio quality...but the 1098R is possibly the most amazing audio you could get out of a bike...for a much better example search "Ducati 1098R Termignoni Exhaust Carbon Pipes sound" that vid has a bit better audio and you'll find yourself absolutely loving the v-twins after that...
Thanks mate - the vid you referred to is brilliant. Am currently deciding b/w Multistrada (obv w/ the Termis) and GSXR750. The MS is only Ducati that I can comfortably ride but I might just wait til I can afford two bikes and get the 1098 or its successor instead if it sounds this good!
Hmmmm, Maybe some of you don't understand the beauty of an 1198cc twin pounding through an open exhaust...That's too bad. Slipper clutch? Great idea, it's just that IT IS a dry, slipper Ducati Performance clutch, right from the factory. That's okay, it's my bike, not yours, and I love it.
No question it is a cool bike- just the dry clutch clank that I personally dont like. I might feel different if I actually had the opportunity to feel that twin pounding as you suggest. Be safe.
@genkster3600 Yea its always "I could buy 25 so and soes for the price of a Desmosedeci" Its weird too how you never see a Ducati owner writing shit on a gxxer, r1, cbr, etc video.
dude... make that bike sound like a real sport bike. so nice looking bike for such a lame sound... =( im guessing the engine is in V that's why u get the ugly sound?
I own a 1098r myself. 2008. I love it. I also own a S model but I admit the S is much easier to ride. I mean the gearing needs to be changed or something, its really just built for freeways and higher speed riding. Amazing!

@MonopostoDucati so is it possible if you the two pipes on a 1098 or 1198 merge into one?
it wouldn't make sense if you added the ones on the bottom since this is only a vtwin.
do you work for ducati?
hereHehereHE 11 months ago
is it possible to have one fat pipe instead of 2 like the gp10?
i know the gp10 has the exhaust on the bottom to but thats a 4 cylinder anyone know?
