Then again Elvis Presley did a whole lot of covers and still was seen "The King" for some reason.

As for Elvis: As much as he was a good singer, the only thing he ever did was making black music "acceptable" for whites. That he got all the recognition when artists like Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly did more at the time is proof fame doesn't equal quality. By the mid 60's Elvis wasn't even relevant to the youth of the time. In his '73 Hawaii concert, he did loads of covers.
