@DenBosch112 my frnd i m frm India :) !!! i just flew once over there !!! i fly to many places its tough for me to keep the track of all the ''BUILDINGS'' around an airport !!!! T.C
A couple US Airways flights I've been on the "trumpeting" sound was generated by the horizontal screws that lowers the rear of the ring, [flaps?] to increase lift during take off... originally supposed to sound like a medium pitched "rummmm" but these were steel on steel grinding....It took a couple times before I can comfortably fly hearing it
@theSunamer: "i am sure that was sound of brakes applied in the air to stop wheels before retracting gear."
JM: That's probably correct. It could also be the tires slipping into the wheel well because the 737s don't have wheel well doors, just seals that fit around the tires.
I also once heard more funny noise when flying on an A320 seconds after rotated ; there were series of similar sounds like that - yeah ... perhaps it was the sound of retracting main landing gears or the landing gear doors ...
It is not supposed that no electronic device should be turned on when taking off? I think that the weirdo is you. As 55chh says, this is your first time flying.
thats the brakes or gears going up. or the you heard the nose gear which have two little slides to stop the wheels from spinning because the nose gear does not have breaks other than the slides.
FYI to everyone who's talking about the gear going up and the doors closing, there are no doors on the 737 main gear. There's doors on the nose gear, but seated so far aft in probably row 20-25, you wouldn't hear the nose gear. What I'm guessing you heard, was actually the brakes being applied after rotation to stop wheels spinning at 200mph, entering the wheel well.
No need to worry! :) That's just the the brakes going up and the door closing for the sky. When the plane goes up, the clouds or air, for when the tires of the plane travels a speed of 100 mph, and if the wheels are not closed then that can cause a wreckage! So, inorder to get the plane to go, then the wheels cannot be interferring with the travel and the speed of the velocity! :)
@collinsc148 this guy was sitting by the main back wheels. 737's back wheels dont have "doors" that close up. obviously another genious who claims he builds 737's when its machines.
It can be either one of two things, either a the aircraft's brakes are being applied. Or, it can be that the aircraft vibrates from weight after weight is decreased on the nose gear. Vibrations like this can be felt on any particular aircraft, this one had a fart it had to let go.
That my friend was the sound of a mechanical fart. Built up gases excaping the aircraft. Joking i am. Don't worry. Flying is the safest form of transport. Your not going to die on a plane. well... Hopefully not.
B737 does not have main landing gear doors (the nose gear does) so what you heard is probably the gear coming up into the gear wells. Also, as some have mentioned, it may be brakes although they are normally quiet when applied.
@dixie460 No they arent.. ive flown enough in the 737 to know that its the sound of the landing gear.
whenever the gear is retracted the brakes apply at max power to stop the wheels from spinning, as its written in the Top Comments above. heres a cockpit takeoff video of the old series of B737(-300/400/500 series) watch?v=sPHLu68QpOE
at the end of the vid u can hear after they raise the gear lever theres a loud noise in the cockpit...
That same happens in baby buses 7 (A320 series ) Airbus has proved that the noise can't affect any problems with flying. But as someone wrote below, this is really weird for B737 aircrafts.
Remember Alaska Airlines, unfortunately that news was burried when 911 happened. There were suspiscios noises from the tail noted by some pilots of similar type of jet. But the mechanics probably thought those were normal and were unable to make correct diagnoses and just lubricated some portions of the plane. Later on it was found out the cause of the fatal Crash was something like a stabilizer trim on the tail.
@AgentRB540 When a driver tells me there is a noise coming from the aircraft in flight what am i supposed to do? I cant ground the aircraft because of a noise!
Some people wants to show machismo and say it's nothing. Boy you're in the air and a little imperfection can result to DEATH. YOu may say you heard that noise many times before but unless it is looked into, it could be something other than what you think. So if you believe in God you better start asking for forgiveness because you'll never know for sure, it could be your last 10 minutes on earth.
as a former flight attendant on 737-800 I can confirm you that it is a unusual noise, also I confirm that this model of aircraft does not have landing gear doors on the main landing gear, every now and then there are unusual noise on aircrafts but be sure that the pilots write all of that in the maintenance book for mecanics to check once on the ground
It was either the door or the small amount of hydraulic pressure used to apply brakes to stop wheel rotation. Could be a sticky door lock, etc. Nothing major.
Was that a WHOOOOPY fart
