  • will it sound like this through a solid state?

  • wow

  • did you meant epic fail solo?

  • I have a line6 spider V amp and this pedal...final resulit of sound --> shit.why?

  • @Hellraiser7string spider amps sound terrible... get a nice tube amp or at least a peavey bandit if you want a good amp to use pedals with.

  • @Hellraiser7string Omfg, same,i'm using spider III it has really pissed me off.Works better on valve amps

  • can i replace any ecc83/12ax7 tubes on the pedal?

  • should i buy one of these or a new amp? i have a line 6 spider4.

  • @gymnasticowl new amp

  • what amp was used for this?

  • I think buy a Blackstar HTDistx (my amp: VoxAC15) Is this a good choice? or should I turn to the dist HT or Dual?

  • 2:41 SLAYER...

  • thumbs up the slayer riff

  • WAR FOR TERRITORY!

  • SEPULTURAAAA !!!! \m/

  • Hi, I'm in a Mastadon/Baroness ish sounding metal band, and I'm looking for a distortion pedal that will have big beefy low end but will still be crisp enough to not get muddy when I'm playing something faster and really loud. I'm currently playing with a Big Muff but it gets too muddy. How would this pedal sound going through my B-52 half stack? Thanks :]

  • sorry, that song is the only plays in the epic? 4:23

  • South of Heaven is a nice surprise.

  • sounds like Dimmu Borgir at the start

  • wow the strat sounded amazing with this pedal but the les paul really sounded much better due to its humbuckers

  • curious how that would sound with a epiphone iommi g-400

  • @mamealer fantastic. but not very sabbath like. good nevertheless

  • @mamealer

it would sound like the LP.

  • WAR FOR TERRITORYYYYYY!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This pedal is great but can you set it to sound a bit tighter? Like Alexi Laiho's tone on the album Are You Dead Yet or something?

  • 2:58

"An unforeseen future nestled somewhere in time

    Unsuspecting vict..."

    Sorry, its too catchy

  • thankyou for this review. way too many people use high gain pedals and amps and do reviews where they play classic rock and crap. thankyou for understanding that high gain is made for metal!!

  • SEPULTURA,.......!!!!!!!

  • really want one, need job.

  • Thumbs up for BYOB for System Of A Down!

  • Love your guys gear reviews.....your page is my "go to" when I wanna check something out due to the completeness of your review and lack of self- serving wanking, you go through and show how the gear serves for rhythm and leads, single coils and humbuckers, and different styles, and know annoying pick on the string sounds, A+ sound quality, big kudos from a 20 year guitar veteran. Oh and this pedal kicks ass too.

  • @jsuffers - Thanks for the props! We appreciate your patronage.

    -PGS Video Crew

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Hey guys, do you think that my Roland Micro Cube on the clean channel would be able to handle this pedal? Cheers.

  • what's the song from 1:40 to 2:30 ?

  • They're so expensive :(

  • @gnrcr their worth it :)

  • i have mxr fullbore metal, the tone sucks, but it has soo much gain most pedals are dissapointing and dont measure up to that amount of dstortion, but this Blackstar HT DISTX has really impressed me. i love this pedal now and am getin it tomorrow. thanks for the review!

  • I am considering to buy one. What do you guys think, should I? Found one for 90 Euros.

  • @Darmorgaut dude buy it

they are like over 250 euros!!!

  • the intro riff is from what song ?

  • @tibi1687 It's Territory by Sepultura! it's brazilian just like me!

  • What's the riff around 02:00 from?

  • Wow....sounds like its worth every penny

  • epic by faith no more :D

  • obscene amounts of gain

  • I bet Andy didnt even use a pick to nail that BYOB riff.

  • FAITH NO MORE!

  • @xhezpu YOU WANT IT ALL BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!!! Epic, such a great song! I love epic! XD

  • This pedal is sooo awesome in your room or for recordings, but it's gotta a lot of compression (the tube contributes to that) which makes it a bit more difficult in band situations.. You have to make it go reallyyyyy loud to stand out. At least, that's my experience.

  • kinda funny sound exactly like my ht stage 60 with no pedals whatsoever

  • @FirePower3006 O_O I was looking for a pedal that could pull that off! (technically the club 40, but i'm pretty sure they're the same) THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT

  • you know, it's nice to hear someone playing metal through a distortion pedal. so many jerks insist on using distortion pedals to play wanky solos but never for beefy riffs...

  • Thumbs up for Sepultura song at the beginning!

  • @dsoaresjunior

Makes me proud to be a Brazilian! :)

    Awesome pedal too!

  • TERRITORY!!!

