ffxii is a weird game, it grows on you. but once youve played it a while and you get the overall feel of the game it is great. people shouldnt be so pessimistic.
btw, I think Square wanted a battle system with a little more flare to it, like in XIII. The game is badass, but it does play a little like an MMO too much at times, meaning you are just hacking at shit and getting swarmed by enemies in real-time. XIII wasn't complete shit; it was fun to play but just too linear if you're coming off of XII. They can do better, and I think they will. Japanese game designers tend to listen to mixed reviews, so I think the next one will be awesome.
Since you mentioned it, I popped it in just to check mine: 789hr.33min. And in all that time, you know what the only treasure I haven't gotten is? A damn Salamand Halcyon used to make the Acturas rifle. I let that bastard re-spawn, re-spawn and spawn some more, was on it for hours just doing this, had a chain at around 300+ and I still couldn't steal it or make him drop it. There's a video of someone getting one in no time. That pissed me off so bad I wanted to break the screen.
Seriously need more Ivalice Alliance games. I remember Playing ff tactics when it came out and being infatuated with the world, even though it was a GBA game, it was insanely imaginative. Then THIS baby came out and everything from fftactics came to life in a completely awesome way. I Fckin LOVE IVALICE. Vaan's a massive knob though lololol. viera's are mad hot! what?

@raventamer99 I completely agree with you, it had the most replay value and still does! i'm over 1000 hours in and there are endless things to do, you could farm treasures for days on end. I still don't understand why squre decided to take out that battle system, to me it felt like a huge upgrade from the other FFs, and the free roaming was amazing.

Just cause something isn't super hyped up doesn't mean it's bad. They tried something new with this game. It had beautiful graphics, but I disliked the music in that one, and having a linear game style with no exploration, and constantly changing characters gets boring and very annoying. @Aureon09 your welcome to your opinion, i wont complain. but personally i never found a single catchy tune in it, all of it kinda put me to sleep after a while it was that boring/not worth listening to.bad enough scenery was dull it didnt need music to match it, this game gains an achievment"king of dullness" for 10000 points for not having a single ounce of anything fun in it, not even the summons are fun. i found the main theme and fanfare to be a jumbled mess to be honest.
@KayTheYatagarasu in my opinion, FFXII was the second best in the series, even if it has a completely different battle system to usual. Of course, the best one was VII, as everyone knows. But I actually really like the 'open-world' combat in 12. Reminds me of playing mmos, which makes sense because the combat in 12 was based on 11.

The best way to do Yiamzat is to equip Yagyu darkblades with the boots that keep haste on the character, put the genji gloves on your Tournesol character and keeps him zerked, hasted, and Brave. Farm elixers.
As immensly badass as this song is, try listening to it for about three hours straight. The hardest boss in FF12 was the final mark hunt, Yiazmet, and you fought him to this theme. With over 60,000,000 HP(look it up) he sums this song up the best in my opinion.
@paddyli28c either way, since you bring it up, the one thing about FF12 that had me scratching the old noggin, was why they left out the ''Break Damage Limit'' from FFX, where you went WAY past 9999 damage, hitting for a max of 99,999? It's like the developers wanted you to learn how to chop down a redwood who's branches slap you back.
@sinshenlong yeah, the quickenings do break the damage barrier, but they also exhaust your MP, and every second counts in a fight like the one with Yiazmet, where he occationally gets in a cheap shot. I was talking about your weapons, like the Tournesol or Danjuro. Both are a pain in the ass to get, look cool, but are still stuck doing 9999 at a time.
I love ffxii so much and it was one of the best games I've played so far. Only thing that I didn't like is that the last part of the game seems so cheesy and predictable . Compare to ffvii, ffviii, and ffix.

What I liked about this game is its difficulty, lots of places to explore, hunts, Espers, voice acting for all characters( even Vann ) gameplay, the story was decent and the music was awesome. I wish my ps2 was still playable.

I agree with you. While the story started to get a little bland at the half-way mark, the best thing they ever did was do away with the stop-start nature of the battles. Because of that alone, it is one of my favourite Final Fantasy games.

I loved how this game had nothing to so with a sappy love story like all the others. It was about political ideology, and nationalism, looked through a Final Fantasy lens.

But there a lot of elements in the story that have little to do with star wars. For instance, Drace's fate discusses the conflict between judicial duty and necessity. The legislative senate has already been dissolved, only the judges remain.
FF12 was perhaps the best written FF in all of FF history. The character art may have been a big change from 10, but story wise, the content was strong.
Story was a pale copy of star wars... sorry to tell you date but a young blong guy living in desert, finding a thief with a kind of creature as a partner, findind a hidden princess in the rebellion army, with a judge saying "I'm your father" and so on.... it's star wars... so yes the story line is good... for people who have not watched star wars.

Lol i was so happy when i saw Vaan again in FF Dissidia 01 on PSP :D But FFXII was the best i played it on PS2 everyday it would be awesome if on FFXIV the same FFXII would continue so i would be able to play it on my Xbox 360 or PS3 :D

@Lontra139 Yes, you are right, there are different battle themes in fact, and 2 of them are really similar, but don't end the same way. Personnaly, I prefer "ESPER BATTLE THEME" : E P I C !!!!!!!!!

What I liked about this game is its difficulty, lots of places to explore, hunts, Espers, voice acting for all characters( even Vann ) gameplay, the story was decent and the music was awesome. I wish my ps2 was still playable.

I agree with you. While the story started to get a little bland at the half-way mark, the best thing they ever did was do away with the stop-start nature of the battles. Because of that alone, it is one of my favourite Final Fantasy games.

God this game was SO LONG! I didn't even beat it until right before FFXIII came out. Fucking Vayne Solidor was TOO damn hard. I had EVERYONE at level 99, all gambits ... techniques ... magick ... best weapons and armor ... all items were at 99 ... STILL kicked my ass. Fucking bastard.
Oh well, at least he wasn't as hard a Sephiroth was.

@shiloushilou A lot of elements are essentially star wars. Strahl is the millennium falcon. Fran is a sexy chewbacca with lines. You even get desert munchkins. But there are other elements that help carry the story. You have Greek Mythology, Peloponnesian war, Industrial revolution, etc. The star wars element could be entirely removed, and the story would be great simply because the audience is forced to think about the issues being introduced.

I loved how this game had nothing to so with a sappy love story like all the others. It was about political ideology, and nationalism, looked through a Final Fantasy lens.

But there a lot of elements in the story that have little to do with star wars. For instance, Drace's fate discusses the conflict between judicial duty and necessity. The legislative senate has already been dissolved, only the judges remain.

Story was a pale copy of star wars... sorry to tell you date but a young blong guy living in desert, finding a thief with a kind of creature as a partner, findind a hidden princess in the rebellion army, with a judge saying "I'm your father" and so on.... it's star wars... so yes the story line is good... for people who have not watched star wars.
