Was at the game in 1971, most horrific experience any 16 yr old should ever have to go through, helping injured and dead bears, and yes Jock Stein was there on the staircase helping as well. RIP fellow bears we will never forget, Je me souviens
Great song and a really touching and well deserved tribute. Im a lifelong Gers fan but got to credit the fans of Celtic at the last old firm for respecting the silence. Theres usually 1 or 2 morons that try to spoil it for the decent ones among them but never heard a peep out of them.
Could it possibly be that The Green Brigade kept quiet out of love for their club rather than respect for the dead. They were asked not to embarass Celtic and that is exactly what they did
@crantara1 other than a few well orchastrated and deliberate coughs from a few clown's in the Celtic support, the silence was observed. there should have been no other reason to observe the silence than a simple show of respect for football fans that died at a football match.
@MrStruth you are talking a lot of crap. you are just trying to find fault. as a rangers supporter of long standing (i was at the match in 1971) they showed the respect that we would have given if the situation had been reversed
@MrJimmyboy1972 I am certainly not talking crap, like anyone else at Ibrox that day, I heard deliberate coughing from some Celtic fans, a Celtic fan in my work who was present among the Celtic fans confirmed it, there may well have been only a few, however like Bill Leckie (no friend of Rangers) stated in his newspaper collumn, it happened. I dont print lies, and certainly acknowlege that the tribute passed as well as could be expected but dont tell me what I did or did not hear !
@MrStruth deliberate coughing. are you aff yer heid. its the middle o winter in scotland. in a crowd of thousands dont you think that some people from both sides might, just might, have a cough. numpty.
@MrJimmyboy1972 Firstly I am not a numpty, secondly, I was in the West Enclosure only yards away from the Celtic support, SOME Celtic fans deliberatly coughed, Nothing could be head from any Rangers fans beside me or from behind me in the Main Stand or club deck.
The Celtic fan in my work admitted there was coughing going on, He was there, I was there, Bill Leckie that reported on the game and confirmed that it happened was there, loads of Rangers fans confirmed on followfollow they heard it !
@ExtremeBogom only thing of yours i would spread would be your fuckin nose when i smash it you prick. now fuck off back to the spare room and wank on your guitar you spazie
@MrJimmyboy1972 ....i was right next to the celtic support Jimmy ...a lot of them where sniggering and grinning like clowns , and definately deliberately making exaggerated coughing noises ! Bill Leckie reported it his column !!! My mates where in the celtic end too and said there where lots of idiots delberately coughing , knowing they could claim its because of the cold winter ! That said ....the overwhelming majority of hoops fans observed the silence with decency ! well played guys !
@crantara1 i was at that game. and i think the celtic fans showed a great deal of respect for the departed. i was at the rangers end and was lucky not to be involved in the carnage. people are people and feel for one another.
As a lifelong Celtic supporter , I am proud to have taken my kids to Ibrox today . Told them the story and they spent some time looking thru the tributes . God bless all the families concerned .
I WAS IN THE CELTIC END ON SUNDAY AND HAD NO DOUBTS AT ALL THAT THE MINUTE SILENCE WOULD BE RESPECTED, HAVING BEEN TO COUNTLESS OLD FIRM GAMES OVER THE YEARS AND HEAR WHAT YOU HEAR AND SEE WHAT YOU SEE, I,M SURE I,M NOT ALONE IN SAYING I OFTEN FELT EMBARRASSED BEING A GLASWEGIAN, AFTER THE TOTAL RESPECT SHOWN ON SUNDAY I FEEL SO PROUD, WE ALL SHOULD
RIP to all the fans who died that day, sorry this might sound stupid but how did they die cos i dont no cos im a Manchester United fan and i was born in 1996 so really dont no wat happened. RIP
was sitting beside my mate who is from Scotland and a Rangers fan here in Dublin and was proud how Celtic fans conducted themselfs today...we owed you that respect especially after the way Walter Smith and super "ALLY" Mcoist and the real fans of Rangers turned up for Tommy Burns funeral....god bless all those who died in 66...you will never walk alone..!