  • Blackstar HT-DISTX or Blackstar HT-DUAL?!

  • Is this good for death metal?

  • @horusoftheblackflame DEPENDS. If you're looking for the primitive "buzzsaw" tone of early swedish death metal, you may consider buying a BOSS HM-2 HEAVY METAL instead. But If you want a more modern "gothemburg" sound, this pedal will definitely do the trick.

  • @DJCalligula Modern all the way. But as far as the early swedish death goes, will an MT-2 also achieve it

  • @horusoftheblackflame

I have this pedal, and at times i love it, but it is SH*T for scooped, modern death, because it had a lot of mid, no matter how much you try dial it out. Also its VERY noisy at times.

Also, the gain, once you get to about 7, doesn't seem to get any more distorted.

  • its massive in size, like 2 pedals worth, so i would probs get the HT dual for the fact it has 2 functions and i wouldn't feel so bad about taking up pedal board space.

  • Do we need a noise gate for this pedal? :P

  • @ArXiDoSpAsT1S Maybe.

  • ironically slayer doesn't scoop his mids .

  • It's real flubby. Are you using the neck pickup for this demo?

  • If I plugged my guitar into this pedal, and the pedal straight into my amp, would it cause feedback/hum/noise?

  • what song is he playing at 3:50? it sounds oddly familiar

  • @muzicboy99 system of a down-b.y.o.b

  • @muzicboy99 system of a down - b.y.o.b

  • TERRITORIIIIEEE //-.-\\ \m/

  • Andy's not shown playing in this one due to excessive demonic facial expressions!

  • This is a great pedal! Thanks for all the great demos Proguitarshop

  • i hate how all blackstar pedals look exactlly the damn same x.x

  • WAR FOR TERRITORYYYYYYYYYYY

  • the pedal gave that strat in byob some BALLS!

  • BEFORE YOU SEE THE LIGHT YOU MUST DDDDDDDDDDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

    thanks for da slayer.

  • I'm surprised it's so loose. I thought run into a clean amp, it'd be real tight. It's super flubby and the playing is sloppy which doesn't help.

  • cool cooooool vid..... coool

  • Do we need a noise gate for high gain setting in this?

  • 16 Volt AC? fuck!

  • Does it boost significantly more than a transistor pedal?

  • WAR FOR TERRITORAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

  • can this thing do any other stuff like blues or rock? im kinda in a band with metal-ers but i play blues and stuff... :/ cheers

  • @Lespaulcoolio check the ht-overdrive.

  • sounds like heaven

  • BRIT-MEXICAN DISTORTION.xp

  • @greeggytheeggy good eyes it says Brit-Merican since the ISF gives British and American tones

  • This video just sold me on this pedal around the 1:50 mark.

  • Sounds sludgy like a Mesa recto. That's cool for that dark, flubby tone. I did like the 5 watt amp clips, it sounded tighter a little bit more Marshall sounding which I'm more into.

  • finally a good distortion pedal that dont sound like 10 watt practise amp.

  • Finally I've got it and it's just unbelievably amazing!

  • hehe at 3:40 SOAD - BYOB :) nice one

  • Do i need a noise gate to run it in high gain?

  • @ArXiDoSpAsT1S Not in my experiences with it. I use it with a Fender Mustang, Jaguars, and a Strat and no gain problems or major hum.

  • "EPIC SOLO!" WOOHOOO!

  • Nice playing SEPULTURA - TERRITORY....

    Awesome pedal....

  • ..... Can you use it as a preamp??

  • Too bad my tube broke on this pedal after just a few months. Not sure what happened there.

  • sounds like shit to me

  • @krollaostmedburger just to argue a bit ;) why?? It sounds amazing

  • @Simmen12 its too fuzzy and fat. Maybe too much lows and mids

  • This guy or Metal Muff?

  • @spdking01

Metal Muffs are shit in my opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • sold, fucking love this!!

  • Whoa. Andy usually does bluesy alternative stuff, but he can shred and chunk too. What can't he do?

  • will this go good with a crate flexwave series 120 stack? because i know that amp doesn't have enuf distortion for metal with a tight low ends, just basically powerful riffting. will this pedal do the trick?

  • Hm... that sounds so tasty! I'm thinkingof buying one!

  • Lol when he says epic solos hes actually playing a song Epic by Faith no more!

    Made my day

  • @vidzaratm finaly someone who gets it. faith no more / mike patton are just great \m/

  • SEPULTRURA yay!!

  • It's not so tight as he claim it to be.

  • Behemoth?

  • @vampyrhart Dimmu Borgir - The Serpentine Offering

  • Dimmu in the beggining?

