The feral cat killed in the movie was killed humanely by a vet, and not suffocated as depicted in the movie. The same cat was used both when it was alive and after it had been put to sleep. The kitten depicted to be killed later in the movie was not feral, and was not really killed, it was only sedated.
@NikkyFlippers They didn't "have" it put down, the cat they got from the shelter was returned there, and in a mix up accidentally put down and returned to the crew instead of the one they were meant to get
Rolf de Heer has said that the cat scenes were carefully filmed, with a veterinarian and animal cruelty inspector on set. Nicholas Hope, in an on-stage interview included on the dvd of the film, says there were two cats, one of which became a pet of a crew member. The other was a feral cat that was put down by a vet after filming (as with most feral cats that are caught in Australia).
Wrong again, my mate has the actual gladwrapped cat prop, he bought it from an auction in Melbourne a few years back! And no it wasn't a freshly wrapped cat. You know how the saying goes. "Beware of people who don't like cats"
i was listening to the commentary/interviews on the DVD they said it was a feral cat that was killed by a vet. They might have had a rubber prop as well tho
Ive just watched the DVD, with commentry from Rolf de Heers and Nicholas Hope, and it appears that you are wrong. The cat was on loan from the shelter for a day, and then returned to the shelter after the shoot. What was meant to happen, was that they would then provide them with a dead cat that had been put to sleep to use for the bit where the cat is wrapped in film, but what happened was, the cat they gave back was actually put down, and they sent the cat back, upsetting a lot of the cast.
@nantucketsleighrider So, the cat was traumatized on set, only to be put to it's death when it came back to the shelter. God help us all, I pray there's a heaven for cats as well as people, those scenes were downright animal cruelty...
Thats some childlike thinking, No the cat is dead, it has not been transported to a magical cat fairy land.
However, I was surprised at the scenes where he shook it and poked it with a stick, also tearing off cockroach legs, eating etc. Although remember that the editing is intended to make it look worse than it is. Who knows if it was genuine cruelty or not, apart from the roach
But slapping around a dead cat is no more animal cruelty than slapping around a hamburger patty
HAHAHAHA BUBBY!

Of coarse it's not a real cat you fuck fucks! I'd say it's a stuffed cat which they altered to make it look a bit floppy.

it's called a "PROP" or a "MODEL" they would be sued by PETA and Chared with animal cruelty if it was a real cat, dead or alive.
joebobers 2 years ago
No it wasnt a prop.
Read it on IMDb: The Internet Movie Database. The cat they used was a stray

@joebobers PETA is an American organization and can go fuck itself.
Also, Americas laws do not extend outside America.

anaskewview 4 years ago
Sadly they did-it was a feral cat that was going to be destroyed so after it was used in this scene it was put to sleep.
