Hello, I was wondering if fluoxetine is effective for anxiety (social anxiety)? sertraline made me so restless and unable to sleep that I was not able to complete the "initial phase" of it. I want to know what is a good alternative for depression and social anxiety. Thanks.
hi Dom, it's been a while since I last wrote to you and since then I've been taking 40mg/day of Citalopram for chronic depression. I have recently stropped taking this because I felt there was a possibility it was making my symptoms worse. I had a sense it was contributing or even causing my inability to feel anything at all, no emotions almost entirely. Could you do a video on this med (Citalopram/cipramil) please? Do you prescribe it much? Thanks for reading.
@christa387 Probably want to be taking it in the morning if your diagnosis includes some sort of anxiety.
If you take it at night, youll be sedated by it also causing waking when youre asleep, same with antihistamines for sleep, you get sedated but wake up.
What about Venlafaxine? Can you tell me about that. I am taking it for depression - hormones are acting up which is why I am thinking I am feeling depression. Please tell me more on this drug
please help. i ve been prescribed fluoxetine today for generalized anxiety disorder and moderate depression, but reading the side effects it can CAUSE ANXIETY??!! WTh?? if this gets any worse im really screwed!also if it treats depression how can it worsen its simptoms like anger and suicidal thoughts? im scared of it but need to start tomorow. IMPORTANT i work with children, small babies. is it safe to still be in sole charge of them? it petrifies me i can do smt dangerous or agressive!
Hi, I've been on 20 mg daily of fluoxetine for 25 days and on day 23 I started getting itchy skin, by day 24 and and 25 I've got an itchy rash on my legs. Can prozac cause this?
Fluoxetine is Fluoride this was used by Hitler in the camps to control the people by calming them. That is what flouride does calm you. Ask yourself why it is added to the water. It is not for your teeth. Fluoxetine is very hard to get off of the side effects are horible. You are better off taking 5-HTP for depression
Fluoxetine is less selective than the other SSRIs, it strong effects on SE, but also weak on NE and DE. Its a good medication for its time, but there really hasn't been a much better advancement yet.
do you think fluoxetine is the most effective ssri? what do you think of the concept of using low dose antipsychotic, such as olanzapine, in combination with fluoxetine for treaing refractory GAD?
Doc, I love your videos. I'm sure you're correct on the actions of Fluoxetine on neurotransmitter Serotonin. However, I do want to mention one thing. I am a grateful recovering meth addict with over 5 years clean, and just switched from 200 mg zoloft to 20 mg prozac, and It pretty much feels like a dopaminergic, adrenaline, stimulation to me. The SINGLE difference is no sexual desire with Prozac. Given my history with stimulants, I was shocked at how this made me feel. Keep it up Doc!
@afcody A lot of studies that have been conducted on Prozac in the early 1990s suggest that a significant number (80+%) of responders (people who benefit from treatment) have a comparable response to lower Prozac dosages (10mg/d and 5mg/d, respectively) of Prozac.
If you're reacting well to Prozac 20mg/d, but are experiencing bad side effects, you might want to consider asking your doc about gradually lowering the dose.
This should be able to lower some side effects. All the best!
Do u think ssri's are good for anxiety doc, I have tried paroxetine and citalopram, for severe GAD, with mild depression, all they have ever done is reduce my depression and cause sexual dysfunction, they're effect on anxiety is no where near as effective as a gabanergic agent. Plus they don't give you any zest for life, they make you feel ok and slightly more comfortable, but they dont make you want to go out and work or socialize. I don't think ssri's help young people get their life back doc.
Apparently fluoxetine, unlike all other SSRI's, has an indirect dopaminergic effect through antagonism at 5-HT2C receptors. This is quite interesting as to why fluoxetine is prescribed for OCD, where it is believed to have already under-functioning 5-HT2 receptors.
Prozac is strong, i can take a few and be fine for 2 or three weeks, i find out the hard way that taking everyday is a bad thing, its like overdosing on caffeine, bad idea.
I personally hate SSRI's with a passion. The most they have ever done for me is put me to sleep or give me atomic diarrhea. I found Pristiq to be the worst one they have made yet. I find amphetamines to be a much superior antidepressant in my case; they actually help me in all the areas of chronic depression that affect me the worst. Lack of motivation, energy, focus, concentration and initiative.
@XeonProductions I'm finding the same thing. I've tried a few types of anti-depressants but they really only made me worse in terms of focus, motivation, ENERGY was a major problem and general happiness. I took amphetamine for a while and it really improved these areas with minimum side effects other than some spots. I didn't even find the come-down too bad. I'm considering going back on it to be honest because I can't be bothered waiting 8 weeks for meds to kick in. Altho i know its bad for ya
Hi Doctor, as Prozac and perhaps other ssri's can stop hot flashes that occur in menopause, how is that occurring within the brain? Is the pituitary gland involved? if it is, isn't that a bit reckless to involve that driver? Thanks, I'm enjoying your videos!
Possible worsening of anxiety before it gets better must be a difficult issue for the SSRI prescriber. If they do mention it before therapy starts, this could in itself make the patient apprehensive & anxious; if they don't mention it and the patient does get anxiety, the patient will not realise it's temporary & may stop taking the med before it can begin to help ("It didn't suit me"). Tricky call.
prozac kills, you and others, have a look at my video on how a previously healthy person can get totaly done over
