2 weeks ago on Thanksgiving my family and I dug the SNES out of the attic and hooked this up to the 7.2 system and we played all night in 65" of plasma glory.
I can tell you that this youtube video gives the audio NO JUSTICE.
I'm serious, you'll be amazed at how good the midi sound is on a good system. Youtube is great for reminding you of nostalgia, but you need to go and relive it for yourself, not through somebody else's video.
The only other SNES intro i can think of that can match this one in terms of epicness is Gradius III (it is also the only other SNES shoot em up i can think of that matches U.N. Squadron in audio, visuals, gameplay, and nearly everything else as well). U.N. Squadron and Gradius III may just be the two best shoot em ups i own on ANY system.
P.S. Is anyone else really depressed that they never completed the Area 88 manga in America? I need to learn Japanese now if i ever want to know the ending.
@evilwarcow Actually, Capcom later released an arcade game titled Carrier Air Wing, which is considered to be a spiritual successor/unofficial sequel to U.N. Squadron. Still, i think that someone should really remake U.N. Squadron in the style of the recent Ace Combat games.
This was especially impressive back in 1991. I was a Sega Fanboy and didn't want to admit it but the Super NES was truly a superior console to the Sega Genesis in terms of audio and visuals.
What great opening music- pure nostalgia.. almost brought a tear to my eye. For a moment, I was sixteen again, the rousing guitar chords and whistling jet engine making my heart race..
This is NOT a rip off of Area 88....it IS Area 88 under a different title, stop trying to be a smart arse like you ever did watch the anime before you was aware of this UN squadron/area 88 game!! I have been into anime since the early 90's and i had the game since launch, and i didnt know it was a game of an actual cartoon,(i didnt find out till around 2007 and it was a real cool supprise!)
Lol I like this game bring back memories of old skewl action gaming... I LOVE the sounds of the music and some of the effect plus the stallion on the start screen!

This song wakes me up EVERY morning.
Why?
Because it's the song of victories to come.
Let's get 'em.

Before there was a game, there was an OVA trilogy series that came out back in the heart of the 80s. It's a classic. And so is this game.

@evilwarcow There WAS, it's a sequal called Carrier Air Wing, and is a second part to U.N. Squadron.

a good video is Pure Jet Engine Afterburner Sound "Without Music"
mute this video first^^
start it at 0:19, puase and when the point in the UNS video where the jet revs up, turn on the other video by rasing the volume
KWEKOSHKUKI12 2 years ago
right before the jet fires up, find a vid showing a plane firing it engines WITH SOUND and over play it thru the UN vid
