  • Not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What are those folks in Cleveland thinking?

  • he also invented the seed drill . lol

    jk

  • I never tire of this performance. Just great.

  • Aye Cap'n.........I see were approaching 10,000 likes, odd that such a dis-jointed respect for genius, seems well placed to survive for a millenium..... or three.

This will always inspire imagination upon our childrens virgin ears.....Tull Forever

  • Bard.

  • A REAL MUSICAL GENIUS IT GETS INTO FULL STRIDE AT 4 MINS MAKES ME WANT TO LEARN THE FLUTE!!!!

  • rewelacja dziś i wczoraj.....Mr Jacek00

  • mesmerising, what an original ian anderson was/is.we loved them in England of course, but they were never HUGE as they should have been in their home country, and my American friends tell me they were massive in the states.musicianship at the highest level

  • I believe I was at this concert. I think. ;)

    Great music

  • as mc hammer said------CAN"T TOP THIS!!!!

how bout randalls island -- john mayall--- poco-----and finally ELP----$6 in cleveland in 1971

  • This is a true bard.

  • Yes he is quite the flutist and performer. I remember seeing one of his concerts in the late 70's in Houston. Fabulous show.

  • @BlondMartini Eherm. Flautist. Be careful, they may get mad and rebel against your improper use of their name, I've gotten many an ankle-bite for it...)

  • and to think the full studio version is 4x better than this.... my god. Forget prog, this is one of the greatest albums/songs in the history of music, shits on par with the work of mozart and beethoven.

  • This is so very excellent.

  • Still going today Brill... l!!!

  • este año gira en homenaje a los 40 años de este grandioso disco, ojala pueda venlos,me encanta este disco

  • It's too bad the music of my generation is some shitty techno/rap whatever it's called. THIS is real music

  • @donzosuckar i agree! we get all the crap stuff =(

  • @donzosuckar electronic music isn't the problem, it's the lack of real artists. try some blockhead buddy.

  • @donzosuckar did you ever heard of TOOL, PORCUPINE TREE...?

  • tull played unc every year early at 5 bucks a seat chronic was in the air

  • Ian Anderson has such an excellent voice

  • 240p we met again!!!

  • now this is talent!

  • tull oh so kool!!!

  • I saw this 78 tour and it was a bloated, mostly boring affair. This rendition of TaaB is okay, but it has too much of Barre and Anderson showing off to no avail and it omits many great sections of the song (including BOTH of the "where the hell was Biggles" parts). Of course Tull basically jumped the shark after Songs from the Wood so it's not a shock in retrospect.

  • @KwamiFabu i also saw them in 78 at the los angels colisium the first concert with the big screen next to the stage it was called tull o vision i thought they rocked

  • @stain22 Perhaps I was also disenchanted by the fact that the show sounded note-for-note like the "Busting Out" live album that was released at that time. This was years before Milli Vanilli, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of what I heard that night (William & Mary U.) was "canned." Anderson even defends the practice in a German(?) video I saw recently.

  • @KwamiFabu That's because it IS the album. Many videos are real footage of a show or other event & the better quality audio is then re-dubbed over the video/film of the event for best play.I recognized immediately that this audio is from the album, not the concert. The concert film audio may be substandard to what we are used to today.I forgive whoever switched the audio because it was done with good intention to show the concert clip in the best audio possible, even if it is from the LP recording.

  • And we were so high that night.

  • oK, so they weren't the most stylish dressers, but damn, the music is unbelievably great!

  • next tour? Are they playing? :D :D :D :D:D

  • @juannrocks94 basically just Ian and Martin (the guitarist) as far as original members go, but should still be legit

  • next tour 2012 we get the whole album-- can't wait

  • Martin Barre. Underrated to say the least. He is so great a guitarist.

  • NO one will ever be able to match Ian...impossible...he's a monumental genius ^5

  • I want to buy a time machine ...

    ...

... For stay in this concert !!!

  • this has too few views, society's loss :(

  • Does anyone know if there is footage of the rest of this song anywhere?

  • easily one of the best live performances EVER. NO fancy effects, not mimicking, just pure unadulterated musical badassery

  • @meowandmeow Isn't that the truth! AMEN!

  • Imagine the entire 45+ minute album done this way.... I would spooj

  • @meowandmeow they did it in the past but the most of the crowd was not happy to listen all of it

  • named my cat after you jethro!!! great music, such a legend!!

  • О! Да!!

  • This is the Ian i love

  • i agree. Epic! ck out this awesome mashup of jethro tull's living in the past with mission impossible. freakin' insane.

    search

    nutty press video

  • My god... the flute/guitar solo. I don't think I've ever witnessed such an epic thing before.

  • Clear voice!!!!!!Bravo!!!!!!

  • Amazing song!

  • That's the fittest hobo i've ever seen.

