Yes, I would. It's true that they have a lot of quality control issues, but it's a beautiful, smooth running, great sounding, extremely hard pulling locomotive.

would recommend this engine eventhough I've heard a lot of horror stories about it?

The stories being bad smoke unit, slipping gears, etc

Yes, I'll get a video of it with the smoke going eventually. I have only used the smoke once because it smells bad and I'm worried about what it might do to the paint from repeated use, but it does look pretty good.
