Sonny heard her singing around theirv apt., just doing housework. How can you deny her incredible voice, stunning exotic looks, and her acting accomplishments? Phil Spector wouldn't record w/o Sonny and Cher singing back up. Ever heard of a little ditty called "You Lost That Lovin' Feeling? Yes, thats our fave couple in the back ground. Listen to "Classified !A, Sonny wrote that, and feel the emotion the wonderful Cher puts into it.A soldier declaring his love, while he's "dying in the mud. .
I was a young teen when these shows were on the tube. My hormones were running wild back then and Cher was responsible for many of my, well, you know......
@dajesusblues I know it may seem that Cher is the talented side of the duo,, which is true, but people don't realise that Sonny deserves some credit too. He was more the business side of Sonny and Cher, while Cher was obviously the talented side. Sonny actually made Cher, he found her, and basically made her a star.
I was a teen in the 70's ... I believed that (i.e. MrJasonhenry7) back in the day ... older and wiser now ... they were both very accomplished individuals ... they offset each other fabulously and each went on to have brilliant careers.
@rockinrobintweets Lol i have read from both sides. He was a jerk. It's just he didn't like all the nice people all the time. That's why he never ran as a president. It's honestly sad though. He would have been a great one, but he had alot to go before becoming one.
I just loved their chemistry on stage together..I mean Seriously they make entertaining..look soo easy!...And Cher..HOT DAMN that woman can wail like a son of a bitch!!! LOVE IT!!!! thanks for posting!!
@MrJasonhenry7 I guess you weren't around in those days. Sonny was already an accomplished songwriter before Cher even got to Hollywood. He had experience and many connections in the music industry. He saw Cher's talent immediately and used his influence to make her a star. After his music career was over, he re-invented himself by opening a Palm Springs restaurant, becoming Mayor of that city, then a U.S. Congressman. Cher owes her success to Sonny.
@TrekToons You are absolutely correct! Few people give Sonny the credit he is due. Thanks for posting for those who weren't around back then. I was, and loved them both. Still do!
@thetwinkleturnip - I don't believe Cher was ever into any drugs. Her voice was all ready limited ... so pot would have been detrimental. Cher was more of an enabler type. Sonny was not into drugs either. I was referring to Greg Allman, as Cher's rehab project.
@thetwinkleturnip - No, actually you are just clueless and young. Believe it or not there actually were "hip" entertainers in the 60's and 70's that didn't use drugs. I wouldn't be surprised if Sonny did pot in his young days, but he was no druggie. Cher definitely was not into drugs. I see kiddie comments like yours all the time for every pop/rock artist, twinkle turnip.
@MsThebeMoon it's not the hipness I am looking at, it's their behavior, this is especially evident in the 1965 recording of "I Got you Babe". I most cases I have seen, Sonny, in particular, appears intoxicated; though it may be an act.
@TrekToons - That is for sure she will admit she owes him a lot because he was talented in making it happen for them. Also Sonny learned a lot fro Phil Spector while he worked for him during the earlier
period of his life. He realized Cher had talent and because she was afraid to sing on stage alone Sonny became part of the Act called "Sonny & Cher." Still sad things didn't work out for them on a personal basis.
It would have been HILARIOUS if they came out and just started farting and laughing hysterically at their own farts

@TrekToons - That is what makes his story so sad - so much he accomplished and yet there was
little regard to his talents. As Cher said at the Funeral Eulogy no one realize he was the one that
made the "Sonny & Cher." He was that taken too soon. RIP Sonny. What I am disappointed is his grave site - it could look a lot better..

@TrekToons perhaps Cher owes her success to sonny, but who is responsible for their steady supply of Quaalude and Pot ... and can I have his number?