As far as I am aware, the Green Brigade were at the game and like any other decent human beings showed their respects for the souls who were tragically crushed on Stairway 13 .. I will never forget hearing the news reports from Ibrox that day .. 66 ordinary, working class fans lost their lives and I feel for those families who still suffer the grief today .. Rest in Peace !
As far as I am aware, the Green Brigade were at the game and like any other decent human beings showed their respects for the souls who were tragically crushed on Stairway 13 .. "This terrible tragedy must help to curb the bigotry and bitterness of Old Firm matches. When human life is at stake this kind of hatred seems sordid and little. Fans of both sides will never forget this disaster." Jock Stein, 1971
My thoughts to all the families who lost their loved one, we as Rangers fans missed them standing with us and loving this great institute and football club........anyone who disgraces their memory is just hateful and needs to look themselves in the mirror and discover who they really are....
Rangers will win tomorrow......
My prayers to all the families who miss their loved ones.....God bless you and thank you Matt McGinn for writing this song......
this goes way way beyond football young boys went to a game and never came home rip all 66 victims lets all raise a glass as the bells ring out tonight no matter who you support and i truly hope celtic fans will do the decent thing and respect the minutes silence because this isnt about them or rangers its about 66 innocent victims. rip
I came to Canada in 67 with my mum and dad and can remember hearing of the horrific tradgedy in 1971. What is also horrific is reading the cold heartless posts that have been written here! I am a proud Scotsman who still calls it home but after reading the comments I am not so proud. I can't believe the disregard for human life amongst your fellow Scots! Forget the colour of your jersey and remember the 66 victims and their families at this time. @realman 1888... you're not a real man at all!!
Will be very appropriate to have John Greig and Billy McNeil leading the teams out on Sunday. They, above all others, represent the heart and soul of each club. Fans of both clubs hold these 'legends' in mutual respect and it should ensure that the mood of the day will allow the minute's silence to be upheld in the dignity it absolutely deserves.
For ppl to disrespect the dead like that over football and religion is disgusting. These ppl have families that will never see them again and yous have the balls to put stuff like that on a video of remembrance yous need to a good look at yourselfs
RIP to the 66 who died this was such a tragic event. I'm a massive Celtic fan and feel ashamed when I see people leaving ignorant comments which are nothing other than disrespectful and a disgrace not only to themselves but to Celtic. Regardless of the old firm or any hatred shared between the two teams and their fans, 66 lives were lost and that's all that matters. God rest their souls x
@paulybhoy Dont be such an ignorant arse, there is no place for point scoring with what happened that day, act like a normal guy, then shout for your team when the whistle blows to start the match !
@1unitedireland wat team do u support utd or celtic if so utd ur a fukin smelly gloryhunter ur not fukin even english never mind from manchester. p.s i wud just love to pay my respects to 66 fabulas peole, rest in peace :(
@1unitedireland Saying that all Rangers fans are "racist, sectarianist monkeys" is just proving that you yourself are a racist sectarianist monkey. You're just proving that the people who died that year are much more decent than yourself.
u stupid prick airborne906,so u think insulting and patronising celtic fans is a right not to give a fuck about 66 innocent deaths.u fucking idiot.im irish and while not a big celtic fan still look out for their results but how can you say that shit. And if u say u couldnt give a fuck about this why the hell did u visit this page then.
And from and outside perspective, rangers need celttic and celtic need rangers, crap league without one of then and no derbies during the year for ye to enjoyMUPPET
I THINK THIS IS A VERY MOVING TRIBUTE AND FELT THE HAIRS ON THE BACK OF MY NECK STAND UP WITH THE EMOTION. I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE. MY COUSINS AND THEIR SONS ARE SUPPORTERS OF BOTH TEAMS AND WIND EACH OTHER UP A WEE BIT - BUT TASTEFULLY. I WAS 24 WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND AT A FAMILY GATHERING, BUT WHEN WE HEARD THE NEWS EVERYONE WAS STUNNED... A REAL 'WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOU HEARD MOMENT?'
god bless the poor souls who lost their lives that day , four young Men from Markinch died that day, respect to all , respect too , to the family of Jock Stein who have to suffer the moronic campaign against this great mans name .