  • 7:56 OMG! is Ron Weasley

  • To release one or two good records is one thing, but to be musically brilliant to the point that u make music for 50+ years and STILL sound original on EVERY... Single... Album..!! That is something only Jethro Tull and Deep Purple could ever do!!

  • @Lafikhandro deep purple? come on....you can say better than that.... deep purple were Never brilliant. that's some bold statement.

  • The standout memory I've got of any gig is as an 18 year-old seeing Ian Anderson do his short version of 'Thick as a Brick' in Cardiff (Nov '74) during the War Child tour. Absolutely mesmeric! And Suzy Quatro's sister Patti was in the support act, 'Fanny' (oo...errr) and came and sat in the seat in front of me to watch Tull. What a night..... this Madison Square footage is great, but I'm certain the way Anderson performed it in '74 (in his minstrel costume) was much more dynamic and theatrical.

  • one of the ultimative 70's albums

  • The dislikes are SPAM.

  • the best performance ever of a single song on stage?

  • @jethroqueen technically it's not the entire song even, but probably :P

  • One hundred thick as bricks.

  • i like it!!! ;)

  • Oh well- that's all one hundred idiots rounded up!!!

They could just be deaf I s'ppose ;-)

  • Genius.

  • 99 people are thick as a brick

  • it is magic, indeed it is

  • 99 people sat this one out...

  • 7:56 :D

  • @BenRossington

Thanks for uploading this fantastic performance of the Tull, still as fresh today and is timeless, cheers!

  • The saddest thing is that these were the days of the TRUE artists and concert tickets ranged from $8, $12 all the way up to $20. Today there is a dearth of TRUE artists performing and tickets are hundreds of dollars at times, for NOTHING! I am glad to have experienced the 'good ole days" as did many commenting on here as well.

  • @IIIl1IIIlllIII1 I have ticket stubs from a couple of Tull concerts in the mid 70's. I paid $7 for one and $7.50 for the other. Both, as I recall, were amazing!

  • @IIIl1IIIlllIII1 lucky you! I'm 15 and I look around at these new band who play "music", I was born in the wrong generation :(

  • @IIIl1IIIlllIII1 You're so right...used to see all the big bands for 8-12 bucks, but with Knoxvilles addition of the "entertainment tax" the big names quit coming...best bet around here now are the small venues like the Valarium where Chevelle is coming and Knoxville's own 10 Years just performed, but the classic artists stay away in droves....

  • one day i want to have the balls to walk down the street dressed just like that ! such style . maybe when i am old and past caring any more lol .

  • daniel brou

  • daniel brou this baby

  • Coldcut74

  • Coldcut74 rmg say thums. Up

  • Woo Hooo jihaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....

  • This is music.

  • Awesome Video Thanks For Posting

  • Jethro Tull underrated?

They recorded the universally acclaimed best prog rock album of all time (Thick as a brick)

They recorded "Aqualung" another essential album.

They are still recording and performing.

The best selling newspaper in the UK is the Sun. All this means is that more Idiots can manage the prose written in this rag than can cope with the Times or the Guardian.

Music is the same. Jethro Tull are an exquisite band who the x factor generation cannot possibly hope to apprecia

  • damn im on the legendary side of you tube again i like it here

  • @roliexs damn i miss the 70's, with all my heart & soul

  • @IIIl1IIIlllIII1 damn i missed the seventies was born in 95 bad luck for me ;- /

  • @roliexs

This whole album would play in my head; I didn't miss a note! Loved it, love it.

  • @cathleennv he is a wonderful artist im glad i discovered him good music is rare in my generation

  • Wow this really is great. Jethro Tull is awesome!

  • Je n'ai qu'un seul regret dans la vie :

celui de n'avoir jamais vue la version live complète de "Thick as the brick" (celle de 43 minutes) :-( j'étais trop jeune à l'époque (1972) !!

  • I was at this show...it was amazing.

  • ATTENTION ALL JETHRO TULL FANS! IM AJETHRO TULL FAN TOO! THE COMMENTS THAT SAY THEY WERE MADE BY ME WEREN"T! MY NEHEW WAS MAKING THE COMMENTS AND I DIDN'T KNOW IT! THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HOF YEARS AGO! A VERY VERY UNDERRATED BAND! SAW IAN ANDERSON ON LETTERMAN IN '83 OR '84 AND HE WAS THE BEST INTERVIEW EVER ON THE SHOW! AGAIN I'M A FAN! I'M GLAD FOR YOUTUBE SO I CAN SEE THIS! HONEST!!!!!

  • cocaine is hell of a drug

  • Brilliant-I still love Jethro after 40 years

  • Genius. Ecstatic, brilliant GENIUS !! :D

  • lol at the people who still think that Ian Anderson is Jethro Tull.

