@xo0zz 3 meters sounds like a lot and for RL it would be, but in game terms that is point blank range. For example the actual knife range in MW2 is about 2 meter, with commando it's 4. And that's without lag or glitches. Just saying...

@mannonc This is not MW2. There is no commando, and for someone to knife at that range is BS. But hey, I'm over it, I think I've bugged and got some kills like this, and then sometimes I can't knife at all while reloading. Bugs are bugs.

@Fireman58FD Nor did I say it was MW2, but aside from the removal of commando, knife range has not changed. Lag and glitches aside, It is still about 2 meters... not feet, meters, no BS. That's a seriously long knife, but that's just how it works. Add on top of that lag, and glitches, and theater mode mis-timings, and you get some pretty wacky results.

Also a lag switch is a homemade device that its hooked up to one wire in the ethernet cable. When the switch is activated there is a quick connection loss, and then it comes back. Its like being invincible for a second. Thats why the tomahawk didn't kill him. Its a cheater tool for video games like a modded controller would be.

@ixiunidotixi Theater mode is where a server records all the information and stores it on the server. No single person's system records it. There is an occasional knife lunge bug that ignores range.

@Fireman58FD I know what theater mode is and what servers are. And I know very well how they both work. But this, this is a lag switch. When the lag switch is activated its a split second of disconnection allowing the player a few footsteps b4 he connects back. Making it look like he is lunging out. Watch how the tomahawk gose threw him. If he was connected he would of been dead. And since the server lost and regain the connection so fast it looks like TGS is lunging out at Wolf.

I will say, however... I've never liked knifing in CoD. It has far too much range and doesn't work well with lag. Two people with guns pointed right at each other in a room should have a gunfight, not skip the guns to have a knife fight WTF is with that? It should be a backup and stealth kill weapon, not the button you absolutely must press in close quarters or die. That just turns CQC into one of those button mashing sequences from Japanese games... *groans*

@mannonc True, but melee is one of those things that have been added to shooters for quick sprints around a corner and you are literally face to face. Also, in this case we both ran out of ammo which is why he knifed... how he knifed, was completely ridiculous.

To me it looks like the guy lunged at your teammate and like launched off the couch or something which I know is ridiculous.

Maybe there is some other factor going into these knives other than just the pre-set range that's causing these crazy lunges. My first thought is always latency but who knows...

@GrandUpper Why? I just find it amusing. Knifing doesn't make anybody good, it's a 1 button 1 hit kill. Knife fights just come down to timing and luck. As for benefit... actually whenever this happens the target was in knife lunge range on the knifer's screen at least, so it's not actually boosting their knife range it just looks like it due to timing. Basically if you see a player coming at you, he's already much closer on his end.

Is this before or after the patch? Either way you should make a post on the forums and link this video in it. You covered all the angles so it's pretty good and shows what is/was wrong with the knife.

@starstruckstarfuck This is not lag, I've watched where I have lagged in theater mode, and I stand still. I was burst firing my weapon. Also theater mode games are saved to a server, this is why you can watch the portion of a match before you actually joined it. Lag shows through very easily in theater.

@Fireman58FD It's still lag. Lag does more than just make avatars stand still or jerk around. It also throws off the timing of everything. Everything happens at a different time on the Host than it does for you, and yet a later time for everyone else. This also throws off when and where knife lunges start and end, and there simply is no way to recompile an accurate picture of what really happened because there are usually at least three relevant versions, (his, yours, host's).
