The re-enaction was probably filmed within a few months, but from the aged-sounding voice of Jeffries (who it's very interesting to hear) the audio is from decades later. Btw, jhs1958, the don't like it, don't watch it rebuff doesn't make sense here: I can understand if the thing lasted half an hour but the film is so short you can watch it all before you make up your mind.
Jeffries flabby? Don't think so especially in the 1890's. If he was anything he was built like a rock. Fitzsimmons was never flabby even in his 50's he was under 180lbs.
@marcxopoco Research a bit before you post. The real James
Jeffries and Bob Fitsimmons (not actors) were hired by Thomas Edison to reinact the final round. The reinactment was done less than a few weeks after the actual fight as the film of the actual fight was ruined in development. Fitzsimons still bared scares and bruises from the real encounter. Don't take my word for it, read about it for yourself.
@marcxopoco Well I'm stuck with the bridge. I corresponded with a boxing historian and despite several publications stating the contrary actors were indeed used. Jeffries was portrayed by Jack McCormick a fighter of the period, not sure who
played Fitz. I noticed "Jeffries" in the film is leading with his right, and the real
Jeffries although a natural left hander fought out of a conventional stance.
@jhs1958 well..its interesting from a general historic standpoint..and interesting from a film standpoint..not really interesting from a boxing history standpoint.
@marcxopoco they actually have an uncanny resemblance to the real fighters. plus its still in some way a piece of history. its the only extant visual record of that fight, reproduction or not
jeffries fitz fight was the first to be filmed with ''artificial lighting''. the lights were so hot they singed the hair on jeffries head.(bob had none).the film was lost for unknown reasons. shame , lost a great fight by two great fighters. close your eyes and try to picture it.
.Had to check it out ,but you are correct i did not like it for quality if it could be digitally enhanced it would be excellent for historic footage . I mean no insult just was expecting a better viewing of the fighters.Regards
Although it's obviously a "fake", I guess that is actually Jeffries talking at the end? I know he died in the 50's, so does anyone know if there is talking film footage or an interview with Jeffries available from later in his life so we can hear him?
Tyson would kill em both

@madmax8903 Haven't you heard?
YouTube has made it a prerequisite to be an asshole before being able to comment on fight vids.
We have one who has adopted more than 20 screen names and spends his time making ugly, anti-American comments on fight boards.
So don't expect much. It's better to watch the videos and not even look at the comments. Less frustrating and annoying.

In this piece of crap both actors are fighting southpaw--with their RIGHT hands and right foot in front.
Couldn't be more ridiculous.
Next they will show an actor playing Babe Ruth standing on his head while he is at bat ( and OF COURSE--batting Righthanded to boot).

@andrewr62 is so obtuse he can't comprehend that this is NOT the real Jeffries and Fitzsimmons.
Two actors pretend to be Jeffries and Fitzsimmons here.
This is GARBAGE.

the fight was not filmed because the arena's lights blewed up.

Was this taken from the 1968 documentary The Legendary Champions? I saw it years ago, but I don't remember all the fights that were shown in it.
