@wallofvideo I absolutely see how you can interpret these sayings as such. Zen comes from the perspective that normally its audience is attached to worldly desires (money, sex, etc.). Yet because Zen goes so far in its teachings to try to remove this "attachment" it more often than not gives the illusion of lending itself to "becoming excuses for a disengagement from any struggle.." In reality Zen seeks to have one's mind see the world in a purely unbiased manner.

Please elaborate. I will say that Zen though is very paradoxical in its teachings. It strives not necessarily to make logical sense but to have an individual rise above conventional thinking and consequently better him/herself by challenging one's own mind and preconceived notions about the world.

He gives you a koan to break through ignorance in Rinzai line, or gives you instruction to practice shikantaza in Soto line of work. If you want to practice Tibetan Buddhism for exmp. Kagyu mahamudra or Nyigma Dzog-Chen, go to Lama and ask him for guidence. You need to acomplish Ngondro ( mantra, prostrations, guru-yoga, offerings of mandalas), meditate shine & lathong and so on.

All what is important is to see what is already in front of you. What do you see in front of yourself? Subject plus object equals enlightenment. You already are seeing and hearing, but aren't aware of that. So teachings are like a finger pointing to the moon. See the moon and the finger. You can awake and live in mindfulness.
All paths are non denominational. Teachers and Lamas only try to make people break through ignorance, and many do have partial enlightenment, but complete absolute awakening , ie Buddha, Hui Neng, Empty Cloud, Bodhidharma are few in between. Only one could teach oneself, and since everyone and everything is the world, then one whole world is a teaching. There's millions of Buddhists, and yet most do not gain complete insight, why is this? The teachers are not awaken
@Childrenguild Don't try to learn buddhist enlightenment by yourself. Find a good teacher, A Zen master or Lama, and learn from Him or Her. If your teacher frees you from your problems ie. mental crazyness, tiredness and exhaustion, depression and ignorance, fears and wild desires then you will learn fast from such a teacher and your life will become clear. If you feel badly and teacher speaks strange messages which make you more confused and ill, then that teacher is not for you.

I like what you say, but I will try to do this by myself. Human teachers are not really accessible for me, and I cannot really travel anywhere. The surangama,diamond, lotus, platform sutras have been such eye openers toward the delusions that come with practicing. Perhaps, I am not ready for a teacher just yet, I will do this by myself, and besides ignorance. I'm not lazy, tired, greedy? But maybe I am, I meditate 3 hours a day and practice all day, but thank you.

Can you answer questions of others and truly illuminate them without confusing them. @wallofvideo I absolutely see how you can interpret these sayings as such. Zen comes from the perspective that normally its audience is attached to worldly desires (money, sex, etc.). Yet because Zen goes so far in its teachings to try to remove this "attachment" it more often than not gives the illusion of lending itself to "becoming excuses for a disengagement from any struggle.." In reality Zen seeks to have one's mind see the world in a purely unbiased manner.

Please elaborate. I will say that Zen though is very paradoxical in its teachings. It strives not necessarily to make logical sense but to have an individual rise above conventional thinking and consequently better him/herself by challenging one's own mind and preconceived notions about the world.

How is it Buddha had to go through much trial such as Mara. And in most accounts of saints, siddhis, sages in other "religions" there is inner demons, Satan one has to conquer. In the surangama sutra it highlights what one will go through, and it is very descriptive that when one breaks through ignorance demons come to attack you due to one literally disturbing their home. When I breathe, do I hear this? A zen master once told me do not look inside, look inside! Using antonyms to answer & eliminate all opposites leaving with me nothing, literally doing nothing, thinking nothing. I then realized nothing, for a moment all was pure.

He gives you a koan to break through ignorance in Rinzai line, or gives you instruction to practice shikantaza in Soto line of work. If you want to practice Tibetan Buddhism for exmp. Kagyu mahamudra or Nyigma Dzog-Chen, go to Lama and ask him for guidence. You need to acomplish Ngondro ( mantra, prostrations, guru-yoga, offerings of mandalas), meditate shine & lathong and so on.

All what is important is to see what is already in front of you. What do you see in front of yourself? Subject plus object equals enlightenment. You already are seeing and hearing, but aren't aware of that. So teachings are like a finger pointing to the moon. See the moon and the finger. You can awake and live in mindfulness.

If you feel badly and teacher speaks strange messages which make you more confused and ill, then that teacher is not for you.

The surangama,diamond, lotus, platform sutras have been such eye openers toward the delusions that come with practicing.
