My shi tzu hated the water at first too. Just carry them until the water is by your knees and they will naturally swim. Keep doing it until theyre comfortable enough to know youre not gonna leave them in there by themselves. Soon theyll swim on their own :)

@TottallyRule like all puppies...patience, patience, patience. actually, shih tzus need more patience as they tend to be stubborn and want to do things their own way. however, no dog is more affectionate. enjoy your new fur baby!

i've had dozens of puppies of different breeds, and yes they are just like any other puppy, but once they get older their fur grows out of control and they must be groomed/maintained every couple of weeks.. just keep that in mind, but they are loads of fun :)

@TottallyRule puppies take patience and love, how do i know cause i have a shih tzu myself and make sure you take your puppy on walks. Training may be difficult but it pays off. Be sure to feed it a healthy puppy chow brand and if you follow these rules you may have a friend for life.

mine really can't swim even if she wanted to because back then I though that all dogs can swim so I was holding her little tummie lol and then it look like she wanted me to let her go and she sunk to the bottom and kept kicking but didn't float so I had to go under water and get her she almost gave me a heart attack so I really don't think she can swim but we got I little pool for her only like 9 inches deep lol

@dpuppydog yes u can. mine was not fully grown and didnt have medical problems and was a purebread. but then again he was only in the pound for a day but hey u never know. u can look them on online. u should get it in Humane Society. your first visit to the vet by the way is free when u get it from there. but it has to be a certain vet that they tell u. i forgot. anyhow PLEASE do save one. they all deserve to be loved. if u dont save one from the pound or something, its your decission anyway :)

and he saw his golden retriever friend who was swimming so he chased after them. My dad ran into the water after him cause we were afraid he'd drown. But he actually swam...but now he hates taking baths xD I don't think it was because of that experience.