40 years !! i remember being at home with my mum and waiting for my dad to come home . I was only 6 at the time but it is one of my earliest memories . my mum still recalls the wait that day . rip the 66
Firstly, thank you for taking the time friend and making a tribute video to our lost loved ones.We feel the heartache and suffering along with everyone affected.Secondly, can i please ask that relatives and loved ones who see these disgusting, vile and non human comments left by very lonely and woeful entities, disregard every word, these comments are usually kids or adults who have no life and need help by professional people. We will NEVER forget the memories of the people who died,RIP..god bless..
@MrStruth i have great respect for this incident but as i like to keep sectarianism out of it but why sing this to the tune of the a great irish martyr james connolly pic ur own tune for gods sake
As a season ticket holder at Celtic park i just want to say that every time we play Rangers at Ibrox i always say a prayer for those poor souls that lost thier lives that horrible day. They are in a place that is simply the best....Heaven ,May they rest in peace. YNWA
Rest In Peace, sad day, most of my mates are Gers fans n id hate to think how i'd feel if anything like this happened to them, some things are more important than football rivalry x (celtic fan)
@widlad7 WTF are you about ya fanny, all i said was it was a sad day, goint to a game of football and not coming home, wouldnt like that to happen to my mates who are Gers fans, chill out bigot
i am only 30 so it was way before my time as much as i love rangers getting beat id happly see motherwell relegated to the third division if it meant we could bring baack the 66 dead from that terrible night
rest in peace all absent friend from a gers fan in hamilton your all better people than any of the vile minded scum that think the ibrox disaster was funny
i was born in 1972 but ive learned about what happened that day, am a celtic supporter and it disgusts me when i hear so called celtic fans making sick jokes about what happened that day, there are decent celtic fans about and i am one of them that does show respect to the gers fans that died that day, rip.
R.I.P Brothers and Sisters G.B.N.F you will always be remembered as the loyal few who died doing what they loved :( watching their favourite team :( may you rest in peace :(
Audreybabe1969,Really sorry about your kin, must be very hard even 39 years on,the thoughts of my family are with you and all the families of our Brothers and sister.RIP,Never forget,WATP.
I was only 7 when this happened,I remember the women of the family, worried about father's sons and Brothers who made it home.RIP The ones that did'nt,lest we forget.
I agree with that you're saying here, but you also need to grow up and be done with the Ulster Loyal bit. What has that got to do with Rangers FC? This is something your club have been actively trying to distance themselves from for a few years now, but the MAJORITY, yes I said MAJORITY and not minority, refuse to let it go. And the Celtic support showed great respect when Rangers legends such as Baxter died so don't be forgetting that.
At the end of the day i couldnt give a fuck bout 66 huns dyin. Didnt knw any of them nor would i want 2 so i dont feel any shame in fuckin laughing at this. All u cunts mock Jock Stein so fuck u!!!!!
Celtic fan - RIP no one deserves to die like this and to all those celtic fans who dont show respect when its due, u bring shame to Celtic and to Scotland.
celtic fan, rip no one deserves this .. why do people say things about 66? celtic fans i mean? there people at the end of the day.. so give respect when its due..66rip66

These ppl have families that will never see them again and yous have the balls to put stuff like that on a video of remembrance yous need to a good look at yourselfs
karaashley10 1 year ago
@realman1888 How much more stupid can you get. You die among them, it's a different story mate.

@1unitedireland you are a pig, most of these people who died were not even over 20.
RANGERSHULL 1 year ago
@1unitedireland Saying that all Rangers fans are "racist, sectarianist monkeys" is just proving that you yourself are a racist sectarianist monkey. You're just proving that the people who died that year are much more decent than yourself.

Respects to all that have commented with decency on this tribute.
The vast majority of those that perished at Ibrox that dark day, were kids or young men, one victim was a female.
As the 40th anniversary approaches, the pain of what happened that day continues.
We shall not forget them.
