  • Three dislikes....I guess some people don't like awesome. I can understand that, I don't like good tasting food or tasting delicious beverages or spending wonderful days on a boat somewhere.

  • This video was in the "related videos" to a performance of this by the Stan Kenton Jazz Orchestra. Being a fan of DCI, I clicked on this video, and I was amazed. This is so awesome. I would absolutely love to hear this played live.

  • @ndguitardude33 It's even more amazing live. :D

  • You know, I've been playing this on repeat for 2 days everywhere I go. I'm 24 yrs old with a musical background and just want to say; For a gym, their dynamics are really nice. Great video.

  • Clowns is in 4/4. Some Measures are in 6/4. And that is a Fact. Enjoy the adorable of this Piece and dont worry about Measures... SCV <3

  • ITS A BRASS THING!!!!

  • Just aged out last year. Miss it already =(

  • You can see a woman wipe tears away.. so emotional shew.. Go SCV

  • This brings back really good memories.

  • why is he conducting in four>?!?>?>

  • @topfuel567 the song is in 12/8

  • @topfuel567 Gotta have that metronome going man. It's drum corps after all :P But yeah.. I was wondering the same thing too.. Maybe it is to discourage players to do phrasing,, which kinda seems to be the deal in drum corps.

  • Class

  • Great playing! I suggest you guys check out Stan Kenton's version of this song...GREAT trumpet solo in it.

  • excellent work!

  • the name itself is an oxymoron, this made me feel sad, not happy, as i expected from the name, but still, it is beautiful :'D

  • I think of Gail when I hear this piece.

  • Royer? Are you an SCV alum from the good 'ol days? 1987 myself. My hair stands on end every time I hear this.

  • I'm not an alum. I'm just grew up a fan of the corps.

  • the contras at the last chord...hell yea

  • This strikes a chord in me that makes me for all warm and fuzzy inside. My respect for SCV had just been multiplied by 10...

and this a coming from a die hard BD fan

Does anyone have a good recording of this?

  • Yeah someone better have a decent mp3 of this....

  • I have a recording of it that is pretty good, but I wish there was a better version I could find. I'm not sure it its of this actual performance, but its still very nice.

I love this arrangement of this piece and how they play it is just...magical and very emotional.

  • I would love you if you could send it me.

  • heck yes!!

  • :')

  • Just puts a smile on my face everytime I hear that big hit at 1:20...

  • i cry when i hear this

  • argh!!! they've got such an awesome tone!! that tuba sound kills man!

    awesome band, awesome video!

    5 stars.

  • Hate to say it, but IT's NOT A BAND!

  • Absolutely AMAZING! :D

  • Its such a beautiful peice by Stephen Sondheim. ANd just the way it was arranged was beautiful.

  • awdcvqevfwegwrgwrgwerg

  • i was there for this!!! so incredible live!!!

  • This is absolutely amazing.

  • Congrats on making the "A" Corps. That is a big achievement and you should be proud. All the best this summer.

  • I marched Freelancers in the eighties and early nineties. I pretty much always toured with Santa Clara. I met Gail Royer on many different occasions and had many friends there (Santa Clara). EVERY time I hear Santa Clara play Clowns, it is special. EVERY time I hear Santa Clara play Clowns, they are playing it to Gail. EVERY time I hear Santa Clara play Clowns, it makes me cry.

  • ditto man. im not as aged a drum corps man (im 17, just made SCV A), but hearing clowns even when i marched Vanguard Cadets choked me up

  • Who is that at the end??

  • The girls holding their ears at 1:24 is HILARIOUS!

  • Technically the conducting is correct. SITC is timed in 12/8, which is the same conducting pattern as 4/4

  • absolutely beautiful!

  • i don't understand the conducting at all lol...

  • Is this really in 4/4 as he's directing it? Who arranged this? Does anyone know?

  • i forget the arranger but yes it is in 4-4.. its a very hard meter to stick with given the melody but after listening to it.. you can see and hear it fit better

  • Yeah, after I'd finally figured it out, I'd already posted the comment. It's crazy for that song to be in 4/4, but it makes much more sense now. LOL Thanks for responding!

  • the brass instructor did the arrangement, I dont remember his name sorry

  • mann.thats beautifull.

i would cry if i was in that front seat..

    such good musisc.

    who agrees with me?

  • I get teary eyed listening to good corps off of you tube.

Real life is so much better, i just can't help but smile though. Especially while playing in a awesome corps line. :D

  • Can you believe that there were actually people on the front side plugging their ears!? I would kill to hear this indoors and from that vantage point.

  • actually sometimes you can hear notes alot clearer if you plug your ears

  • i want to punch that lady in the face!

i would love to be sitting where she is for this lol

  • While I would have loved to be sitting in her place as well, lets not get violent here.

  • All I can say is....WOW....I will admit...Vanguard is not my most favorite corps out there...but its just a wonder that Vanguard can produce such a full beautiful sound for this song. Kudos Vanguard....Nicely played!!!!!

  • When I aged out of SCV and played it for the last time, I wept. I miss Vanguard so much :( This video brought back a lot of very good memories!

  • Things like this is what makes me absolutely LOVE drum corps!

  • that was without a doubt one of the most beautiful things ive ever had the priveledge of hearing in person. its something ill never forget, and thanks to TonyDanza007 for posting this so i could relive that moment.

  • Man, I so want to get a chance to see them place this.... :D

  • I am not even an alum of SCV (Freelancers 1986-1992) but EVERY time I hear this is gives me chills and brings me to tears!

  • absolutely beautiful

  • gorgeous

  • Brings back a lot of old memories for me. I loved it when they played it with Phantom at their home show in Rockford 84. When I think of Drum Corps this certainly fits the bill!

  • CHillz...giving me chillz!

  • some one might want to thing about renaming

  • Renaming what? "Send in the Clowns?" Listen to the actual vocal version and you'll know why it's called that.

  • Chorale, AKA "send in the clowns", their corps song...
