Why not just run multiple printing heads and enable offsets to compensate? I am guessing the extruder change was for different materials or colors? Theoretically
Very cool thing. I can't help but wonder what it does, appart from putting the green thing in the holder and picking it back up. I know what the reprap does tho.
Think of the green thing like a print head, now picture another one next to it. The purpose of this build is to show a method for autonomously changing extruders during a printing.

Ah, it all makes alot more sense now :) I should have guessed this :-/. I've seen it happen on commercial CNC machines.

Plus, other head can be a mill, a drill, a lathe instrument or even laser capable of cutting wood...
