  • Hail to the big cams!!!! Sounds awesome!!! It's a shame that nothing they make sound like that anymore, let alone an engine that size being able to do 2,400 RPM!!

  • We had a kw with a 290 Cummins one time,it was jigged timmed and i forget what all.It would crank up and rev up and down till warm and it sounded like a drag car.People would say its not a 290,wed say look at plate on motor people couldent beleave it.It would shoot raw fuel out exhaust piped the motor was so hot.The 290 finnall got a hole in the liner and got a new 400 cummins

  • you have anymore videos of this truck?

  • i love that whine of the cumms that means power

  • yea when a diesel has been settin it will usually blow white smoke for a little bit when started but then when it starts pulling it stops

  • those big cam 3's have a nice turbo whine to them. i have one in a 71 kenworth they sound sweet.

  • that signature knock you can really tell thats a cummins

  • Love that turbo whistle.

  • Peterbilt is the king of the road :D

  • Pieace a shit my ass..Dats an beauty

  • Nice truck buddy

  • さすが2サイクル。。。よく回りますなァ

  • @dgagnerox You have no idea how long this has been sitting have you? When you get on the road it will stop smoking. Also newer injectors cleans the smoke up a bit when started cold.

  • @dgagnerox that's typical for an older "big cam" Cummins engine. you must not know much about these engines?

  • @tfxbillet It might be typical for a big cam if anything though there should be more black smoke if the engine is that cold. As a matter of fact the last 444 with stc on it that I set up was literally shooting chunks of soot out of it after the valve set. Maybe you should try a valve and injector set then try a smmaller oct size button, then you might be able to stay a few less miles behind a signature 600.

  • @dgagnerox if it were unburned it would be black.

  • @dgagnerox Before you go trash talking take a close look at the exhaust coming out. Notice it is by far mostly white. These trucks have a lot of exhaust pipe for water to condense in that "smoke" you see is actually water vapor evaporating. All internal combustion engine do this if water condenses in the exhaust.

  • @wolfgangiceclaw wow Thats quite the theroey. I always thought the greyish smoke was unburned fuel from having cold piston and liner. But you go with that buddy.

  • @wolfgangiceclaw

No, its oil & fuel. The old big cam motors where build loose, when cold they smoke. when they get warmed up the are fine...

  • @o56kid Okay my mistake guess I just got a little mad as someone trash talking a Cummins. I had a KW W900 with a N-14 525HP I loved that truck.

  • @wolfgangiceclaw

Its all good. Your explination is also fees-able, but these old big cam motors are just real smokers when cold...

  • @dgagnerox hey dick weed thats a 400 and they will hang with them all

  • @sledtugger lol ok man. yeah its a 400. stop replying to this its annoying.

  • @dgagnerox oh come on. I've seen a lot of old trucks still running around my neighborhood and they sound awesome. I see that paul marshal's business is half gone. I did look at these trucks at boyle's motor sales and they were a brown peterbilt 351 day cab with corvette dash and a 10 speed. I have also seen a Peterbilt 377 with 18 speed, Peterbilt 377 flat top heavy haul with 9 speed, Peterbilt 359 extended hood with 15 speed and corvette dash, and a Peterbilt 379 day cab with 13 speed.

  • detroits are waaaaaaaay better diesels!!!

  • yeah so a 400 big cam cummins was a good motor but revving the shit outta them when they are cold was a really good way to throw a rod through the block

  • @dallas82000 The motor was warmed up enough to rev it, this thing just smokes until you get it on the road lol.

  • @Hotrodx199 ur retarded u said it was warmed up obv not becasue the air pressure warning is going off and that meas the air wasnt even up past 60 pounds ur retarded. mess up a good ol pete y dont u

  • @ryanstrainis You're so fucking ignorant. The air buzzer went off BECAUSE IT HAD A LEAK IN THE LINES OR THE TANK. It took at least 30 minutes to get air up.

  • @dallas82000 400 Cummins' always smoke like that no matter how warm they are.

  • Sounds almost like a Neon SRT-4 turbo hissing.

  • the 400s where sloppy untill they warmed up. Iv seen ones that smoke themselves completely out when they are first started on a cold morning, not so when they are good Y warm...

  • Is it me, or are people really retarded...? Everyone is a damn know-it-all...

White smoke doesnt always mean a blown head, or massive engine issues. How about a cold motor, cold pistons/ cyl. wall. And hot exhaust gases hitting colder air.

My B model cat smokes white like a bitch when shes cold. And wont stop till it gets around 100-125 degrees. And she runs like a top. Gets over 6 mpg, pulls around 100K + lbs every day. Not a damn thing wrong with it other than the yellow paint is faded.

  • @MnTrucker1984

    That's youtube for you.

  • @MnTrucker1984 sorry, people really are retarded, i dont bother arguing the point unless theres enough non retards around which is getting rare.

  • @MnTrucker1984 `You are correct. Only blue or black smoke can determine something might be wrong

  • @MnTrucker1984 i got the same engine 425 b model cat and yeah white smoke until above 150 degrees nothin wrong with it according to the blood test

  • @MnTrucker1984 oh no white smoke means that there air getting into to oil tank and its bypassing the primary kph valve and blocking the black smoke , therefore only leaving white smoke... dont y'all all feel stupid now?

  • @MnTrucker1984 HELL YES !!!!!!!

