Why spoil such a good video by debating the same old "musician vs dj" crap?
The two are different artforms in their own right. I've seen brilliant musicians unable to hold a dancefloor/gig together and I've seen incredible djs fail as musicians/producers. And I've seen and know people who are good at both.
My point is it doesn't mean anything. Just enjoy the video for what it is.
it all comes from the heart, being a dj or a producer,or being part of a band.if you don't feel it inside how are you going to get it out so that the rest of the world can feel what you feel.
In House Music, both the Music and the DJ are "co-dependent". One can always create the sound, but, the "right" DJ ensures your music's legacy.
Most DJs have the same records, unless they have their own unreleased productions. How one presents their programming distinguishes them from the others.
Joe Claussell is a LEGACY maker. Go to his MySpace page. You can actually SEE the LOVE and APPRECIATION he receives from MUSIC (not just House) LOVERS.
I like Joe and house but I can't get all worked up about guys who play & mix other peoples music through machines & technology at constant 4/4. DJ's aren't the musicians nor are they gods to be worshipped. They just play music. It's not rocket science
Playing an instrument isn't rocket science either; a good DJ (especially in house music) will understand the subtleties of the musics structure, groove and mood and with awareness of this he can use this music to take the dancefloor/ listener on an emotional journey. It is no way as simple as non-DJs make out. Of course there are plenty of sub-standard DJs out there that dont have any imagination which probably leads people to thinking it's as easy as piss
I also love & know many. And Yes if you are sensitive with the tech skills you can make or break a party. But the written material is the original source. And an ingenius creative mind after years of training can concieve and produce what a DJ can only sample. I don't want to pay the same price to see a good record spinner as I do a great band.
Well maybe it takes more talent/ skill to produce a great piece of music that it does to DJ. But as a producer, DJ or otherwise, only one thing matters and thats being open to inspiration. I don't care how shit hot a producers studio skills are or how flashy a DJ can scratch, if it doesn't come from the heart then it's empty, souless. This being said, it does take having the skills to be able to convey whatever vision or inspiration you've recieved. Peace brother :)
Well, I can get worked up. It's all about the way he make me feel the vibe when he plays. When I watch him do this thing, I see and feel his vibe and it's energy flow through me. Very few DJ's do that to me. I guess it's something you could never understand, but it's because it's my feeling.
Of course I can understand the rush you can get from a good DJ. I've DJ'd and recorded compilations. Andif the groove is good I'm the on dancing wildly in the front of the stage. I know that creating a vibe and flow is an artform but it's still sampling. When the beat is hot. I credit the musician that wrote it more than the DJ the exploits it. What upsets me is having to pay as much to see a DJ as a Live band.
In all honesty though, sometimes it's takes a damn good DJ to bring the point home of what someone wrote. We can debate this issue back and forth, but I respect what you're saying, although, it doesn't quite cost as much to go to the club than to a concert ;-)
yeaaaah! i understand both sides but i think i got to say wigginsdesign! if there's no music there's no dj! if the song is hot it's not important to have special dj! the only problem is to find that great dj with such a good taste in music and also creating the vibe, which is good, but the musicians deserve more credit. I think we need a new disco era with people MAKING GOOD DANCEABLE music!
