It took courage to get into a recording booth with Placido Domingo but the result is a fusion of two vastly different registers and ranges to the delight of our ears and souls. Take away either voice and you lose some of the treasure, compatability from a common compassion(music) in this instance is 2nd. to none.
First I thought it was nice to my old vhs-transfer of this gem reuploaded, but after a closer look I'm not sure at all. Some of the video glitches may originate from the equipment used in the studio, and not my/your transfer equpment. It's hard to tell when this video is 240p.
In case it's not my transfer, then this is the very first time ever I see someone else posting transfers from the wonderful vhs casette "CBS Video Show 8". (A new much better version will be uploaded to my account soon.)
This version of the song didn't appear on a JD album until the 1984 release of his Greatest Hits Vol 3. The 1982 JD album "Seasons of the Heart" has this song, but with John only. RCA didn't think it wise to have a duet with Domingo on the album. I have no idea why. John's solo version is good, but the duet version rules supreme! What talents! & they sound great together!
I will always listen to the music of John Denver. May he rest in peace. This is the most beautiful song he ever wrote. I brings me to tears when I hear him sing it. God bless you John.
Played this at my wedding in 1987. People wept it was so beautiful. Still do. Miss you so much John. Thank you for all the gorgeous music you gifted us with.
some say love is holding on and some say letting go.... I ´ve lost my dearest fiance 6 years ago, he enjoyed this song and is now with Mr Denver. I think that letting go and moving on is a way of loving another person. thx JD.
@koenigsblauAntonius Heaven are very lucky to have to have him , along with my wonderful austrian singer FALCO. He died very shortly after JOHN DENVER. In a very tragic caraccident
One of my favorite songs and collaborations of all time. I get chills when I hear it. R.I.P., John... I was lucky to meet him when I was a baby, and he even came up to my parents in the audience and talked to me specifically, but of course, I don't remember, except for those "memories" that I imagine, based upon what I have been told. He was a beautiful soul.
i believe this is john denver's best song... so romantic and beautiful melody with renditions of violins at the background..some of john's songs are for mass appeal and a bit of lower class..this this one is on a higher level...or highest at that...if u have the feeling that u dont want the song to end...this is it...it can be sung forever in ur ears..
Bravo!!! Beautiful. I was a kid when this came out and loved it then; the contrast of their voices compliment each other perfectly. Thank you for posting :D
I had this recording played at my husband's funeral in 2002. It is a most beautiful song and a beautiful duet. Perhaps Lpve was 'our song'. I loved JD from my teens.. RIP John,...I was gutted when JD died. I play this song when I am thinking about my beloved husbald - R.I.P. I was priveleged to know my husband - just as I am priveleged to hear John Denver. Thank you both for everything and Rest in Peace. x x x
Incredible duet. Pl'acido knew they had a hit on their hands and he showed his satisfaction. The clarity and perfect pitch of John Denver voice was never better than that recording session........what a gift was lost to us.
A wonderful song and one with a wonderful story behind it.
Denver and Domingo recorded it, not expecting it to go commercial. But one day a promotions man took the recording to a Philadelphia radio station. The owner was a fan of Domingo so he asked to hear it.
But they couldn't get his record player to work so they played it over the air. In seconds they were flooded with calls asking where to get the record and it became a smash hit. All because a record player would not work.
@tfan68 The song itself found its way to be listened by the masses. If you ask me it was fate. This is a song that would had been a big mistake to leave it hidden for the lack of a better word.
Some times life has its ways to give us nice surprises :)
The beauty of this video is at 1:55 at the break when they know that have achieved greatness. You can tell by the way they look at each other and smile. This can happen in the studio when you least expect it.
@tfan68 Oct 12th 2011, 14 years to this date John was suddenly taken from us...thank God he did not suffer it was instant death and thats the way to go...thanks Lord! So hey John while your up there doing more work for Our Lord we want to say what a journey you have taken us on! WOW! So, today we remember you and prays go out to ur kids and family, Love, Annie

"No match for Placido"?!
"Courage"?!
OMGoodness!
Perhaps it's not the competition some of you seem to think it is!
Life is not all about competition.
For some, life is about love and beauty.
What a beautiful blending of two incredible voices on a day meant for love.
Happy Valentine's Day. (2012)

John is no match for Placido? Well, apparently Placido thought so, but then, what does he know?

great song, but have you looked at the drummer?
He looks like TJ Thyne , " Hodgins" , on Bones in the early seasons when he had longer hair.
