I thought the Road Runner from Looney Tunes cartoons at 0:49 was your joke, then I found out I have it on my cd reissue too, no informations about that in the booklet but it seems the band liked to do funny things with their songs (even if producers didn't let the band release them on record) ...quite strange though... :))
Did the Rolling Stones take it from these guys? I'm sure most people would not think so but it seems these guys had the song first as I highly doubt they would copy the Rolling Stones back in 66 and come up with a pure version like this one.... It would be interesting to find out the fact and not people's opinions. Objectively speaking, Rolling Stones did a better job singing it, but that doesn't mean they did not take it from the Deep Six.
@revolution1940 Thanks, but do you know for sure? If you listen again to the song, it has some details which are hard to imagine copying would come up with.. Like the "hey hey hey" and the car beep at 0:49.. btw, I agree I think they definitely did a fantastic job although the recording could have been enhanced.
@Touficast the "hey hey hey, and car sound" are added in. That is not from The Stones. Deep Six changed it up a bit. But I'm 110% sure its a Rolling Stones song :)
@kinderkake have u been drinking heavily? this was written by richards/jagger. how can the stones cover the animals when the animals did it in 1967? anyone who knows music knows the original was the stones in 66
@jgsjapo1 Roadrunner, LOL! All kidding aside, it's great that others remember the Deep Six. I first heard the Rising Sun back in 1965 and it's shelf life on our local AM pop station was too short.
This may be one of the best examples of an over managed group ever. Managers Denny Bond and Kenny Mansfield (Beatles) had two great writers in the group in Don Dunn and Dan Lottermoser and ignored their work to go with crap written by Dave Gray. I mean give me a break, "What would you wish from the Golden Fish?'
Thanks for posting this. I heard this album in '76 and fell in love. Haven't seen it since, but I've been thinking about getting the CD on Amazon. Hearing/Seeing it has verified that it was as good as I remember.
Cool! I first came into contact with this band when I found a copy of their "What Would You Wish from the Golden Fish" 45, and then I found the album. I also have the Rev-Ola CD. My favorite cover on the album is actually "Solitary Man"--great vocals on that one. My other fave songs from the band are "Rising Sun" (their almost-hit) and the aformentioned "Golden Fish."
Yeah I really like 'Solitary Man', they did an awesome cover of that. I made the 'Paint it Black' video, because I knew people would be able to find this great band by searching that song. Thanks for the comment!
surprenant .

Jagger and Richards (and possibly Wyman and Jones) wrote the song so it's doubtful that Deep Six recorded it first.

The lead was done by Don Dunn not Dave Gray. I knew these characters long before they moved to LA from San Diego.
