He is one my All time favorite actors. He was also very good in Less than Zero, Ally McBeal(tv show from the 90's) and The man can sing too! Beautiful, Beautiful Voice! If you haven't haad an opportunity to listen to him sing, please do so. He is just a well rounded entertainer! He makes my top 3 list of my favorite actors next to Benicio and Johnny D.

The movie I saw with him as the leading man first was Chaplin, cause Chaplin is one of my greatest idols since college. It was my first year when I've had to write an essay about one of his films (and him) so I decided to watch the biopic. And it was stupendous! Robert Downey Jr. was totally Chaplin. From then he is and will be forever my 'greatest most favoritest' actor. There is no word how amazing he is.

Robert Downey Jr is not acting in his movies, he's merely being himself in front of the camera. i met him once in London's Regent Street and asked him if he finds it easy to portray his characters so well and that was his response. great genuine guy as he spoke to a complete stranger for about 10 minutes (ME) about his life in movies. i would love to meet him again but i think on intoduction he'd say "hi pleased to meet you" lol

He was being modest. As we all know, all artists tend to be hard on their own work. Just because his own personality shines through in the characters he portrays, doesn't mean he's not a great actor.

I agree, but if you asked him there and then if he thinks of himself as a great actor he wouldn't claim he was a bad actor. There was no chest puffed out nor was there any cowering away from his acting capabilities . Like i say just a genuine good bloke. not every actor has a past of crime and serious drug abuse on top of considerable jail time so you cant really compare him to "all actors" so to be completely honest your comment is obsolete.
