I use OpenOffice 2. It works great for word documents spreadsheet and slide shows. I have yet to get a .doc (document), .xls (excel), or .ppt (powerpoint) that I couldn't read and edit. I use OpenOffice impress for all my slide shows for my presentations. Oh, and the best part it is free. You can also get paid support from Sun too.

Network printers aren't that loud. Not to mention they cut the clutter and cost of having a printer at every desk, even if they are significantly more expensive than a standard printer. You can stick NPs in different sections of the office, and then just have computers in certain areas print to their own printer. Little to no queue.