  • HAHA Wow some people just dont under stand pld trucks. probably some guy with a hot rod diesel pickup... welcome to real diesel motors buddy. Hats off to the off to an old 359 got an 89' 379 myself keep them old dogs runnin my friend!

  • WHIT SMOKE IN A DIESEL IS BAD MAN

  • No it's not.. White smoke is usually cold cylinder temps, these do not use pre-heaters such as intake grid heaters or glow plugs. It also comes from Hot injection pumps.

  • WONG? You sound like you're from China. And don't tell me "Wrong" when we own this truck. We know how well this 60,000 mile motor runs, you don't. Ever heard the term don't judge a book by its cover?

  • You're not worth trouble, you pretend you are dank and mr know it all.

  • @TheDavidpayne Dude.. learn how to spell lol

  • @TheDavidpayne Dude learn how to spell because when you try to insult people it just makes you look like a dumbass.

  • I know a guy whos detroit serie 60 was revving 3500.. Its a race truck, and his other motor he had a 8v92, twin or 3 turbos, no1 is shure he never told me too..He was running propane and nos, went with a ride, and beleive it or not, 4200RPM. lol

  • @detroitPOWER Actually, this motor will free rev to 2600, it stops fueling at 2400 while driving.

  • doesn't need that high rpm to make lots of torque.

  • That's the wrong color smoke coming out those stacks brother. Dam sure shouldn't be flooding white smoke like that, it's burning oil like hell.

  • It's just cold cylinder temps.

  • hahaha oil dont burn white man

  • You're kidding right? Oil smoke when it's seeping by the rings does burn white, with a blueish tint. When you stomp a diesel engine, the fuel burns black, except when you have engine oil blowing by, it's white.

  • I dont give a damn what you do to it oil will not burn white theres 3 things that will burn white thats olive oil transmission fluid in your fuel and cold air outside

  • Yea I had an olive oil problem in my engine too, burned white as a ghost. But on the upside I had some vinegar in the cab so I never had a problem trying to find oil and vinegar for my salads.

  • hahaha the old man done it when he was young to make everybody mad have you ever herd of people putting transmission fluid in the fuel to clean the injection system out lol

  • we have a big cam400 in our ford LTL9000.

  • hummin' cummins'!!

  • sounds lame better change the torque spring and a few shims and maby some timing you need more rpms cause its not set up right

  • saw a peterbilt on showusyourtruck with 14inch looked horrible 8 inch is the best

  • Is there a website i can see to view the truck with the 14 inch stacks?

  • never mind found the site. Do you know what catagory/month the picture was in?

  • Big cam cummins all had that big turbo on them,The air compressors all had that same distinct ratte. I passed alot of 425 cats with my big cam of course it was turning about 2450 with a real heavy high speed spring. Back in the day we didnt worry about smoke or getting 4mpg.You could also take that high speed cover off and shim the spring with quarters .

  • I want big stacks for these. We were thinking 6" miter cuts. 4" would look small and i wouldn't like the tone much.

  • or 10"s

  • 7" 14' flattops are better. 10" are way to damn big looking. They only look good if you have a REALLY big truck, this aint a big truck.

  • oh. ok. sorry, i dont know much about trucks.

  • It's fine, lol.

  • Well now that the truck is ours we will build temp 5" straight pipes and eventually get 6" miter cut stacks for it.

  • タービン音がシビレるね!

  • That's no big deal. You want to make that thing go? Get the torque spring for a NTA 420, that is a small cam made back in the early 70S. It will wind way farther than you would want to take, but the added HP you will not believe.

  • my dad has the same exact truck exept the sleeper is gone due to a jacknife and we got 8 inch straights on it loud as hell sounds like a cannon going off when we hit the jake under the bridges in austin

  • Man I'd like to buy that old truck,, what you take for it?

  • Well it's not for sale. It used to be a friend of ours that recently passed away with cancer. We decided to put farm plates on it and remove the sleeper and the stupid square lights and put autocar lights on and some straight pipes

  • I like the color of the truck.

  • You are tearing the truck up retard revving it up that much..... a fool in a truck won't last long!

    Ten four

    Drivvvaaaaaaaaa

  • I think it's been fixed up so it can handle that many rpms already. Besides that how often does a trucker shift at 2100? Same thing for here, we wouldn't run it at 2400 rpms anyway unless we were on a hill which thats the reason this is set at 2400.

  • THATS A NICE PETERBILT BUDDY

  • Thank you!

  • whats the point use the tourque of the engine constant use of 2400 is not what it was designed for!!!!!

  • sibole il est courageu moi je monte le rpm 1500 tour minute mais je fait juste 1er 2 ime et 3 ime lool mais a 2400 tour il faut vouloir

  • NIIICE PETE! she sounds good for an oldie

  • I LOVE that turbo whistle in the morning!:D

  • be careful .the big cam is goberned to 2100 rpm and passing the limit of 2100 is already suffering a major engine wear, thereby accelerating too can break the crankshaft and connecting rods

  • Nice this Big Cam 3 has a load turbo.

  • Well if we fixed the rusted y pipe you wouldn't hear it as much. I mean you will still hear it but not as much.

  • Or, to keep the 2100 rpm governed speed intact, this 9-speed tranny could have an overdrive 9th.

  • Well the only reason it's set at 2400 is so you can climb hills better and to pick up a gear and go a little faster. Top speed is about 75-80 mph with the 3:55 rears.

  • Awesome, get a driving vid of that beast if you can :D

  • nice and you sure got the whistle

  • Awsome!! Love the older trucks!! 5 stars!