  • wow this is amazing

  • Tenacious D might sound as Jethro Tull not the other way round x.x

And... really ? come on !!! One is humour, satiric, or whatever... this IS music.-

  • @Gonzarnr The TAAB album is very satirical and tongue-in-cheek in and of itself. Read the albums newspaper cover, it's full of inside jokes.

  • I agree with Rocky54ify....huichol.....53

  • man i gotta grab this album...

  • daniel brou

  • Mr. Anderson, some may think you are a minstrell, but you truly are the king!!!

  • Is it just me or does this sound like something from Tenacious D

  • @Guitarzan747 perhaps Tenacious D sounds like Jethro Tull...

  • 40 years passed and there's no such a better live performance than this one. Simply epic!

  • OMG, we were at that concert in '78 at the Garden! Nothing compares to being there "in the day." Tull = simple genius. Probably the most brilliant group in the history of rock and horribly under-rated. Tull and Ian Anderson rule . . . forever.

  • saw this inf Manheim, Germany 1970 , just before the album came out just great

  • Love the beginning of this song. Ian Anderson is so cool.

  • I just love it

  • not much people understand the song!

    is fantastic damit song!

  • Performance de gênios!

  • Jethro Tull, Freddie Mercury from Middle Earth...

    .

  • @mymanyminds00 Jethro Tull, Jethro Tull from Middle Earth

  • @Seinamursu

The real Jethro Tull was born in 1674 in England and invented the seed drill, which transformed 17th century agriculture by way of seed distribution. Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull, the band , transformed music in the latter half of the 20th century by incorporating Medieval concepts and lifestyles into modern day music. Pure genius!! Just listen to the Minstrel in the Gallery--that song personifies the Medieval life. Greatest band of all time....

  • This is one of the most incredible live videos I've seen on youtube.

  • 94 Pricks are Dumb As A Brick .

  • Not the best band, but one of the best bands, My favorite song.

  • TULL'S ARE THE BEST-

  • This man didn't need drugs.............

  • @cuneeda1950 Of course! He is a god man! God's don't need drugs!...

    well...This is My opinion...=/

  • @cuneeda1950 But they helped.!

  • @cuneeda1950 but I bet you he enjoyed them...

  • @altmegido According to interviews, they got in the way of his creative process, so he stopped in the early 60s.

  • @cuneeda1950 but did them anyway

  • This stuff makes me jizz instantly.. too much talent to handle

  • Thick as a Brick is the best album that Jethro Tull ever made ! Im mean its one song is the entire album !

  • Örök zene :)

  • I love Jethro Tull. I love all of their music. all of it is well composed and put alot of effort into their music, lyrics and they had meaning to the songs. I may be only 27 but these guys inspired me to be a musician.

  • Thinks MrGeorgios is in the minority here ,,,,with 3m views and likes outnumbering dislikes by 80/90 to 1 there must be a lot of us uncool dated old-school hippies around. Wonders what music we should listen to if we are "getting with the times"!

  • Brilliant!

  • The Times are changing, but Perfect Music Performance remains. Please give me examples of non-dated music that will last for eternal re-listening like this epic JT concert.

8037 likes, 93 dislikes, that must mean something. 93-1 misclicks?

  • @MrGeorgios2020 What complete nonsense. This music is beautiful. The lyrics are brilliant.

  • @MrGeorgios2020 Based of the amount of people cursing at you on your channel you can't be nothing but a JERK !

  • @MrGeorgios2020 Its the vocals... Listen to Pink Floyd or King Crimson for, pure, unadultered prog rock.

  • @Polymerabbit that's more psychedelic rock...especially dark side of the moon

  • Jethro Tull at the the absolute height of their career.

A crying shame that Ian Anderson Thick as a Brick is touring without Martin Barre. Totally pointless in my opinion.

  • @paulnuk I agree!

  • SVAKA MU CAST!!!

  • 7:57

    John Evan looks insane.

  • First time seeing this one. Tull was always at the top of the list for 70's arena rock. $6.00 good seats with at least 1 name opening act. ahh..those days....

  • I remember Jethro Tull in the late 60s i was in vietnam hes the greatest thank God for poor old people like me that are able to get you tube im 67 and i love rock and roll semper fi

  • o grande da noite

  • hmz I am always in the mood for some fun and I never say NO

  • I love this!

  • Martin Barre looks like the least capable person of shredding the guitar like that, but look at him go!

  • just about being Scottish let it flow wine whiskey and beers

  • yes

  • Rock Music changed forever the moment Ian Anderson put that flute to his lips!

  • I can't imagine he did all of that and wasn't 'high'

  • @murphy903 he was high on legal drugs, cigs and alcohol.. unfortunately his throat lost in the long run.

  • @casualtySR Such a bummer. His voice is absolutely shot. Still plays a mean flute, but his vox were a distinguishing part of the bands sound as well.
