@ToothierTrash Like Torrie says, they help for climbing. Also if I'm not mistaken they use them simply for hanging from branches. That's why they curve backwards, so that they can sort of hook themselves onto a branch and hang without using any muscles.

They don't really get any decent nutrition in their diet, so their bodies have evolved to use as little energy as possible. That's why they're so slow moving and vulnerable. The claws certainly don't make them dangerous, put it that way lol.