  • waaaah it's territory :) best intro ever

  • Reign in blood, that was very nice ;)

  • @axelcmoii South of Heaven

  • So is this a distortion pedal or a overdrive?

  • thumbs up for south of heaven by slayer and the pedal quality.

  • wow, this pedal sounds great, not like my boss mt-2 :/ I mean, the boss is good and all, but this tube dist sounds great, all I need to know is: does this dist work for deathcore/metalcore tones too? (:

  • This or the Riot?

  • THAT IS THE HEAVIEST I HAVE HEARD

  • this pedal will kick your ass, and probably leave an impression!

  • What's the name of the song you play at 1:49 ?

  • Oh, Epic. GET IT

  • hi guys!

what about some reviews on blackstar amps? I know you don't sell them, but you review their pedals... you could try ht-5 for a change :P

    good work andy

  • Is there any difference in HT-DIST and HT-DISTX?

  • @petruccifun I'm pretty sure the DISTX is similar, but with a higher gain.

  • @Maxmaxz i see. thanks:)

  • The solo wasn't very epic. Still, sounds like a nice pedal!

  • What is the difference of HT-DIST and HT-DISTX?

  • Hey I use the Blackstar Ht DistX too !

It rocks ! Check my videos !

    Cheers.

  • nice compilation man! \m/ God I WANT ONE!

  • I hate scooped mids, I like mids so much. I hate treble.

  • @AirHendrix91 ur obviously not a thrasher then? :P

  • @AirHendrix91 ME to i likeee hiiiiii hiii gain stuff but with a looot of mids! hate treble too!

  • south of heaven sounded pretty good

  • @victor9slipknot It's Slayer - South of Heaven if I'm not mistaken

  • Nice Slayer medley at 2:45 :)

  • what amp is this plugged in ?

  • @Elvastinen - Fender DRRi

  • @Elvastinen I know it's hard to tell, Andy makes everything sound like 65 Amps Soho they were made for each other!lol

  • What uber gain pedal can I put in front of a dead clean DSL? The gain on a DSL sounds more classic rocky than thrash metal. and using an overdrive pedal is a mess (unless you do pedal+overdrive which+noise). what distortion will have enough gain for a thrash fan, (thats still a good pedal, not like digital boss crap)

  • @PhiyukYu i have the same problem, but i found recently that my boss metal zone sounded amazing when the deep switch on the amp is engaged?

  • andy youre sick!

  • Sepulturaa ! \,,/

  • Is it good for thrash metal????

  • @totalmetalisation defo... he played slayer didnt he? :P

i bought this pedal and i have to say it fucking owns with Thrash... I play mostly metallica / pantera kinda tunes... but seriously the range of tone you can get out of thi thing is UNBELIEVABLE! :)

  • @totalmetalisation No! It was designed with the jazz player in mind as you can clearly hear in the Slayer riff

    sheeesh!

  • Is it good for thrash metal????

  • Nice demo..

  • how does andy manage to play like that without a pick? :O

  • "War for territory!!!" - Sepultura! from Chaos A.D.

    Nice!

  • Andy, I never thought I'd hear THIS tune from you in the intro. I've sung your praises again and again about your style, playing, diverse influences and taste, but now I am honestly and sincerely touched... :-)

  • Finally A Distortion Thta's Good For Metal!

  • Sick sick sick demo! all those Blackstar pedals sound amazing. and Andy seems to be getting better and better.

  • hey Andy do you deal with the blackstar amps? If so could we get some demos of them? (particularly the ht 20) anyways great demo as always

  • NEVER did I imagine Andy to play some Sepultura - let alone hear Sepultura in ANY gear demo!

(Maybe someone @ Memphis Drum Shop will play the intro to Territory next...)

  • shall i bring my own bombs?

  • very hissy...

  • Andy and Scotty have the best jobs ever. How would one het a job at PGS?

  • Yeah, I heard some SOAD in there ^^ Amazing pedal for as far as I have heard :D

  • Sepultura! Nice

  • Yeah Sepultura!

  • does the Blackstar HT Studio 20 amp head have this much gain on tap?

  • Nice video, as always. I love how Andy is basically a celebrity among us gearheads. I know if I ever saw him out on the street I would need a handshake and an autograph.

  • B.Y.O.B @ 3:40

  • You guys should cover Death (the band) for these heavy demos

  • I'm sure, he's playing it with fingers... xD

  • WAR FOR TERRITORY!!!

    sick pedal

  • No props to Scotty?

  • @oilpit - Not this time. This one's all Andy.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Andy can chug out the metal rhythms too....who knew?
