Ethical oil is a non-issue here. The real issue is BIG AMERICAN Oil doing everything possible to stop Canadians from selling oilsands products to other than the US. The US owns the oilsands and Gateway would allow other players to mine the bitumen and sell to Asia. It means wealth, jobs and economic development for Canadians and the US will never allow that. The US wants to keep the oilsands for itself and to continue to buy the oil from there at a discount. All the rest is a diversion.
You may have removed my facts because it doesn't feed into the hysteria going on with the Gateway pipeline. However, it doesn't matter - even if the zealots fighting Gateway win and the pipeline is not built, there are currently 24,570 km of pipelines in BC carrying gas, oil and other petro liquids (check it out - this is a fact). The oil companies will simply reallocate capacity in existing pipes to carry the liquidified bitumen.

Asia is the answer to a sustainable market. India has pumped more billions into its energy board with instruction to ply the world for new oil in order to do away with nuclear in a hot nuclear area. They have large properties in North Alberta Tar sands. Likewise China has bought huge tracks of land in the same area.
Our market is now producing in Alberta! It is up to us to get it to the coast to ship. We won't be free until this happens.

Alberta has been trapped into a one way deal with the US on the supply of oil to their market. Our oil is polished, sweet and enriched where need be: Premium! Yet, with the one customer calling the shots we are held to about 75% of the price of west Texas crude. All this, because we are trapped!
Consider there are more Americans working in the Alberta drilling scene than there are Albertans. What then is in it for us?
To break out we need to put on tap a second sustainable market.

It is 99% foreign money that is building the pipeline. There is virtually no Canadian money until the various Governments tell us we have to pay 2 billion a province to make it happen. None of the provinces have said how the line will be paid for or, who is going to be paid.
The 5.5 billion opener is the least it will cost; Canadians say "so what" to cost over runs. This price could easily double or triple!
I support the pipeline. I do how ever want more information.

@rongrite actually pipelines are about the safest way to transport crude oil... the problem with the Northern Gateway isn't just about where these pipelines will be cutting through, and not even where they'll end up loading the crude on to ships where theres a moratorium on oil tankers, but how it displays an irresponsible expansion of our biggest resource by a government thats selling us out to the most powerful and evil communist regimes on the planet - the Communist Party of China.

Ethical oil is a non-issue here. The real issue is BIG AMERICAN Oil doing everything possible to stop Canadians from selling oilsands products to other than the US. The US owns the oilsands and Gateway would allow other players to mine the bitumen and sell to Asia. It means wealth, jobs and economic development for Canadians and the US will never allow that. The US wants to keep the oilsands for itself and to continue to buy the oil from there at a discount. All the rest is a diversion.

You may have removed my facts because it doesn't feed into the hysteria going on with the Gateway pipeline. However, it doesn't matter - even if the zealots fighting Gateway win and the pipeline is not built, there are currently 24,570 km of pipelines in BC carrying gas, oil and other petro liquids (check it out - this is a fact). The oil companies will simply reallocate capacity in existing pipes to carry the liquidified bitumen.

Well, I am grassroots, and I have in the past donated to the Sierra club (and Greenpeace) and attended Sierra club meetings in the US, and so yes, I would expect the Sierra club to respond to the environmental crises and crimes within my country.
